i think it's a good thing that the newest franchise have put a line in the sand

cameron has been their 'marquee' (albeit low key) player for a long time; as recently as midway thru this weird season they were saying that there was nothing to see, he was staying, etc. etc.

you can imagine that the change of his intentions threw them for a loop and completely disrupts their plans

hope they make jeerlong pay thru the nose

Fantastic news for the competition. And it wouldn't completely surprise me if Geelong decides that they've all of a sudden fallen out of love with Jeremy.

The AFL will compensate themselves very highly for Cameron, no doubt.
If Joe is worth Pick 7...

I was also thinking that if GWS get Ratugolea (who reportedly they want) they are less likely to want TMac.  And we could be waiting for GWS trades to do North (or other) trades.  Just guessing but we and other teams could be held up by GWS matching.

I don't care LH imo it is good someone is  prepared to stand up to the likes of Geelong.

With GWS matching it means the timeline is no longer in the FA period and falls into the Trade period ie until November 12, more than two weeks away.

It has the potential to hold up a range of other deals with GWS waiting to know what picks/players it gets back so it can decide list needs and whether to use those picks for other trades eg Preuss, TMac etc

Yep, I reckon this'll hold up trades for us.

Pretty good coin for a 24 goal forward. Don't think gws really want to pay that much for him but they have called the cats bluff after they committed to him. Awesome to see.

Why do Jeelong spell their name with a “G” is more the question...?

George, Giants, Gypsies, Gents ...

How do you pronounce this letter: G?

Gee as in Geelong.

Agree with the posters saying that it's likely to hold up our trades. Could work for or against us, too soon to tell so not much point in working ourselves into a state of angst.

I'm happy with Giants matching. It may cause a few delays but not only does it mean Geelong don't get a freebie, but it will bleed them of at least one and possibly two of their first round picks. Giants don't want to draft 7-8 kids in one hit so will try and pry a young talent like Parfitt out of the cats. If that fails, which I think it will, it will mean they have plenty of 1st and 2nd round picks and could be open to swapping one for a package deal we can offer. There have been a few permutations thrown around here, but a future 2nd, Preuss and Avb - or whatever is the latest mail is - could get us back into the first round.

How many “champion” forwards have GWS had

bloke who went to Footscray and won a flag

Patton

Cameron

wasnt there a Johnno Rourke - think he kicked a bag against the Pies.

We’ve had Neita and Michael Newton

He was a midfielder, who has subsequently been de-listed by the Dorks

No, he will now have to be traded, so no compo pick involved.

Yes i know. But GW$ will get out of it nicely.
the AFL don’t want their baby to become useless

Unless we get involved as a third party to help facilitate.

GWS want fair compensation for losing Cameron, they won’t be fussed if the entirety of that compensation comes from Geelong.

Hope the Giants bleed Geelong dry in any Cameron deal.

So glad they matched the offer  (was no doubt engineered by AFL HQ).

Surely you couldn’t be suggesting that the AFL, Gil’s AFL, would be involved with any shonky underhanded manipulation  of the rules, to favour one particular club?? ???

Good point.  We are well placed to facilitate as Alex McDonald is player manager for Cameron and TMac (for whom GWS have apparent interest) and Preuss is off to GWS.

Hypothetically, I could see a trade where we get a 1st round pick from Geelong and send a combo of Preuss/TMac/player x, to GWS and they get other pick(s) from Geelong.  Player x could be Vanders, as it puts him closer to his family and family business in NSW.  Pick 15 from geelong, anyone? In my hypothetical it would more likely be 18 but one can hope.

If gWS can't get their 'preferred' players from geelong (Parfitt and Ratugolea) Vanders and TMac would be similar position players.

Would TMac + Pruess be a better outcome than Hogan + Ratugolea (if the trade goes via WA / Clarke etc)

For GWS, I’d say yes

So many options.  Apparently Menegola has said he is happy to go back to Freo so Geelong can deal hm and Clarke to Freo but maybe they would want Freo's 1st round pick in return.   So many options...

Hopefully, the Cameron trade gets done quickly so it doesn't hold up everything else.

If they do their destination club status would take a huge hit.

Nice bit of click bait from Ralphy though...

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
