Showing the value of the pick 6 deal we did for him. Reads the play as good as WCE McGovern.

Don't think he'll get the nod over Andrews, though.

doesn't need to moonie, there are 6 backs in aa team plus 1 more on interchange

May is almost 29.   Pray to the high heavens we get a few more great seasons out of him yet.

Would be great if he was a few years younger, but I reckon his type can play on well into their 30s. I think we have at least 3 more good years coming from him.

Anyway, after being introduced as “All Australian full back Steven May” on the Sunday Footy Show, he has now been included in SEN’s rolling AA side at CHB. Playing his best game for the season in a prime time match everyone was watching has done his chances a world of good. Like I said earlier in the thread, the media hype plays a huge role in the selection of this team. He deserves to be there in any case.

Agree with that for sure, think he can be a beast until hes 32-33.

I'm thinking he has got a light sniff of Finals this year and i think in the run home whoever has the misfortune to play on him will know it...

Think Tassie played every position possible for a man his size

Ruck all the key positions and back and foward pockets

A real legend and hero of mine

I’m glad someone in the media has FINALLY brought his name up, albeit an ex MFC player. The AA team is meant to be based on performance but media hype plays a huge role in it too. People are still talking about Max Gawn being in the mix despite him missing 3 games and playing two average games before that. Love Max but he shouldn’t be in discussions any more. Petracca is locked in and May should be the other Melbourne player in discussions. Perhaps Oliver if he finishes strongly.

No other ruckman has played better

I wish I was a still a naive, optimistic kid. Unfortunately I’m not.

For instance, I had a $70 fare with Ansett to fly from Sydney to Melbourne to watch the Granny in Sept 2000. It was a 7.00am flight - not flexi, no changes. My mates and I had a big night. I got to bed at 5.30am to have 25 mins sleep. Seemed responsible at the time. Woke up at 7.10am. Desperately rang Ansett almost in tears, in fact I think I was in tears. The dude said if I get to the airport by 7.40am, he’d put me on the already full 8.00am flight (which he did). Turned up by myself in my pyjamas. And they let me on. Made the game.

It was ultimately a schizen game, and I hated Essendon forever after it, but I think this shows my commitment to this club.

I’ve literally had a thousand experiences like this ever since. In short, I have many humiliating, yet funny, stories about supporting this very unsuccessful club. I suspect they’re beyond the sensibilities and interests of most Demonlanders but they are the real deal.

Anyway - I’ve followed this club with a passionate focus and dedication for decades. I know the club, I know it’s history.

And, in this context, Steven May is the real deal. I reckon he’s the best we’ve had. He’s a leader. And an absolute gun.

In the meantime, stay classy Demonlanders.

Any footy lovers would have known how powerful a defender May was at the Suns

When we picked him up everyone was very excited for what he could bring to our club

By his own admission he had a horrid last year mostly due to his own poor preparation (and to be fair, moving to a new city and having your missus leave you soon after would poorly effect everyone)

But this year he has shown us all just how great a player he is

He might me my favourite player now

AA for sure.

Had a few scotches last night.

Still reckon May is one of the best we’ve had though.

I heard him interviewed after the game

He is the Captain of the Backline, no doubt about it

Speaks so well

title change

Jesus I was hard on him last year and rightly so.

But this year he's been one of the most consistent player so far.

He is one hell of a footballer. Tough, takes no [censored] and a big presence. I like Gawny, but I would easily have this bloke as our captain.

What brand are we drinking tonight Sir?

I thought Steven May played a great game tonight and thoroughly deserved winning the Sony Bravia TV for BOG (Best On Ground) from Richo on Channel 7.

He’d be a fabulous captain , but I’d like him as he is and not distracted by the captaincy .

McAllister Reserve

Blended Scotch

Shots of course

That game should’ve cemented his spot

Doesn’t seem that there is much fan fare for May getting AA...

massive result considering making finals is still a long shot.

Trac has also cemented his spot.

2 x AA selections and we still might not make the finals? gawn and oliver not far off. A good coach would have had us at top 4...

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
