Laughable.

And he was let go for much the same reason that Howe and Watts were let go.

And two additional reasons.

One, he wanted too much coin.

Two (and related to the first reason), as well as he can play in any given match there always the risk he will cost his team a game because of the combination of his poor kicking and poor decision making. And that is just as likely to be in a final, perhaps more so given pressure exacerbates poor technique and poor decision making.

Frost ball will get you at some stage.

I think they'll try and go with a big body midfield to dominate Geelong in that area, so AVB plays for me. i wouldn't be surprised if Brown comes in for someone though. we are really lacking a target with TMAC out of form, not sure who would go out.

Think you answered your own question to be honest.

Who are you playing as a tall forward?

Preuss and the last resort - Weideman. The two are totally rotational at fairly rapid intervals. What I really want is the smalls creating havoc (not chaos) in the fwd line, with Hunt, Fritsch, the taller Melksham and Hannan providing a three-to-four-pronged lead machine towards midfielders and flankers.

Old-time footy and running, running, running; I would doubt that the Catty Puts could keep up with, abreast of and opponent-focussed after quarter time. Harmes to tag out his preferences and join as a utility into the midfield distributions and hits as our possession count soars, exponentially.  It would also be critical to have rovers handy, prepared to enter and rapidly leave the play.  Without OMac, the backline looks good.

It won't be Preuss. He's still on the injury list. And I don't think he's a forward option, anyway.

We should've kept Frost. End of story.

The reason we let him go is because he was going to play at Casey at the expense of May and Lever being in the side- was the accepted consensus. That's a poor reason as he's not far off May and every bit as good as Lever as an AFL footballer.

I'm surprised his shut down job on Ben Brown in round 23 last year didn't trigger the minds of the MFC brains trust that he should have been a priority signing.

He's been outstanding for Hawthorn in their 3 games. Probably because that mob has a far better coach and a far better list management.

Or he was out of contract, we'd allocated enough money to our defensive unit already, and our offer to him wasn't satisfactory.

Frost wouldve absolutely been given an offer and re-signed, if we'd drafted Ben King I'm guessing. Assuming he didn't just want to go to a more professional club anyway.

Yes, he confirmed Smith would remain in the backline. Said they like his versatility, athleticism and closing speed.

Asked about him flying  for balls he should have stayed down on, mahoney said he got a bit too excited.

Maybe they should give him a mogadon right before the cat's game.

Or if the music he listening to is bit too amped make him listen to Brian Eno's classic album Ambient 1/Music for airports instead

Cue the scene in The Club with Geoff Hayward staring at the seagull, mid-game.

Brown kicked 2.3 and had 17 touches. He shut himself down with his inaccuracy and poor disposal (41% DE).

Judging from Goody's presser today, would say Jones won't be selected and Bennell no guarantee to be selected.

Also, apparently our forward line make up is a "week to week" proposition. Geez would hate to try and get some 'connection' and consistency in the part of the ground that's our biggest weakness....

Is Bennell injured? He has had a week off since Carlton.

Intraclub don't forget.

Not injured, they're just still managing him up to full match fitness and see him as a long term player so not rushing it and 'managing expectations'. Nothing to worry about if he doesn't end up playing IMO.

What frustrates me about this "forward connection" is that the connection between mids/half forwards to forwards should be forward leads in to space, the mid hits the target.  If the ball hits the deck, smaller forwards get the crumbs.

It has been like that since footy was invented.  Richmond have won 2 premierships in the last 3 years by not overcomplicating things.

Maybe Bennell out, Brown in?  I'd live with that.

Goody seems obsessed with the big forward just 'bringing the ball to ground' it seems, doesn't seem to care much for actual marks or leads. Pretty frustrating for us, imagine what it's like for our key forwards.

Could be Bennell out Brown in for sure if they do decide to manage him.

ha, no - just the frost stuff

i understand some love him but i have always thought he was massively overrated and we way overpaid for him (second round pick)

Why would Bennell need a week of after he was selected in the Essendive game which didn't eventuate?? What player management strategy is this?? Unless he is injured should surely play!

Because they're still working him up to full match fitness and because they're wanting longevity so don't want to push him too hard too early. It's not a matter of 'injured or not injured', there's more to it than that.

Yes unreasonably obsessed with bringing it to ground. Let the forwards go for marks and make sure the smalls crumb. Pretty basic stuff.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
