Someone explain what Smith and Wagner did to get a game this week.

Wagner did his job last week and did his job this week. He's frustrating because he always makes a few head scratching mistakes but overall he's solid enough.

Smith kept Papley very quiet. Did a few bad things and has to get more involved in the game but when Smith was on him Papley had 1 behind which was a top from 55.

If you said Papley was held to 2 behinds you'd be pretty happy.

Of a 4 day break a few need a rest or a chop out

Out Oscar, Jones, Smith, ANB, Fritch who can stay out till he shows a desire to tackle

In Hibberd, Picket, Pruess (Freo play 2 ruckmen and give Max some relief) Lockhart and Hannan

There is justification to drop a hell of a lot of that team after that performance. Put all the names in a hat and draw out 6 to drop.

Start with a clean sheet of paper and a list of available players and start all over.

Defence: May, Lever, Rivers and Hibberd (if fit) are the only 4 I would pencil in as certainties.

Ruck: Max

Mid Field: Pettracca, Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney, Langdon, Tomilinson and Harmes (Had his best game of the year)

Forwards: Can think of no one  I would have as certainties.

FB: Lever - May -  Jetta

HBF: Rivers - Hibberd - Salem

? Langdon - Petracca - Tomlinson

HFF: Brayshaw - Brown - Harmes

F: Pickett - Weideman - Bedford

Fol: Gawn - Oliver - Viney

IC: ANB - Baker - Lockhart - Preuss

5 fresh sets of legs in that team, Jetta, Bedford, Baker, Lockhart and Preuss. Out - Melksham, Jones, OMac, Wagner and some other noddy.

Preuss can back up Max and both can spend time forward when required. I still do not understand how we can have one of the best 2 ruckmen in the comp and lose the clearances week after week.

After that game it all smacks of re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.

HF:  Pickett  Melksham    ANB
FF: Fritsch  Preuss  Hannan
Foll: Gawn   Viney   C. Wagner

Out: Smith, Jones,  Oscar,  Brown, Weideman (rested), Rivers (rested), Spargo (rested),
In: Hibberd, Vanders, Lockhart,  Preuss, Hannan, Pickett, C. Wagner

Clearly the midfield needs fresh legs. Harmes on ball or wing. Vanders in. C Wagner worth a try.

Backline goes back to the unit that mostly has been doing the job.

Forward line needs a shake up. Weid just looked spent today. Time for Preuss to have a go and can spell Max efficiently. If we don't have a good half forward lets stop playing with one and use the mid sized guys.

the 4 day break should give Goodwin the opportunity to make wholesale changes.

Get some legs into the team Pickett/Bedford/Hunt/Baker etc

Get Preuss back in this week.

Will Hibberd be right?

WTF if Smith plays again l won't be watching. O Mac, Jones see ya later & the rest l don't care. Absolutely disgusting effort. Turned it off at half time. Once again they let us down big time. Membership for next season hanging by a thread.

Smith cannot play. He just can't.

And it's probably time to give Bedford a run

Thought Wagner was ok.....80% efficiency compared to Viney 50%  & 4 turnovers.

Out: Tall defence and any players who pull up sore. In: Run and carry to counteract four-day break and new challenges to excite team. Trac to start in goal square, Brayshaw on his brother, Smith should hard tag on Fyfe.

That means Out: Rivers (rested because he's a kid and he doesn't have the background workload to back up well, even though he would normally play), O.Mac, Jones, Spargo, Wagner, Fritsch (something's not right with him). In Pickett, VDB, Hibberd, Hunt, Baker and Lockhart. If ANB and Brayshaw are sore then they should rest as well with Hannan or Bennell their replacements.

B: Lockhart May Salem

HB: Smith Lever Hibberd

C Langdon Brayshaw VDB

HF: ANB Brown Melky

F: Pickett Petracca Weid

Ru: Gawn Oliver Viney

Int: Baker, Harmes, Tomlinson, Hunt

Omac - NEVER TO PULL ON AN MFC JERSEY AGAIN.

Wagner - Should never have been back in the team.

Jones - Retire NOW.

Smith wasn't too bad if you watched closely.

The problems came from the entry into forward fifty and lack of forward pressure.

Tackling was WAP from the get go.

Lots of falling over, lots of bad disposal.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best.
