Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

RJAY, what does that pressure look like? Angry stern looks from the board? A conversation about 'you're under pressure mate?' You don't think they all fire trucking know it?

Sorry @rjay its not about you per se (the next bit)

The hilarious thing about these ' he's under pressure' comments is the fact that you walk into a job knowing that if you don't perform you're out. You're under pressure from day dot.. it never just appears. The nuance is looking at the bigger picture than W/L/D, and checking your own urgency (as a member of the board/fd or other) with all available data. Now the issue is supporters don't have all the available data.

@layzie, this is why I believe they're on the right track

We typically want linear improvement. If it doesnt happen, then it's received as a problem. I posted on another thread about 2 hours ago, about 2019 being a write off from injury/preseason perspective) and the fact that there was never any expectation because of that factor to be able to perform optimally. Why supporters expect optimal performance in that context doesn't surprise me, because they don't have data.

The other thing as to why Goodwin wont be under pressure due merely to losses (and not blow outs, just losses) is beacause of the demographic of the athletes at the club, particularly the midfield.

2019 was a clusterfork due to injury

2020 is a clusterfork due to Covid and the fact that we have so so so so so so so many players who have not played together (people forget this is so incredibly important...just look at Richmond, Collingwood and WCE)

But we lump it altogether and don't pick apart the nuance.

Goodwin happens to be at the helm during some unprecedented times (2019 due to injury/rehab) 2020 due to covid with really really young humans  who have played fire truck all together.

I get that pleases very few of you... because of the yearning, the absolute yearning to see success and a constant upward trajectory.

Anyway... that's why ive contributed some coin.

Good One.

Of course they would. But I doubt Bartlett would have said anything about onfield performance other than bland comments that would have added nothing. Hence, Whately's approach of asking him questions to which Bartlett could give interesting answers.

No it definitely makes sense, and does put things in perspective. There is a lot of lumping together and Covid shouldn't amplify the things that happened in the past when current staff were not here. I just hope we can afford the time they need to get it right. I've donated as well, can only hope.

The MFC  has always been a huge part of my life.  I've been lucky enough to enjoy a few premierships along the way, but #13 will bring more joy than all the others combined.  I thought the merger in '96 would to kill off my dreams, but against the odds, we survived that to fight another day.  I'll continue to support them in every way I can, for as long as I can, but time is running out.  C'mon Dees .........  its time for a return on my financial and emotional investments.

This really shouldn't be about the people at the club or a return on investment.

We all tune in every year to watch a new season, i admit my passion for the game isn't as strong as when i was kid. To be fair i think that's more because the game has gone in a direction i find less appealing. However, i won't turn my back on this club til my last day or it's.

Purchased myself a shirt because at least it's something material in return for the money. Who knows, i might be wearing it to a grand final one day.

Cheers to all who donated and to those who couldn't. Let's hope we all survive.

Does donating give you unlimited wishes SW????????????

Would be a miracle if it were to happen given this is what we have heard they are working on for the last numerous seasons.

No. I just want to know they are actually learning from past mistakes

Kicking goals seems to be down the wish list.
It should be number 1

Yes i knew you were joking

But 2 years is a long time for a “learning to sink in”

When i was taught something at my work it had to sink in immediately...

I was convinced by Glen Bartlett's comments on the Demonland Podcast to buy the Proud to Belong Jersey. It's hard to rub a couple of dollars together at the moment, but I was persuaded despite feeling dreadful about the Club after the Geelong loss.

Unfortunately, it seems most if not all coaches seem to susbcribe to the idea that stopping the other side from kicking goals is number 1. I wish you were right. Football would be in a much better state if you were.

It is interesting to note that in soccer, your goal (meaning where the team scores, not the team's aim) is the one you defend; in AFL, your goal is the one you attack. It would be a shame if AFL ever changed so a team's "goal" becomes the defensive one.

I have thought the same things at times

A Coach will break the cycle soon and the AFL Media will Crown him a Genius

Earlier in this thread the Donations were reported as $280k .

Not having much to do I had a look at the balance today and it shows: $214k.  proud-to-belong,-proud-to-give/

It seems a cumulative total so am a bit confused as to how it could have gone backwards.  Can't imagine anyone would take back a donation so maybe one of the figures is incorrect/typo.

That might be cash donations only, not including jumper purchases?

It is very confusing on the MFC site.

If you go to the "give" icon at the top of the page it shows a figure of $352470, which is different from the figure in the actual donation page.   Still, can't expect much when the AFL run the web-sites!

The donation page is purely for cash donations which is currently showing $214,244. The figure of $357,207 shown at the top of the page is the total amount in cash donations and guernsey/armchair membership sales (all part of the donation drive). Essentially there’s three ways to donate, if you add the three up, it equals the amount of $357,207.

Ended up buying a Jumper as well at the draft experience. Figured I get nerdy enough about it during the off season so might get some good insights into how it all works and what players we rate. Assuming I don't get told not to divulge any pertinent information I will try and give a run down of the night.

I just bought of the limited edition Fuchsia New Era hat from the club website.

Buying merchandise from the club directly also helps a lot.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
