"Liberal" in Australian politics doesn't mean left leaning.  It refers to economic liberalism which is an economic policy that favours small government, low taxes, balancing the books type of economic policy.  "Liberal" meaning left leaning is really only a term used in the United States and Canada.  So the Liberal Party calling itself "Liberal" is correct because they're economic liberalists

Hence the term "small l liberal"

I cant believe that people have the F%^ing gall to pot Gutnick. He saved us and then instead of any show of being gratefull we had to endure people screaming that he owed $300k and begging us to vote for Gabriel Szondy. Printing out proxys and waving them at the Camberwell city centre meeting.

Then to top that off, same loudmouths biching about how Zsondy just phoned it in as president.

Can you tell it still gets my goat? I wonder if any of them are around ATM to say Mea Culpa.

One of the hardest things to do for many people is to apologise.

We all know people who are never wrong and will never admit to it, no matter what the proof.

There are people who just can’t get the word “sorry” to come out of their mouth.

It’s funny really, as I scream out “sorry” every time I come home, to cover me for whatever comes next.

Gratitude to a point.
but talk to any Board Member who was in the Gutnick era. There was no debate or discussion. It was Joe or else.
we should have taken the Olympic Center….

He may have been wrong, but MFC Boards before and after him, got plenty wrong and I was on one of them, which against my vote and argument, sold our admin building in Jolimont Terrace, which today would be worth many millions of dollars.

Ross Mitchell, a Real Estate agent and brother of 3AW Neil Mitchell and I were totally opposed to the sale, but were outvoted.

A shocking mistake imo.

Agreed. I remember that building. Went in there a few times and actually got to speak to Hassa Mann.
mistakes were made, by good people. But the Olympic Center was a serious mistake we are still paying for.

Carlton surely is the most Liberal (in politics terms) of clubs with big money going back all the way to Sir Robert Menzies via Sir Maurice Nathan, John (Liberal Party bagman) Elliott and numerous others.

But Hawthorn is one of the most strongly Liberal voting areas in classically loyal Liberal localities until the Teals came along.

Geelong is a different matter. Lots of votes and multiple electorates. Labor and Liberal governments (think Bracks-Baillieu- Andrews) have thrown money down there.

Every single one of those areas Malvern, Caulfield, Brighton, Toorak, Sandy etc all still voted liberal last year.

The teals are a different matter at the federal level because Goldstein and Kooyong both include much lower income areas.

Nope, Toorak and Malvern are the federal seat of Higgins and for the first time in its history the seat went to Labour in the 2022 election.  There's been a growing push against the Liberals for the past 6 or so years in Higgins which came to fruition.

The electorates next door, like Kooyong, voted Teal.  Macnamara (which covers Caulfield) is also a Labour seat.

Most likely on Oval 4 or 5 which is home to Casey- South Melbourne Cricket Club. Although in the master plan there is a plan to expand the grand stand and also introduce drop in pitches with a view to host big bash and AFL matches on the main oval which is ours.

Casey Fields is South East Melbourne’s premier sports and recreation precinct. It is home to two professional sporting clubs, Melbourne Demons (AFL/AFLW) and Melbourne City Football Club (A-League), and regularly hosts state level and nationally televised events in sports such as cricket, rugby league, athletics and BMX.

In less than two decades, Casey Fields has grown from 87-hectares of farmland to a complex boasting more than 30 fields, tracks and courts for professional and community sport. With an increasing array of clubs and associations partnering with Council, and with a dedicated train station proposed as part of the future Clyde Rail extension, the future promises to be exciting.

