Those 500 car parks facilitate roughly 250,000 car trips from the outer suburbs to the G over a 10 year period.

My research tells me that keeping those 500 car parks is a 200x worse environmental outcome than removing roughly 50 established trees to facilitate the build.

The only thing keeping the car parking going on the grass in Yarra Park is the money that the council receives. Well overdue for car parking (except limited disabled spots) to be scrapped.

You don't get any better than the MCG for public transport and when a game is on park and ride spaces are usually empty. $1 train fares would be welcome.

Lot of chatter in the US when it was announced an NFL games was coming to the MCG and they were stunned with the volume of car parking available at an elite sporting ground

those new stadiums they like to build are certainly well out into the boondocks. It's part of the model. Buy cheap industrial land and surround the arena with rent paying franchised restaurants.

Would have been an even bigger political minefield trying to take inner city parkland over. Not to mention the hare-brained idea of trying to build the HQ on top of the train tracks.

That we are trying to build a home base in the middle of a racecourse tells you how difficult it is to find enough available space to put a couple of ovals on that isn't an hour from the CBD.

I'm far more concerned with having a competitive playing list and that's more to do with the above the shoulders stuff right now ... the club lost it's way in the last couple of seasons

And it's a fairly long road back

As for the training facilities, we put up with what we've got until Caulfield happens ... Waverley as an interim factored in

The old days of covering up a couple of water tanks and drums and calling it a tunnel are well and truly over.

Walked across the tracks yesterday. Went from just near the Schweppes billboard to the nearest the inner fence, at the lowest point. I'm 189cm, mostly legs. Took 126 steps.

Hardly scientific, but the tunnel will need to be long..... and very very deep at the club's end. With the amount of steps required going down, I'm thinking that maybe a footbridge is a better and cheaper idea. But, hell, what do I know?

Apparently the biggest issue at Waverley is the parking (how ironic)

So we might have to train there at certain times in order to have 7available parking
