The two players are obviously done for the year.  The AFL has been so soft on clubs that this will continue to happen.

They would have gone back to the hub so could have spread the virus through the hub potentially derailing the entire season.  can you think of a better breeding ground for covid than a strip club?

The Tigers should be punished harshly for this. Ralph playing the sympathy card of a poor coach will get sacked is BS. if they get a fine there is their fault, how they deal with this fine could be in many ways

Sidebottom for 4 weeks just for getting drunk and getting in an uber, visiting a mate.  this is WAAAAYY worse

After being in the strip club, goodness knows what virus, or bacteria, or even creepy crawly insects they could have spread.

How is this considered 1 breach?

I count at least 4 already. 2 players both going to a strip club and a Kebab shop (and probably other public locations already).

Only the AFL would try to clump them as 1. Should be at least 50k for EACH of those and points for every breach over 3.

Of course it is such typical AFL spin it could only have emanated from Gil

Am I the only one low key hoping this goes much deeper then just the 2 of them on this one occasion to the point that the club gets kicked out of season 2020?

Anyone else find it interesting that the AFL has apparently been investigating for a week but was able to announce penalties only a few hours after media got wind of it.

1. Had they already thought of the penalty and only thought to apply it once it went public (in attempt to keep it quiet)

2. Announced penalty quickly after media caught wind to  avoid further digging/questions/scrutinisation from occurring.

Something tells me that a lot more breaches have occurred and have been investigated with sanctions only occurring if they are caught out by the public.

Timing of these sanctions is way to convenient.

See above.  All spin and hot air.

think the whole 100k still comes off soft cap for fd regardless of who pays

the players can pay the club the 75k but the cap is still reduced

?

It's still a soft cap.. just a "tax" consequence

For a club like Richmond etc it's $1 per member

Take it out of the salary cap.... now that could be a penalty

taking it out of the soft cap means $100k less which probably equates to 1 less person in fd (or salary cuts spread across fd)

salary cap cut would certainly have hurt more

Haha, I was joking. I think they're the most dangerous top 5 side, particularly as the Grand Final won't be played at Optus Stadium (ie West Coast).

I'm genuinely missing something with this. Why is everyone applauding Jack Reiwoldt for saying they are hurting?

His comments were pathetic. No accountability or responsibility.

Thank you, glad I was on the money because it honestly felt like I'd missed a crucial bit of info.

I'd be hoping a leader in that position would slam that behaviour and not play the good bloke card.

There's a guy at my work who in just the last month has had the misfortune of twice getting a sniffle so mild that normally you wouldn't even crack out the Vicks. Both times he's done the right thing, stayed home, got tested, waited for the result. I would guess he's about $800 out of pocket for doing the right thing and nobody has issued a press release saying what a great guy he is and how he's really hurting.

Just sayin'

And another Richmond breachriewoldt-reveals-tigers-were-worried-about-secret-covid19-breach

“I don’t know how this never got out and the AFL have done an amazing job of covering this up (because) at this stage we were wearing masks coming out of the airport, to the airport, to the bus.

“We weren’t allowed to come into contact with anyone, but next thing you know we were crammed like sardines into a lift".

Naturally the AFL says nothing to see, move on.  Of course they couldn't ban more Richmond players, could they?

Pity for all those who were caught/outed for a breach and had the book thrown at them.

Lots more covid skeletons in the AFL and Club closets, I suspect

More important than doing the right thing is being SEEN to do the right thing.

Nobody believes the AFL actually cares about this stuff for any other reason than impact on the bottom line.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
