Like watching 2018.

All started with the inside 50 pressure tackling.

The midfield on fire led by terriffic trac and a leaders game in max.

 Oliver hitting targets all day

The frwd line was working with some awesome ball movement into it.

May and lever finally working really well together.

Add some great effort from some newcomers and this is the stuff we frustrated supporters believed we could do but could not understand why we dont.

Some great footage of a worried clarko all day was good to see.

Go dees.

Well said.

Cracking game.  So enjoyable.  Loving Langdon.  Everyone obviously.  That was an absolute clinic at times.

Dominated them.

Just going to say that Viney was immense, especially in the first half when the game was to be won. And his kicking into f50 has become exceptional.

Genuine excitement all over the ground, especially with new recruits Bennell, Langdon, Kozzie and Jackson

Two In the running for All Australian in Gawn and Petracca who has arrived and playing with supreme confidence.

Even Omac looks solid, which leaves May and lever to perform their accustom roles.

Fritsch and Weed are still young and have the attributes to successfully become reliable targets for us.

Its honestly mystifying that it took until last week for the coaches to play Weideman. Our structure looks so much better with him crashing packs and clunking marks. Great to see him get on the end of a few goals. Probably should've finished with five.

Also....Luke Jackson: 14 touches, three marks (two contested), three tackles and a goal in just his second game. Early days, but Action Jackson looks super impressive.

So glad I claimed that name....

Great win, strangled them and they could never get going.

Loved Weideman's play on the wing, got a hospital handball from a teammate and made the ball his goal while Stratton went for the cheap hit. Took a lot of guts.

And didn't vanders give it to Stratton afterwards. We don't have too many players that do that.

@picket fence   Still want Brown and Joel Smith in the team ahead of LJ?  :)

Just busting your balls, enjoy the win

Granted!

How good is it to be able to sit, watch the entire game without extended periods of gut-wrencing mistakes, and win 4 quarters!?!?

The start of the 3rd quarter showed our worst, but we rallied and picked it up again.

A lot of positives, especially from some young guns.

Gawn, Trac, Langdon, Weid... thanks for giving me a positive Monday.

And it's amazing how good our game plan looks when we hit our targets.

Jackson is almost 200cm and is 18yo. You wouldn’t know it! He is such a smooth mover and has very good awareness and decision making.
will be a beauty

When he kicked that goal, I wondered what his parents must be thinking. The look on the kid's face!

(I'm of that vintage)

Petracca is 6th in the league in disposals per game.   His 24.5 average would be closer to 30 touches a game in a normal season without shortened quarters.

Oh by the way, Oliver is 3rd.

What a combo these two are!

To everyone - enjoy it.  While it's only a win during a long season, smashing the Hawks by 7 goals is something you can't ignore.  They have embarrassed us so many times over the last decade and now it's our time to start paying them back.

Trac was sublime.

Gawny stood up as captain and dominated all day.

Viney and Oliver were awesome in the engine room

Jackson was the right pick and was terrific.

Our backline made them look ordinary, and they have been building to this for weeks now.

Everything is starting to come together and it is exciting to watch.

Go Dees!

AND CLAYTON OLIVER back to AA Form

Who are the other 4 above him out of interest? Can’t imagine any of them are bossing games like Trac is at the moment.

That was the most enjoyable two hours of football I can recall since we decimated Adelaide in Alice Springs a couple of years back.

I can’t recall too many periods in the past 20 years where we have had a genuinely elite player. On current form, we have two. I know other teams have good players, but I think Gawn and Petracca measure up to any other player out there at present.

Remember when everyone didn’t want to draft Jackson? Me too. I didn’t want him. Ruckman take 5 years apparently. I’ve seen enough after two games. Wowee.

It might amount to nothing, but it’s so nice to see that kind of entertainment again on a Sunday afternoon. Especially in the middle of a pandemic. Thank you Melbourne.

Best game since 2018.

Tracc and Gawn were immense.

Ive seen a few mention it, but I reckon Langdon deserves a heap of praise. Last week was good, this week we saw exactly why we went after him. Runs and Runs and runs and hit his targets today.

also thought Clarry improved as the game went on. Getting better at picking when to handball and when to kick. Still has to be a focus though.

Assume Neale is one and he has been the best player in the comp this year by a distance.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
