Oliver and Tomlinson with 50 percent efficiency not worthy in my opinion.

but our forwards were terrible and our defenders were merely okay

it was a weird old game

1. Pickett (Because I enjoy watching him)

6 Hibberd - brilliant first half, although a couple of late errors with dispsoals. But great comeback game and proof that this is the year to keep swinging changes.

5 Gawn - tried his darndest and how good was his scoop up down back in 2nd term I think.

4 Viney - attacked the game full on and was penetrating with his run and kicking.

3 Petracca - dangerous all game, but forced to go forward when T.Mac got injured.

2 Oliver - worked hard, but couldn't get free and do any damage.

1 Hannan - a couple of nice grabs, couple of great pressure tackles. Nice to see him back.

6. Viney

5. Harmes

4.Gawn

3. Trac

1. Brayshaw

I'm very surprised May isn't getting any votes.

I thought he was excellent. Good spoiling and positioning and hardly beaten in a contest. Was part of a defence that kept Geelong to 12 scoring shots from 38 entries. Usually when we play Geelong they have a high inside 50 efficiency but we kept them to a score we really should have been able to beat.

We made some defensive mistakes that led to goals which were very costly but in the main we defended our back 50 pretty well.

When you look at the number of times Blicavs got back and pressured and won the one-on-one battles, then you may realise that May's game was fairly ordinary again. Big Sav and TomaHawk were both dangerous all game. Hibberd and Smith were our best defenders, strange as it may seem.

I’m still struggling to give votes. I feel like there was plenty of poor efforts and disappointing day once again. Gawn, Viney, Hibberd, Brayshaw and May were okay.

Very hard to give votes such an even contribution.

6 - VINEY

5 - MAY

4 - HIBBERD

3 - SMITH

2 - BRAYSHAW

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

It was only a preseason match but the new look Demons spearheaded by new coach Steven King looked impressive as they put on a clinic against perennial cellar-dwellers North Melbourne as they cruised to an 80 point victory at Casey Fields.