Partnerships, clubs and events

Casey Fields is the City of Casey’s premier sporting precinct and the epicentre of South East Melbourne’s sporting landscape, with professional clubs, athletes and events finding a home at the complex. Throughout 2021, Casey Fields’ two professional tenant clubs, the Melbourne Demons and Melbourne City FC, won silverware in the AFL and A-League Men’s respectively. Casey Fields regularly hosts nationally televised events such as AFL pre-season, AFLW, VFL, Women’s Big Bash League, NRL pre-season and A-League Women's games. With facilities open to the public, residents can come to Casey Fields and see some of Australia’s best male and female athletes plying their trade, and with professional pathways on-site in sports such as Australian Rules, cricket and football, the platform is set for Casey's young people to chase their sporting dreams.

As well as servicing professional sport, Casey Fields is also a proud supporter of community sporting clubs, housing a total of 16 organisations across the precinct. From footy and cricket, to darts, blokarting and cycling, these organisations stretch across nine different sporting disciplines, which showcases the diversity of the Casey Fields offering. The Cranbourne Tennis Club is the precinct’s longest serving tenant, having commenced on site in 2005, while the Casey BMX Club is our most recent grassroots sporting addition, competing out of Casey Fields since 2018.

Casey Fields has more than 30 courts, fields and tracks for professional clubs, grassroots clubs and the community to all enjoy – with more planned for the future.

Main Oval

Main oval

The precinct’s premier facility, the Main Oval, has fronted Casey Fields since April 2006,  regularly hosting AFL pre-season, AFLW and VFL / VFLW matches. Adjoining the playing field is the Casey Demons / Melbourne Demons administration pavilion, complete with change rooms, a function room and office space both for the club and for state sporting associations. To facilitate the growth of the AFLW program, the facility received an $8 million upgrade in 2018-19 that saw the development of an indoor high-performance centre. The project, which also included a refurbishment of the existing pavilion, was made possible by $5m in funding from the Victorian Government and $500,000 from the AFL.

Long-term plans for the Main Oval include an upgrade of lighting and the addition of grandstands which would lift the venue to a standard capable of hosting AFL Premiership matches. Provision for the addition of a drop-in cricket wicket also form part of future plans, which will open up the possibility of Big Bash League cricket matches being played at Casey Fields.

this is the sort of initiative that should be being promoted with the Fishermans Bend development team who will be building a brand new community. A sporting club (MFC) partnering in a community entertainment and recreation facility would have a great impact.

I hate the cats but rather than whinging about how they get money, and we don’t (because they obviously canvass/lobby better than us for their club. they've been a well-run club for a long time) we should acknowledge our own ineptitude. How can we not even have a location secured after decades of homelessness. We are where we are because of a number of useless boards. And I’m not too optimistic about our prospects either. Government largess has dried up because of economic conditions and who know when conditions will improve/change.

MGC precinct looks dead in the water, so I really hope Caulfield works out. If not, then we are right back where we have always been, homeless with no prospects. Kate Roffey needs to get her finger out already.

have you seen my pleadings for Fishermans Bend? Greenfeild site that needs some imaginative and progressive proposals.

Yes, Carlton had decades long links to the Liberal Party. That was a dynamic probably more at board level rather than those drinking Carlton Draught tinnies on the outer at Princes Park though.

Despite, the 'Blue Blood' historical connections at Princes Park, it did not stop the Gillard ALP Government splashing cash to upgrade facilities at Princes Park back in 2009 and the upgrades were named after the original 'Teal' himself, the late Don Chipp (who played a few games for Fitzroy in the VFL and was a passionate Carlton supporter).

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2009-08-23/gillard-announces-45m-to-upgrade-princes-park/1400354

Football club support can and does cross party political lines, what is important is lobbying, constant lobbying.

MFC members should be trying to lobby local politicians in Caulfield and nearby areas from all tiers of government - Local Government, State & Federal.

The squeaky wheel gets the oil ...

Just a faint hope...and some crumbs to throw out to us, the supporters.

Im not so sure its a myth but I dont believe its a great option, an minor player in an add on to the major racving industry. Why not look at a new location, new site as major occupant with appropriate investment.

Yes Im still talking Fishermans Bend.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
