  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You might wanna send that pic to the European Society of Virology’s Dr. Giorgio Palu.

He is the one who said it, not me. And hes on the frontline in italy.

No, I send it to you, because you’re the one with the agenda.

The Italian Govt was “lazy” (to use Palu’s own description) and were slow to act. The virus may have originated in China, but it’s the world’s problem now.

The blame game solves nothing and if you’ve been following the real news (as opposed to right wing publications), you might have noticed that Chinese medico’s from the Wuhan epicenter are there advising and assisting in Italy... but of course it doesn’t suit your agenda to make mention of that.

Nope - 5G will be the 'go-to' technology.

A bit expensive now but it won't matter if one's employer pays the cost.  Will be much cheaper to the employer than providing full scale office facilities.

There will be a tipping point where wireless technology actually starts to fry your DNA.  4G 30 years?  5G 2 years?  6G 15 minutes?

Soon, it will be safer to smoke 2 packs a day.

One of the main reasons is that if 4 million school kids are sent home it will have a devastating effect on the amount of people available to work in crucially needed jobs right now, including health professionals.

In the UK, as in other countries where they've been closed, school is still provided for children of key workers such as health professionals.

If the kids don't go to school, we have two options, close our business (so 6 people lose their livelihood, including ourselves), or have their 70 year old grandparents look after them.

This is just us, but what about nurses? doctors? people working in food production? pharmaceuticals?

I'm in France, where we're already there. Here:

- school is still on for children of key workers

- anyone laid off through forced closures has their salary (or most of it) paid by the govt

- same for anyone who has to stay home to look after children

- small businesses have access to a range of emergency funding, and most costs and charges (e.g. rent) have been either cancelled or deferred.

Except it's been noted that the list is that extensive that some schools won't have a very different number of students attending.

Small thing...

like many have had lots of flights cancelled on me recently and have been offered refunds etc but I had an internal flight cancelled in Greece. Because it was a budget booking I can only get a credit voucher to use on another flight. No refund option like all the other airlines. Strange... I thought the EU had all these wonderful consumer protection laws.

As someone whose only real source of income and pleasure, is performing in a band, we’ve had all bookings cancelled (3 just this week alone) as venues are now shutting up shop.

I know numerous others in the same boat and I can’t help but think that as we’re not registered businesses, there will be little to no support from government agencies; it’s a shame they don’t look back just a couple of months at who it was that were giving up their time and income to support those who lost everything in the fires.

I’m going to be looking into live streaming options, and possibly taking performances to apartment blocks where we could possibly set up in courtyards and play to people on their balconies who in turn could live stream, but that in itself is not a simple process.

Anyway, that’s my whinge done for the day ?
In the meantime I’ll console myself with some live footy.

Edit: Oh, and I’m not saying we’re a great band by any stretch of the imagination (we’re not), but the point I’m making is that we lead a very tenuous existence ?

If you do stream live, hopefully you will have a fee.  If so post it here on DL.  We can then be supportive and subscribe.  Heaven's knows you and Liam have been great contributors to DL generally, with training reports and your lad's fantastic photos.

There's something not quite right about individual States making decisions on close downs etc.

These are the decisions that should be made by National governments with regard to local conditions.

I realise that health is a Sate matter but sometimes problems should be managed on a national if not international basis.

Possibly the states have decided to attempt to take control because central Government is not acting decisively enough?

The populations of three of our states/territories are smaller than many local councils.

Trump will be measured at the polls just like Morrison should be. This why we elect national leaders.

Are the schools still open in Australia or are they still having meetings and being interviewed by news crews every hour?

Wonder if Trump will try and postpone the US election until 2021. It's like the rule book for many things has been thrown out

The strangest thing about the US federal elections is that they are organised by the Sates individually. Could be real chaos as differently coloured States (Red and Blue) go different ways.

Cannot understand why they haven't moved to a Federal election commission like we have. They are indeed a strange country sometimes.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer.
