Our stubbornness to have a facility in the shadows of the MCG is killing us. Does anybody really care if our training facility is or isn't in the sports precinct? From what I'm hearing we could get approval on a number of different locations but for some reason we have to be next to the MCG. I agree Casey is to far out for a permanent base but if there's a number of closer locations then let's get moving.

The board and a reasonable number of older members are welded to G for historical reasons that have little to do with the 21st century. Until that changes forget about alternatives they simply won't consider them.

Hi BBB. As is Gosch’s, which is now fit for purpose and he plays for us now.

A Women's flag wouldn't hurt either to help aid our cause to go along with our AFL Premiership in 2021, would be the first club in Victoria to win both.

Doggies have won an AFLW flag...

Still say something could be worked out with the endless Melbourne Tennis Centre upgrades that keep happening. That massive complex lies under utilised for 10 months of the year. We still train at the upgraded Gosch’s ground but we have social and admin facilities in existing MTC buildings and a state of the art training facility built at the MTC in their next upgrade for use by the world’s elite tennis players for 2 months a year, in December and January and the MFC for the rest.

Not at all.
You just have to be creative with the way Space is used. We have Gosch’s Paddock, we need indoor Facilities for administration and Football Department. There is loads of space before anything gets close to the Railway Line.
5 years is a lot closer than anything else offered so far….

What’s the problem with the railway line? It’s exactly where the facility should be built.

The whole sporting precinct needs to be connected and that’s the divider. Plenty of incentive to get this done from all sides.

It would be a great idea, but the cost would be huge that’s the only drawback i can see

Big cost, yes. But would be shared by the Tennis and highline access to the CBD, plus some commercial development.

Inevitable such prime space will be developed.

Being a media guy, you’d know the value in those aerial shots (grand final, tennis open) looking back at the CBD needs to showcase the city.

I agree, if the AFL/govt are looking at connecting the MCG with Richmond station in some way we should be looking at incorporating our facilities into that somehow. Build above Brunton Ave and the rail lines.

Absolutely would be fantastic, but will a state Government committ to such a large cost?

Well the netball girls today got a $15 million sponsorship from the Victorian government.  And still nothing for the MFC. What gives here? There is no votes in money for the MFC is the club praying for a change of government?

I'm sure grass root netball associations would love that 15mil for Infrastructure as well.

A lot more people play and follow Netball in Vic than follow the mfc.

The bottom line on the facility upgrade it has to have or appear to have more community benefit than just a facility for mfc.  If we haven't done so already we need to be adding in Reach Foundation into the facility, teenage mental health and support needs to receive the funding and facilities it needs.

Absolute joke.

Do the Government want to drop another $100m into Geelong so they can build statues out of gold for the likes of Duckwood, Tommy "Booger" Hawkins and Danger?

While they are at it they can build a Church outside of Kardinia Park just to top it off.

What about the Gary Rohan get a kick in a Grand Final fund!?

Seems to be a cynical white knight exercise to come to the rescue of the netballers ahead of the Victorian election - not sure why the state of Victoria’s taxpayers should be roped into paying for the sponsoring/baling out of the national team.

Reading Ian Munro's makes me even more [censored] off at how long this has been going on for. This needs to be sorted out and soon, it is an embarrassment that the oldest club playing out of the MCG still doesn't have a proper training/admin base.

Must say I've been thinking a lot more about the whole precinct thing lately. I want nothing more than to have something in the shadows of the G but if there's a chance to have everything we ever wanted out at Casey? I don't know I'm just getting tired of this.

Surely someone with Clout can do something about this. This is a disgrace!!

Maybe Gina has some spare cash to splash now and can bankroll some land which seems to be the main problem ... surely we have a billionaire supporter somewhere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
