POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle

Before anyone is sacked, a thorough independent review of football department is needed. Otherwise we’ll be here watching the whole thing on repeat in 3 years.

Im confident Bartlett and Pert won’t be sitting back.

Garry Lyon: "why aren't we a ruthless, unconditional club"...and why are we asking that question at round 16? We've had all season and all pre season after a season of disappointment to get there.

Spot on, Garry.

Really poor, didn't actually mind that first quarter taking into accountthe blustery conditions and rain. What happened against Sydney should have burned more and the second quarter was just dumb. The overhandballing killed me and the poor ball movement when we should have been up for the contest.

He's in his first season but Kossie for christ sake compose yourself and you learn to lower your ball drop, there was no need for him to kick that snap when he did. It's not the first time he's done this during the season.

We have a lot of dumb footballers who just don't do the basics

I called the club last week and took my membership of auto-renew. I told them if Goodwin goes I'll put it back on.

Someone mentioned that Pert gets reports like this. Call the club and let them know you won;t re-sign if Goodwin is there. Money talks.

Yep, I believe I will do this as well

One of the most astounding decisions he's ever made.  We could play better as a key forward than he can.  He didn't even look like it, and he isn't mobile enough to get up the ground to give us a target.

Forecast is tropical downpour. Bring in the big ungainly fella to run around the 50.

Club isn't live tweeting the presser like they normally do. As someone who works in corp affairs, we call this "risk mitigation".

Club is shielding Goodwin and protecting its digital footprint here. Minimising direct commentary on its branded posts.

Jungle drums.

You just disagree for the [censored] of it. Playing his 2nd game he shows speed, put on good pressure and almost snagged a couple despite [censored] poor team mates around you.

No I don't.

I disagree with you a lot because I, like many others on here, find most of what you post to either be stupid, wrong, hypocritical or unnecessarily inflammatory.

In this instance, Bedford showed the same amount of speed as Baker, Hunt and Pickett. Speed is nice but doesn't make a good footballer on its own (Sam Blease a perfect example). He didn't put on any more pressure than the aforementioned players.

He "almost snagged a couple despite poor teammates around him" - sounds like Pickett, who is someone you have a thread and ongoing posting vendetta against.

Bedford was pushed off the ball, didn't stick his tackles, didn't look composed with ball in hand, and had no overall impact on the game. Like I said before, he wasn't the only one like that, but there was nothing he showed tonight that would suggest he is currently ready for AFL football, nor that he's going to make it.

Sorry but these excuses don’t stack up. Everyone has had a hard season. Granted some more than others, but we’ve had a dream injury run until this week, and we are in the same short break cycle as everyone else. Sydney had the same break as us. Freo one extra day. Big deal.

I am sick of the excuses. Last year injuries. This year Covid. Covid has impacted everyone including 17 other clubs but I don’t see them using it as an excuse.

Sure - I get it. I'm hurting too. I'm not happy about how they fell away against two mediocre teams either.

But was I happy with where we sat, all things considered, before the last two matches? Absolutely.

Toxic damn club.  Roos changed up things for a while and Jackson was terrific.  Then Pert came along and it’s a total mess again.

i don’t know what to say about the list anymore, It’s the toxic culture combined with poor choice of coach.  The football department is a failure under Mahoney and Goodwin cannot harness talent.

I actually find this interesting.

I feel like, win or loss, the club has live tweeted press conferences for years now.

Why stop tonight?

Why the [censored] risk Jackson?? Put him in cotton wool for [censored] sake

Goodwin coaching to save himself it's the reason he swung the axe and brought in guys like Baker and Bedford. His press conference was all about deflection talking about the broader club. He must know he's on his last legs.

I think Goodwin has just put in on the players. That was the takeaway from the presser I got. I think he was annoyed they didn’t ‘come to play’.

4 years into a coaching career and barely holding onto a finals spot with a health list. that's where we were 2 weeks ago. and it's not like these losses are shocking and surprising. goodwin has form and so does this team.

I suppose we have different expectations then. Winning against poor teams does nothing for me 2 years on from a prelim.
If in 2018 after that mega prelim loss you were told in 2020 we would battle to make the 8 after finishing 17th the year prior, would you take it? Would Goodwin get an extension off the back of that? The answer is hell no.

We should be better.

Goodwin copping it a lot on here and as he should, but players cannot be let off teh hook. We need a list re invigoration, not a great time to refresh a list but we need to be pro active. Brayshaw, Tom Mcdonald, they are not winning us finals, but they will net a return. Do it.

More than disappointing again. So many steps backward.

Goody in his pre-game interview, “We are process team, not guided by emotions”, or something like that.

Well the process is flawed or even non-existent.

Emotion is a great motivator and can cause positive outcomes.

He must have been defending his no spray policy, or his inability to get the team hyped up.

Need a goal kicking and forwards coach.

The routine of young players in the system is lacking. Rivers attempt to kick his first goal was rushed, and he appeared stunned. Pickettt can't kick them. Preuss poor decision, out on the full and not trying to hit up. Crumbers can't get to the ball drop. Smalls trying to mark or making leads only to be beaten by taller players. They don't know how to be in the best areas to get the ball or to hold it in the forward area.

Why have we so many passengers, is the process not to include them all?

It is obvious they don't help each other be part of the game. We are a club of 6 to 8 players. The Goody's favourites, the rest don't seem in it.

Building relationships, what hogwash.

Too many players getting to the positions Goody wants and not playing a natural game. (The same game most have been playing since the under 10's). They can't do 'the take it' on within the process parameters.

Also like to thank the AFL. Three 4 day turn arounds and one off a 5 day break, plus the different game day grounds and training places.

Why didn't Bartlett give them another public spray after Sydney? Someone has to get some emotion out of them before the game.

Wow and shocked.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
