Selection panel has lost the plot.

If he’s not injured, Lockhart should be in. Bombers have lots of quick small forwards. We need smalls to lockdown in the backline.

Weid should be in for Jackson. Our tall forwards are uncompetitive. Jackson isn’t ready for AFL level yet. He needs time to develop his body and build confidence. Weid offers more at present. If he’s dominating at the level below and kicking bags off 5 goals, he needs to come in.

The selection panel need to pick the best team to win, not give games to kids and name players who haven’t earned it and aren’t producing. Poor culture still remains unfortunately.

Bombers by 5 goals.

They are being gutsy with selection, I'll give them that.

Let's assume Jackson plays as the second ruck/tall forward again this week.  We know Kozzy is in the side as well, so who survives from that bench?  I'd love Vanders and Hannan to get a look in but you feel as though they might give both another week, meaning Smith and ANB probably survive.

I'm very surprised that they haven't given either Weid or Mitch Brown a run, but the proof will be in the pudding.  I'm not ready to knock selection just yet.

Holding off on the conditions I reckon.

At this stage I think Kozzy and Hibberd for Jones/ANB and Smith. But if it's looking like a wet slog then Hannan and vB come in for Jackson and Bennell.

Vandenberg and Pickett in Jones and Neal-Bullen out looks like I got it right.

Happy to have Pickett and vdB running hard into this mob. We still owe them for Snake and Greeny IMV.

Feel for Weid. Felt strongly he should be picked this week and be given a run of a few games.

Geez no Weid..

I would say he still needs to work on the little things. Just from watching Carlton's highlights of the practice game, there was an instance where he got outmarked and didn't actively man the mark and his opponent was able to quickly play on. He is not a good enough player to be missing basics like this.

Wasn't aware of this..

If so then yes it's those little things that do count in a big way.

To bring Lockhart in probably means Nev Jetta is out. I also don't see Hibberd in as Riviers has earned his place for a few rounds  based on his debut last week and I think Smith needs some time to get into his groove. I'd like to see our current backline settled so that they can build cohesion.

I'm guessing either ANB or Jackson will make way for Pickett and or one of Hannan or AVB.

I’d go

b: Jetta may salem

hb: hibbo lever rivers

c : Langdon Oliver Tomlinson

hf: melks  tmac Hannan

ff: Pickett fritz Hunt

fol: Gawn Viney trac

inter: Bennell avb Harmes brayshaw

Jones is my favourite player but can’t be gifted spots. Smith and Jackson not just yet. Anb just won’t cut it.

would have Lockhart over hibbo and Bedford over Bennell though

He kicked 5 goals in 15 a side game, I wouldn’t be reading to much into it.
The ins are brilliant and Lockhart is a fringe player.

That's a pretty fair comment, chook.  I think Nev goes to Tippa and then the rest go to whoever else is down there.

I wouldn't mind giving Smith first crack at Stringer when he is forward.  Has the height, strength and speed to go with him... the only issue for me is Stringer being a little too 'smart' for him, but otherwise I think he's actually a good matchup on paper.

I could see a Jackson making way for a small because of the predicted rain

eg Kozzy, AVB, Hannan

for Jones, ANB, Jackson

I think Vanders is a lock to come in with the conditions

I’d bring Lockhart in and send Smith out. There’s more smalls to lock down on and Smith is incapable of playing defense.

Dropping ANB would send the wrong message to the playing group. He’s no superstar, but his game last week was decent enough to earn him another match ahead of Smith, Jackson, Jones, TMac, Melksham. We need to pick players who are performing, not name players and high draft picks not performing.

At this point, playing Jackson is like playing a man down. He’s got long term potential, but he’s clearly not ready yet.

I thought we’d moved past this as a club already. Clearly there’s still culture issues to work through.

Yeah, but he also kicked 5 goals and not sure it's fair to judge his performance based on Carlton's highlights video.

I'm a big Jacko fan, but he should not be playing ahead of Weid this week.

Poor selections. We should be playing youngsters like Lockhart and Sparrow in this side as there is enough experience in it. I would say 1 change only with Pickett in and god knows who out.

I'll clarify by saying I meant 'footy smarts'.  The bloke knows his way around a footy field and that's about it.

I know he's not going to single-handedly resolve our forwardline issues, but seriously, did the Weid back over Goodwin's dog or something?

Would it?

Picking the side is tough - you want players in form, but you also want players who can perform to the highest level.  On their day, Jones and Melksham (I won't include the talls as they play different roles) are better players than ANB and give us far more around the ground.  Nibbler might have kicked a few but he didn't do much else outside that, plus he was a late inclusion for Kozzie so he was out of the side really anyway.

You pick a side that you think will win you the game.  You don't always get it right, but I don't think it comes down to 'culture'.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
