Not much at this stage.

It was deemed feasible to be built. Now you need to get the funding, that is the whole purpose of the business case (ROI).

Based on the information provided today, there will be two different sized ovals.

So one MCG size and the other Marvel size?

Iโ€™ve only been out to Casey fields 3 times. ย It is a long way out and definitely would not be preferred for the Melbourne Football Club as a training base for the players. It shows the poor planning and action over many decades to find the right location. We have to get a place like Caulfield Racecourse or Fawkner Park or similar!!ย

"A lot of players have concerns with the fact they have to go out (to Casey Fields)."

Expect the Demons' training venue to feature prominently as part of Melbourne's review, reports @cleary_mitch.

Look, the REAL reason players don't like Casey is because of the high potentiality of Random Snake Bites!!

Precisely.

& I can tell you the accuracy of most QS these days is poor to say the least, so Iโ€™d bank on this costing 2-3 times more than forecast.

Optus and Gabba (or Alice and Manuka)

you don't think there'd be snakes in the middle of the Caulfield Racecourse?ย  There's a massive lake there, how many tiger snakes would that attract?

This will do little to appease the players that are fed up with going to Casey. The likes of Trac will be retired by the time this is even close to being built.

Still positive news!

Tigers favourite areas are the grasslands of the north and west. Not so much in inner Melbourn of the east.ย

Tiger snakes are known to be seen around the Yarra River

I'll just wait until it's built.

Honestly it's disgraceful we haven't got our own ground. We are the oldest club & yet never bothered to get our own training ground.

Can we get both the state & federal government to fund it like they did for Geelong?

so we just make sure the cfmeu is not involved

and yet I've come across plenty of tiger snakes in eastern suburbs around parklands and waterways :)

I hope Skuit didn't wait up for this.

Really just more of the same.

It's "build time" I want to hear about: ie how long will it take once the project starts turning over dirt.

All sorted out. The club just sent out 5,000 honorary memberships in brown paper bags.

I hope the wires have been crossed somehow but talking to someone in the Premiers office and they told me that there is no way this goes ahead. I am hoping he just means there is no way they get funding from the Govt but will wait and see.ย

Thatโ€™s the sort of [censored] info you get when you speak to โ€œsomeoneโ€ who has no knowledge or responsibility in a govt Dept.ย

Probably hasnโ€™t ย even considered the community advantages and facilities included in this proposal. Oh and donโ€™t forget the 25 dog ย walkers who will want bins for their pooches offloadings!!

So what's the next step after the business case is made? Will the business case unlock the funding or is that a seperate step that needs to be taken? Do we then need to find an architect and a builder? Then the building can begin once those plans have been completed?

I'm assuming that the business case is to get funding and get it all happening.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
