Bloody Butler is the difference in this game. St Kilda got so lucky with him. He’s won them 3-4 games this year.

Butler was rubbished here as a very average VFL player. Eat their words now.  He won it for the Saints again.

Recruit of the Year so far

Just a reminder to those on here who think we're the only club to let good players go (if you still subscribe to that theory).

Richmond let Butler go and kept Rioli, who's struggling to get a game.

Good chance we will be 9th on the ladder if we beat the Kangas  (with a game in hand).

The game in hand thing is starting to become less important. With Carlton, Hawthorn, Fremantle and West Coast having a bye this weekend, we no longer have a game in hand over any of them.

In terms of ladder position, the North game is critical. Will be our 5th win and that would help us level out with GC, Essendon and the Dogs (assuming Essendon loses to GWS, then GC beats Essendon and the Dogs lose to Brisbane).

If that all happens, our subsequent fortnight becomes huge for our season if we have any desire to play finals: Collingwood and the Dogs will be thereabouts in that lower half of the top 8.

Lose to North and none of this really matters of course.

Richmond have a lot of good small/medium types who kick goals. Aside from Rioli there’s Higgins, Short, Bolton, Castagna and Baker. Cant keep them all and a tough decision to chose who to move on. Rioli based on previous form is a keeper who’s having an ordinary season so far. Butler would have been a huge pickup for us after delisting Garlett and JKH.

I don't disagree.

Suggesting Richmond stuffed up has a significant element of hindsight to it.

The point I'm making is that all clubs make "tough decisions" and sometimes the players they let go end up doing better elsewhere. It's not just us.

Butler is an interesting one. Can’t seem to kick a set shot to save himself, but in general play he is looking as dangerous as any small forward in the league right now.

God this is weird.  Id be surprised if Chol wasnt angry about it.  If anyone stuck their finger in my bum they'd be knocked out cold on the spot.  And I didnt even mentioned the constant penis grabbing.

Weird, and he moved away from Broad in the song because he went for a grab also.

And they did it in front of all the cameras.  Rocket scientists they are not.

Papley and Butler both turning it on in the same evening really puts a spotlight on what we're missing up forward. It's something missing from the games of Hannan, Fritsch and our other mid-sized forwards.

On the one hand we can realistically hope to get some of that mysterious occult power from Pickett as well as the unknowable future of Jackson, but we really need to bring a bit of spontaneous hunting into the game of the mid-sizers.

Clearly not consented to or invited.

Clearly not appreciated.

Zero chance of him or the club taking any action against a senior double-premiership player.

Was just on the AFL site and the video of the Richmond celebration song is still there several hours after the initial report.

Butler is a prime example of why you don’t shoot down posters for raising a delisted or out of favour player as a potential recruit. There are good players there who can offer something.

Not that he fills a need for us, but Greenwood for Gold Coast is recruit of the year for me. For next to nothing, he adds a much needed big body around the ball for a young team. He’d go close to being Adelaides best player this year,

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
