I'm also keen to hear others thoughts on Kayo. I use foxtel and chromecast it but its pretty average quality a lot of the time. Wondering if Kayo might be better? I remember borring a mates and it worked a lot smoother potentially.

For those who use Kayo - what are your thoughts on the service?  Happy with it?  Not happy with it?  I'm thinking seriously about making the change.

I signed up for the 1 month free trial a couple of days ago so i can see this weekends match. So far it has been really good. Im trialing the basic service and have watched some NBL and a replay of the Sydney game last year. Easy to use via my Telstra TV, and the app runs well on my sisters phone. Im already with Telstra so when i start subscribing it will cost me $15 per month for 12 months. No way i will go back to Fox subscription at twice the price. As i post this im watching the V8 supercars in Adelaide on a 55" cheapie tv and it is streaming great and looks crystal clear from my 50/20 NBN service.

Take a Chromecast with you and watch on a big screen wherever you are in Oz. (Can you do that with the mobile Foxtel service?) As long as your internet service is a decent speed for streaming, i reckon its a winner.

Wise if you only using Foxtel for sport I'd take a serious look at the Kayo option. All the sports are there and good value at $25 a month. I've never had a problem with it.

Can't play them all.

I dare say they'll get a run in the following game while others are managed.

My head-scratcher is Hunt and Hore out, but Wagner, Jones and Spargo are all named.

I'll put it down to player management, but given both Jones and Spargo had a restricted preseason, and from my understanding Hunt and Hore got significantly more miles in the legs over the summer, I clearly have no idea about player load management.

FWIW, for that role that Jones has been picked for off the HBF, I'd have Hore in that role well before him.  At least Hore is accountable and has some pace.

I'll go even further (now that I've seen what players look like they may be available for Round 1 at this stage), if Jones is named for our Eagles game, I'll be questioning why so.

Pros - Every AFL game both live and on demand. Solid selection of AFL- related programming and also classic games, for a dose of nostalgia (I watched the ‘86 Vic vs WA game the other day - still tragic). Obviously quite a lot of other sport on it too!

Cons - They never broadcast my favourite NBA team’s games (Grizzlies) and my hard-earned goes toward purchasing more human growth hormone for Rupert Murdoch.

If Telstra allowed me to screen-mirror via Apple TV I wouldn’t bother with it. But Telstra are adamant that all the broadcasts of their matches via the app must remain tiny to the eye.

I could be wrong but I think Jones only had small stint in rehab whilst Spargo probably spent until late January in rehab.

So yes, a surprise that Spargo got named, but Jones should be fit, firing and ready to go.

Hunt and Hore will probably get a game V's North next week, but it probably indicates that they're very borderline for a round 1 gig.

I originally had Foxtel and paid something stupid like 90 a month. I canned that and now have Kayo and one of the other streaming services (Netflix/Stan etc) depending on what I’m watching at the time. That comes in at about 40 a month. I use Kayo all year round, mainly for footy, but also soccer, basketball, cricket, amongst others, and I honestly have zero complaints. Maybe if I was being pushy, I’d like some EPL.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, and sorry to derail the thread.

I'm on Telstra too and the $15 for 12 months deal seems like an absolute no brainer.  I'll be checking it out for sure.  Cheers.

Think Jones was in rehab for quite a while.  Spargo definitely was.

I have made the point before that if Jones manages to get to 300 games, it means the likes of Hore, Hunt, et al haven't gone past him, which will concern me (in terms of our chances in 2020).  If Jones breaks the club record this year, we simply won't be playing finals.

It's not Telstra that is adamant... when you only have the contract for the tiny size, you have to keep it at a tiny size.....

Looking forward to Betts and Jenkins not tearing us a new one in this game.

Funny you mention that - Jenkins only kicked 11 goals in 8 games against us.  Feels like he kicked far more than that, but we always seemed to cover his sheep dog tactics quite well.

Betts has 36 goals against us in 20 games, so he has fared far better than Jenkins has.

Thanks for the info mate, much appreciated.

Kayo works really well. Casts to tv perfectly.

There is no information at all about results meaning no problems watching 'as live. Handy even if you are watching live but want/need to do something else for a bit.

Pro tip: like netflix subscriptions easily shared as it is web based service. I assume they have factored that into their pricing.

I tend to agree, but we're yet to see how Jones adapts to the half forward role. He's had a much better preseason than last year and could use his experience to get from contest to contest and do well in that half forward role, possibly with the occasional run on ball as well. The competition for that kind of role is probably ANB, Spargo, C Wagner, it's not exactly world beaters.

I don't think Hunt's in that kind of mix anyway. He's behind Fritsch and Melksham and if we're going with 2-3 big guys and at least one proper crumber like Kossie he's a bit of the odd man out.

Agree, it could get interesting if as we both think Jones and ANB are in competition for the defensive forward role.  It's guaranteed that at least one of them will play IMO.

When you read that article it seems quite incredible that they let him go, especially with the futures of Daniher and Fantasia still up in the air somewhat.

Their loss is our gain.

As long as he doesn't have to get from contest to contest fast, he'll be ok.  That's where ANB will have it over him - Nibbler has more pace, and is happy to tackle.  He will provide great defensive pressure as a HFF than what Jones will do.

I just honestly don't see where Jones fits in as the "first choice" for that role.

Bloody hell, I'm surprised by both of those stats!  Would've sworn Eddie was Nev's pet, and Jenkins just kicked bags against us.  Maybe Eddie's dominance was during that period where New was always injured, and that Jenkins' non-dominance was the Frost factor?!

Really? I just have the AFL app free with my Telstra account, but are you saying if I paid extra they’d lift the restriction on screen-mirroring?

There's a good thread on Kayo.

It works well if you have download speeds of 10-15 Mbs. Because it's live sport it needs a little more speed than Netflix that uses buffering.

It also works very well overseas if used with a VPN.

The difference between the standard and premium ($25 and $35) is simply 2 versus three devices at once.

The biggest drawback is that if Channel 7 is covering a game you will get their feed and commentary with ads during the match. I had hoped to say goodbye to Bruce and co.

Cricket coverage is topnotch as is tennis and F1 if you're into it.The replay system is great.

I use an nvidia stream as my box but there are multiple alternatives.

Finally it has no fixed contract so if you only want it for the football season remembering that all finals are FTA and therefore coverage is identical you can cancel at your convenience. Overall a very good product.

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves.
