I think Burgess’sĀ point to the players that, having done ā€œanother 35-37km weekā€, that the team didn’t get to that point ever in their preseason last year, ANDĀ that next week they were going 20% higher.

ThisĀ is Key to title, and reason for optimism.

To use another phrase from episode two, last year we couldn’t ā€œcontrol the controllable ā€œ (preseason, player prep, season prep, etc...) that’s was ā€œHellā€ and flowed through the year.Ā
This year, as both episodes have touched on we’re ā€œbackā€, in control of those elements we can control and optimise.

For professional football people we were in Hell in 2019 months before the season started. So we can (and hopefully are) be ā€œbackā€ in the preseason too...

love the videos and like the title.Ā

The injuries last season are a given but itĀ seems that last years preseason was also poorly planned and executed - an indictment of Misson and the coaching staff. Burgess seems very impressive. It will be interesting to see what impact he has.

I'd say it's his personality -Ā but yeah, he wouldn't be the most trustworthy bloke going around given his history.

I know words aren't everything but when he said he had to leave his brother's house on GF day and criedĀ after seeing his ex GC mates win a flag at Richmond while he didn't have a contract, it probably spoke volumes on how much he wants this second chance.

Would really like to hear that he's doing something more than light jogging before I can picture him an MFC jumper this year.

I am praying to the footy Gods that he rises to the challenge and puts past issues way behind him. Players with his skill set don't come along too often. Particularly not for free.

Really PD I would hate you to be a Judge if I was being tried.

Seriously short of Swearing Ā on a stack of bibles what Harley committed to he has in every way kept his part of the bargain.

What more could he do ???

Hope you believed your teenagers as they traditionally answer off handedly and without a lot of conviction.

Please it is irrelevant how he sounded as his actions are speaking louder than words, as the last 3 months andĀ the Club givingĀ Ā him the Opportunity.

Talk about a Doubting Improper Dee!!

Interesting start with Goodwin when he admitted some mistakes were made last year. Looking forward obviouslyĀ but partĀ of me was like please go on and give us a little something more about the horror year.

Is this our media team doing this production? I thought this was done through the AFL media department?

You may be right, but the impression I got was that the club had produced it. All the media releases etc say 'The Melbourne Football Club has released' or similar.

With unprecedented access into the club’s football program,Ā Melbourne MediaĀ have captured an action-packed pre-season documentary series, launching on Sunday 9 February.

Melbourne to release pre-season documentary series

Ā

Didn't watch it last week; was a bit worried it would be too much of a fluff piece for my liking. Decided to give both episodes ago yesterday and was completely blown away by the content. My favourite parts aren't the interviews with Viney and Co, but rather the parts like AVB's rehab. Watching the toe stretches with the bands really shows how much work goes into getting the players fit again to play. Also loved the raw emotions of players during their training sessions where it looks like their giving everything and then going the extra mile. Burgess' comments during the sessions has also been amazing. Loved the bit about not hunching over and showing the opposition that you're exhausted. Never give an inch.

This is brilliant content from the MFC.Ā Ā  Seems theyve listened to the supporters!

Darren Burgess is the real deal.

Who runs backwards around the Tan?! Bit gutless not running up Anderson St Hill

Ā

To be fair that's a killer hill to start a 3km Time Trial. The direction they went is on an incline just not as steep Anderson St.

I'd be more critical if the Time Trial included the down hill portion of the hill.

Great insight into the club

Goodwin - yes you got it wrong. Ā It does take courage to admit it. Ā It takes absolutely internal thinking to change And get it right this yearĀ

Vandenburg- hope this guy gets back. Great attitude. Would be a huge in for 2020.Ā
Ā

Bennell - it’s a honest call from the club. This is his last chance. Hopefully he has good support at the club and importantly away from the club. Fingers crossed.Ā
Ā

Burgess - seems to be the man to lift and push the players. Wait and see how it goes. I’m backing him.Ā

Running anti clockwise around the tan is harder IMHOĀ than clockwise. Aside from Anderson Street,Ā is it basicallyĀ downhill as opposed to going the other way,Ā which is a gradual incline almost the entire way.

Revolutionary training techniquesĀ

3km time trials and hill sprints

getting the aerobics through skills andĀ drills - someone tell my coach

Credit where credit is due. Both episodes have been terrific, though i enjoyed the second more as it provided more insight into their training and rehab.

On the latter, like others it is incredible to see the detail and work in the rehab that VDB has done. Gives a real sense of how hard it must have been for him to sit ourt all of last season after being hopeful that he would be playing.

Clever to have an episode every Sunday right up to the season opener. Good for fans but also sponsors as it is getting great media coverage (and apart from Cornes all positive).

In addition to the standard interviews andĀ jumper presentations from the women's team there has also been a couple ofĀ terrific behind the scenes stuffĀ  such as one withĀ go pro from Maddi Gay leading them offĀ  Ā

As i say credit where it is due. This is exactly the sort of stuff fans and potential fans engage with. I'll be interested in finding out how many times the Hell and Back videos are watched.Ā

It surprised me when the 3klm TT was done this way. Pretty sure it hasn't been done this way previous. Much better than when we use to do them on the flat at Princess Park. Love Burgos approach, everything is done against resistance. Reminds me of Percy Cerutty pushing athletes up and down the sand dunes at Portsea.

I've enjoyed most of the 2 videos so far. thought ep1 was just a bit average with Jones coming across as a bit of a 'woe is me' type, but no real surprise there. the second episode was better, though I thought some of the questioning of Harley by Goodwin we could have done without, but watching the training and rehab stuff I personally find the most interesting. Burgess sounds great. the sort of no nonsense bloke who is immediately likable and a hard working professional.

Really enjoyed the second video. Who was the club official putting the hard word on Bennell not drinking? I didn't recognise him.Ā

Loved Gawny's rev up before the 3km time trial.Ā

I only have the YouTube stats. They also release it on Facebook which I assume would have more views due to having a higher number of followers (142,000 likes) than their YouTube page (6,580 subs). It's also available on their website which probably gets much less views.

Episode 1 (YT): 8,500 views

Episode 2 (YT) after less than 24hrs: 3,200 views

It's important to note that I am not privy to the further breakdown of stats such as average length of viewing and the like which only the owner of the video has access to.

Ā

I will be editing all the segments together and Watching it all as one episode

One of the real joys of the year will be to watch Harley make his comeback in red and blue. I don't know what happened in his past and obviously drink was one part of his downfall but I could have almost cried listening to the emotion in the room.Ā

Burgess and no injuries could be the making of this Club in 2020

Best you don't pop over to the training threads and look at the Demonland version of the injury list. Ā It's not a disaster, yet, but it's not ideal by any means.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologistĀ  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmedĀ the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).Ā

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
