West Coast have been at the top for a while. Their fondness for the good life doesn't appear to impact their onfield performance.

13years ago! Speak to any knowledgeable Geelong supporter and they will tell you that it was the players, led by Tom Harley, who took control of their destination and the rest is history. Have been playing finals ever since. Players taking pay cuts to keep a core group together. That is building culture. They would not go anywhere near Crouch now. The Mark Thompson example is irrelevant to what Geelong are now

Lets face it, Adelaide have handled players and contracts poorly for years.

No conviction, which shouldn't dissuade the Cats, but the Crows will leverage it.

Crouch gets a strike and should move on ok. He'll be glad to get away from Adelaide.

No doubt the press and some supporters will turn this onto a storm in a teacup

C'mon Bobby, do you honestly think that was his first video?

Looking at some of your comments about Geelong, you are very naive.

What comments exactly? I have no idea if Jack Steven appeared in other "videos", and I would suspect neither would you. When I look at Geelong, I see a club that has built repeated finals appearances around a very good culture, astute recruiting (how many low draft picks have they had over the past 15 years?), and keeping a core group of great players together over a sustained period. If that makes me naive, guilty as charged your honour! When they offer Viney a substantial contract, we shall continue the discussion.

Well, firstly your comments about Geelong being clean skins. They aren't, and I doubt there's any club in the comp that are. Geelong are happy to take players with a bit of baggage if they think it will increase their chances of winning. That is Scott's influence. They had no hesitating taking on Steven last year, who was coming with his own battles, just like they had no hesitation taking Mitch Clark a few years back who was also known to have his "issues". Both of these appointments happened on Scott's watch.

With regards to the salary cuts, etc. Yes, players did take pay cuts from their officially lodged salaries, but I know for fact that they arranged players to be paid outside of the cap. Again, they wouldn't be the only ones.

If they offer Viney a contract, it won't be big dollars, but that won't be all he gets paid. You can bank on that.

And based on your comments around the Eagles, their issues weren't just 90s, they were in the 2005-2012 era (remember the names Cousins and Kerr, et al?).

SEN reporting he is going to the Saints.

Some discussion elsewhere that Geelong withdrew their interest after Cameron chose the Cats.

Sounds like the Saints were, at the very least, third in line for his services as we know Geelong were super keen on him until Cameron decided to go there, and Port had some interest (not as heavy as Geelong) as well.

So, he'll be a handy addition, but he was keen to be well paid to make the move from the Crows so I'm not sure how good that move is just yet.

I don't think it makes them a better side yet either.

I wonder if that puts them out of the Caldwell chase?

Might also put paid to any interest that the Saints had in Brown - you couldn't imagine they'd be able to fit both he and Crouch into their salary cap after bringing in Hill and Zak Jones last year.

Depends on how much Caldwell wants.  It won't be anything near Crouch, but at the same time, they certainly spent up big last year so you wouldn't expect them to have much more in the way of cap space with the addition of Crouch.

Very true, and it can only help us in our pursuit of other players.  With a few clubs already potentially spending some of their free cap space on players, it gives us more chance of landing the targets we were after (which didn't include Cameron and Crouch to begin with anyway).

St Kilda are fast becoming a very well managed Football club.. they are giving us windburn as they go past us. They identify what they need and they act, swiftly and with out fuss.

Good get from the Saints, they need a mid to help Steele on the inside.

King should improve too.
theyll be around 5-9th you’d reckon next year

I think they will be in real flag contention, if not next year, the year after, they have got pillars on every line they are young and will develop beautifully.

They have a very well balanced, list, great talls, good mediums, good smalls, really good contested footy players, pace and well coached.

I reckon the saints have rocks in their heads. Crouch is a slow midfielder and the saints have got plenty of midfielders. Wouldn't touch him witha wet rag.

Wouldn't go that far, but at the same time, they are apparently still in the race for Caldwell, so getting Crouch on big coin doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

He's a good fit for the Saints. Their midfield is very ordinary.

Agree - and he can take over from Carlisle in organising their end of season trips!

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
