Pie in the sky stuff if true & bloody frustrating that our club which is the oldest  and bears the name of the city continues to be treated in such a way from the state gvt with no solution yet they are funding 140 mill for Geelongs stadium .. it’s a disgrace

I live nearby and can say categorically that the Caulfield Racecourse project is definitely not “pie in the sky”, nor is it something brand new. It’s been in the planning for a number of years and there has been consultation with the public and local organizations and sporting clubs with support from local politicians and councillors. The surrounding area is already undergoing a major transformation with housing and shopping developments, the expansion of Monash Caulfield and the coming redevelopment of the old stable areas. It would be remiss of the MFC not to consider the area for its new training ground - whether or not it happens, is obviously still to be determined.

Is the wedge being wedged out?

Why do I feel this is a side show to keep us quiet on the eve of a GM where it will be a major concern from members. Having said that Caulfield has a lot better chance of success this decade than near the G. Just do it and forget about the G area.

There is always one winner! Let's do it

what's the community expectations of what the works were going to be on the upgrade, @Whispering_Jack? how will mfc becoming part of the precinct be received?

federal: goldstein - zoe daniel as an independent, on a 53% share after preferences and an 11% swing away from previous incumbent liberals

state: caulfield - david southwick for the libs, on a 52% share

This was one artist's impression of the redevelopment couple of years ago. Didn't realize how spacious the inner part of the track was.
An artist’s impression of the proposed Caulfield Racecourse redevelopment.

There is no hope in today's economic climate and inflated building prices that this will occur. I mean how much would this development cost? More than a quarter of a billion?

Let's just accept what we have in the meantime (I mean we won a premiership with the current set up), consolidate and build up our finances over time and then seize the opportunity to find a home when the time is right

That is the reason we lost Olympic Park to the Pies. Now or never.

No, we lost Olympic Park because our finances were sh*t at the time and McGuire/Brumby/Fildes did secret deals to secure it for Collingwood

Yep when I said grandstand I meant the racecourse ones. They could host your corporate and dining facilities. Definitely agree that you could sink the oval down a little and run maybe a one story low rise stand along a wing with some seats and weather protection. Some similarities to the Lions new venue.

The development area after removing all the trainers is huge. I think they'd appreciate a pool, gym, medical rooms, business shared spaces etc if they could be shared with the community. They could link in with Glen Eira College to help present the case to the government.

Absolutely.

Multiple entertainment areas in the existing facilities, that the MRC want utilised more than currently used.

This area has so many opportunities for expanded use.

The women playing their home games there on non race days and training on non men’s training days or on another oval, is further use which would appeal to community interests.

The main race days for Caulfield are in February and October with a few more during the year.

If we can get this done it will be sensational. We could go from the worst facilities in the AFL to the best.

Caufield is just as good a location as the MCG precinct in my opinion. If you can set up larger facilities (oval, gym, pool, offices etc) it's a much better option. Multiple train lines run through Caufield. It's also a very attractive area for players / staff to live reasonably close to, which is more important than fans IMO

I also live in the City of Glen Eira and the redevelopment of Caulfield Racecourse has been in the local media for years, it is not something new, it is definitely worthy of consideration because the land inside the track area is large and is not currently used, it really is dead space. There would be room for the Demons training base and also other community facilities/hospitality venues. In terms of location, it is near Caulfield Station which serves the Frankston, Pakenham and Cranbourne Lines (and the currently being rebuilt Glen Hunty Station on the Frankston Line is also just to the south of the racecourse). Also the area is really well served by Trams (64, 67 etc...) and buses. Community use aspects could easily be incorporated with different initiatives from Glen Eira LGA and also Glen Eira Secondary College to the south and Monash University (Caulfield Campus) to the north, border on the racecourse precinct. It wouldn't take much creativity to come up with development proposals with a community use angle that could attract substantial government funding.

Also, Glen Eira LGA is a major area of Demons fan support and in the old MFC historic recruitment zone. If there was one LGA in Greater Melbourne where the Demons had a demographic core, Glen Eira is probably it.

This could be a once in a generation opportunity for the Dees, it must be closely examined!

Caulfield racecourse would be ideal. If those equine pools are good enough for thoroughbreds, imagine the powers of recovery they’ll have on footy players……..then there’s all those health benefits of carrots

Caulfield Racecourse is actually in the Federal Seat of Macnamara and is currently held by Labor and the member is Josh Burns.

would adjust my post but it won't let me

federal: macnamara - josh burns of the labor party, on 62% after preferences, with an 8% swing to labor to make it safe rather than swing

This is Nonsense.

The G is our home and we must be next door.

Not negotiatable.

Move the MCG to somewhere near Caulfield and all the boxes are ticked. There's a better chance of that than getting a training facility near Jolimont.

Take all this to the general meeting, ffs ranting about it on Demonland ain't gonna change a thing. You want change, make it happen. Draw up your proposal, ideas,  reasoning, present it formally and your be surprised at how much attention they'd pay to it.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
