I catch up with my dad for brunch each month at the cafe under the grandstand. The oval itself looks great but that’s its only redeeming feature. Other than there being an Ibrox Street just outside the ground.

Anyone read this? Bloody terrible article and opinion piece. Peter Ryan is very condescending throughout, didn’t think he was like that.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/why-not-waverley-demons-should-take-over-hawks-nest-20241216-p5kyqm.html

Agree - Peter Ryan has developed what I think is now a habit of being condescending towards us (Andrew Wu is another Age journalist who seems to be going down that route).

The reference to "a couple of Gawny darts", the Jordan Lewis "joke", even the last line which invites us to "Pop the question" as if Hawthorn are sitting there waiting for poor old us to go over and ask them to the dance or something. All completely unnecessary but seem to be par for the course with certain journos now.

Trying to be humorous but seems like humour doesn't come naturally for him.

I would rather read an article about the consequences regarding Caulfield, due to Festers retirement.

A few of my favorite snippets:

Re: Waverley: “The ground is pristine, players don’t complain about being there..”

“ the region was going to be the centre of Melbourne by now, so you could argue, on that basis, the club would be, eventually, home.”

“the Demons would need to swallow their ego to approach the Hawks, as it might initially look as though they are getting a hand-me-down, however it wasn’t a problem when Jordan Lewis arrived.”

Is this guy serious? Haha honestly his arguments sound like he’s trying to convince himself that this was an article worth writing. Probably his last piece for the year and he’s just phoned it in!

I wonder if he’s a hawks supporter looking fr a good price fr waverley ? Dees always seen as beggars …. maybe caulfield being so good was stretching his thinking!

nah, mad filth

this article has a lot of 'random thought bubble to fill the demand for content' approach of modern journalism

Pete Ryan is only a step above some of the spuds at SEN and Fox Sports

Not sure why he even bothered writing the rest of the article after he noted we have broad support for the Caulfield project only a few paragraphs in…

I can't see Ryan coming up with this on his own. It's such a random idea coming after both MFC and Mount Scopus have expressed their ability to work out of Caulfield.

Hopefully it is no-one at MFC that put this to him. Maybe someone connected with Hawthorn looking for some easy $ to help them with Dingley. Would be worst of all if it is the AFL being devious.

Waverley has few fond memories for us and is literally miles from any of our bases. Apart from the fact that it is soon to be vacant it has no appeal. They have even outgrown their museum space there.

Surprised he didn’t suggest that the Stynes statue was a re-enactment of the great man running over the mark in the prelim, on the exact spot!

Come on everyone, it's like what you tell your kids about fools and bullies in School, just ignore them.

It seems like everyone in the media hates us and wants us to fail and keep struggling.

This article is so moronic it can only be intended to rile us up and cause division amongst supporters.

There may even be an ulterior motive of trying to interfere with our Caulfield plans.  He probably wants us out sooner so the dirtbirds can swoop in and take over gosch's paddock.

The good thing about his advice is that it was free.  People don't value things they get for free and in this case it's justified.  Idiotic article.  Let's consign it to to the recycling bin and treat his future articles with the contempt they deserve.

He achieved his aim, clickbait and people discussing it.

Move on, it is an irrelevant article.

I drive along Kambrook Rd past Caulfield Racetrack 3 times a week. My partner did some markets on the inside of the track. It’s a superb location for the club. It will solidify our return to relevance in a big way. Here’s hoping!

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
