We need balance in our forwardline. I wouldn't be going for Fogarty. We need ground level pressure and speed. He offers neither. If you're going to play Fritsch as the third tall, we needs speedy smalls to compliment the three talls.

Nah. I reckon he's re-signed.

Ah, turns out it's an extremely misleading headline.

While i am happy Jack stays (although he is a frustrating player), it is a little bit boring.

Straight swap for Merett is much more exciting.

If Jack Viney goes it will probably hurt our Membership Numbers. He is a key player, whose number is on many supporters backs!

From an article on Foxfooty:

VINEY’S FUTURE ON A KNIFE-EDGE

Carlton and Geelong both believe Jack Viney is up for grabs for the right price.

There is conjecture about how much Melbourne actually wants to keep its former captain, although Simon Goodwin is a huge fan of the 26-year-old.

Would love to be a fly on the wall when Goodwin and the List Management Team meet!

Goodwin being a fan of Viney was obvious when he made the 'captain's call' to make Viney co-capt blindsiding our existing captain in the process.  A decision the players over turned just 3 years later.

Goodwin may be too emotionally invested in Jack to make a 'best for the club' type decision.

Have heard Viney is likely to stay, but other players such as TMac may be on the move.

TMac unhappy with the way the club has handled his body the past few years, both from injury management and changing body shape to add bulk which caused further issues.

I'll pack his bags for him. Ridiculously overrated.

4 disposals to half time..

I've said it all along, he is a seriously limited, selfish footballer. Tries time and time again to break tackle after tackle, refuses to dish it of to first option. He would be a magnificent rugby player, but he is not a footballer. Can go to  Geelong or wherever and we will just take a first round pick and hopefully use it on a FOOTBALLER.

If its between Viney and Brayshaw id Trade Viney, has more value but, has probably peaked as a player and our midfield performs better without him imo.

Actually dont worry abut it LH.

I remember the promotion and it doesn't really matter.

Player lead or Goowin lead its not a big issue.

If i recall correctly you said, in response to my concerns that his close relationships with players could potentially cloud Goody's judgment, that you didn't think that is likely.

It’s not a matter of trading for him though is it? He is a Restricted Free Agent. We can match whatever Geelong offers him and then get picks as compensation, which is a real lottery, so don’t expect a first rounder. We will get a 2nd rounder and be bent over. That’s how I understand the RFA, but happy to be corrected. Geelong won’t be giving us anything in return.

If we don’t match we get compo. Could be a start of the second round pick. Most likely is after our second rounder.

If we do match we either keep him or trade him to Geelong. In which case we can ask for a deal involving one of their 3 first round picks. Currently 11, 15 and 16.

Of course the risk there is that they’d probably be a lot less interested if they had to trade.

Comprimised draft but if Geelong could get him and still have those 3 picks they could be in good future shape. Kinda think they are planning on not using, 11, 15 and 16.

those that are saying that Brayshaw is an adequate replacement for Viney, do we know anything on the seriousness of his foot injury? Are we confident he is playing Rd 1? I’m sceptical about blokes with foot injuries.

Brayshaw said on the Captains run that there is a ligament in his foot that isn’t working creating issues for his other ligaments.  He also said he would be back ready for the 1st day of pre-season.

On Viney,

You just can’t replace heart and soul players.  I don’t think anyone  thinks for a second he isn’t busting his guts every time he runs out.

It’s very frustrating watching him get caught holding the ball after trying to break tackles.  On reflection I wonder if he is going through a transition and trying to get the balance right.  After the “red mist” bang it on the boot was the in vogue game style, I think Viney is looking to not do that and is finding his feet with the don’t waste the ball game plan.

Clarry seems to be using his feet more to explode out of contests to use the ball better, I think we need to give Viney the chance to find the balance of when to bang it forward and when to hold the ball for better options.

Id like to see the structure allow someone to be moving to offer Viney some handball options when he’s likely to be tackled.

Still a very valuable player in my opinion, we shouldn’t be letting him go anywhere.

I think they pick between Viney and Brad Crouch as free agents to replace Tim Kelly. Then use the picks start finding some tall prospects.

Of course Daniher and Cameron will have a street in Torquay with their names on it if they wish to head down the highway

Geelong are a genuine destination Club nowdays. Geelong  offers a good lifestyle living in those Coastal towns and playing to adoring fans. I think it is a matter of how much that lifestyle appeals to the young Viney family. i will respect any decision he makes.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
