Flogging a dead horse, but raising $100m to build at caulfield when that cash could be used to fund the mcg redevlopement bothers me. Surey our facilities could be baked into the redevelopment, even if it means players have to jog over to gosch's and back for outdoor sessions.

IMO the MRC being in disarray is not helpfull for our Caulfield project and possibly even for Mt Scopus.

The land we want to build our admin on will have to be leased from the MRC (or they hand it back to the Trust and we lease it from them). This will require someone at the helm of the MRC.

We all need to support either Craig Drummond or Peter Allen for the next AFL chair, to limit Eddie's influence through Peter Gordon.

Beginning around 2008-2009, Collingwood massively lobbied for control over Olympic Park, a site historically important for athletics but also valuable for a training ground close to Melbourne's sports precinct. Unfortunately we were asleep at the wheel and the Collingwood filth effectively took over the Olympic Park training facility from the MFC through backroom strategic negotiations, conflicts of interest (Eddie McGuire serving on the Athletics Australia board) and leveraging political influence.

Our goal should be to take back what is rightfully and geographically more accurately "ours" and send collingwood back to collingwood where they came from. if Peter Gordon doesn't get up then we can have a real crack at Olympic Park. Watch out!

Perhaps I could move my advocacy of Fishermans Bend to Collingwood, convincing them that a move to a greenfield site with plenty of potential for a purpose built training, admin, corporate ,retail, entertainment centre, part of the facilities for 70,000 new residents, could be an idea that the government department now responsible (Dept of Transport) might find attractive as adestination point for a new tram line and potential for enhanced public transport access. A bold, progressive and dynamic idea that a club like Collingwood with its large membership and its influence of AFL could undertake.

I hope we get a move on with Caulfield. The redevelopment of the Shane Warne stand at the MCG is going to hog all the $$$$$$

The other problem with the Shane Warne Stand redevelopment is that that's where Melbourne's administration offices are. If we don't have a home soon, there's no admin base.

Why would we fund the MCG redevelopment?

Thats one of the reasons I thought we might be looking at Waverley. Though the MCG redevelopement is not to kick off till 2030

tigs will get waverley part-time til punt road oval is rebuilt

i am confident we'll announce caulfield and plan to be safely ensconsed there by 2030 when they'll start on the rebuild of the southern stand

I think C'Wood will be constrained in the Olympic Park area. Trends in training areas and the emergence of AFLW makes it too small going into the future. I think the Pies would actually be better off seeking nee facilities in the Yarra Bend area, lots of football ovals there only a stone's throw from their ancestral 'hood.

I could then see the Olympic Park area being developed into a small boutique stadium for general VFL and AFLW usage.

The Dees will call Caulfield home.

So Olympic Park too small for MFC purposes as well.

Hope Caulfield gets announced quickly and meets all our needs with no interference from racing industry.

I appreciate its real advantages especially with Public Transport and the space to incorporate our playing and administrative groups at a single site. Access by members will certainly be improved.

Olympic Park precinct without Gosch's Paddock is definitely too small. With Gosch's paddock it is probably passable. Reality is the Pies are ensconced there for now and I don't see them leaving there in the short term.

Caulfield is well advanced. MCG redevelopment incorporating MFC facilities is a pipe dream IMHO.

im not sure if it has been said but why on earth could we not secure tenancy at Junction Oval. We used to train there ages ago. I know its Cricket Vic HQ, but with the MCC connections, surely we could have secured a JV with Cricket Victoria.

Not big enough?

Yep. Had our chance for this in the 2000s, move on.

Not available for pre-season training due to cricket usage was one reason. In later years we would have come up against the F1 closures of the surrounding parkland. As I recall we occasionally used Fawkner Park off St Kilda Rd as a training venue.

I would expect us to be at Caulfield within 2 years of announcing the go ahead.

Any news on Waverley?

Yes. It’s raining, and the car park is jammed. 😉

Hope there's a lot of Tilt-Slab in any design then

Well that aligns with something I was told recently.

Apparently as of the 1st of December (which is when the senior players return for preseason) *Gosch’s will no longer be used for training and Waverley will be the venue instead.

This isn’t official yet but that’s purported to be the plan.

This arrangement will run for approximately two years which is when they expect Caulfield to be completed.

Again, not official. Just something I was told, then this morning I was told similar by a different person.

If the training at Waverley news is true, Kev and I will no longer be able to furnish training reports. It’s not just the distance to travel, it’s the fact that the new regime is looking to have closed sessions only, like at Casey.

I believe currently Waverley is open to spectators but that’s nothing some temporary fencing can’t solve.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see 🤷‍♀️

Ghosty can not be locked out of training permanently, maybe occasionally.

It would be a disaster if true.

Why would you go to Waverly?. even temporarily.

  1. Hawthorn are still there

  2. You cannot train at night, because the locals won't allow lights

  3. Facilities are already at AAMI.....same as what the Hawks have at Waverley, so what's the advantage ....except when we get shunted during the Australian Open.

  4. Waverley has a single oval, same as Gosch's

  5. If you go to Waverley, might as well keep going to Casey.

Fair points George.

Just curious... do we actually train at nights ?
