Plan B if Caufield somehow falls over sounds like there has been a decent setback.

Set back or not, Waverley is a better location than driving to Casey twice a week, so go for it... even if it's temporary

Totally agree, and allows the admin to be located in the same building as the players.

Ought to be part of plan A ...

Caulfield, I wouldn’t think , to be available for 3/4 years. So in the meantime why not utilise Waverley??

I called Waverley as an option years ago and got shot down on here.

Is there any chance i get a 5c bag of lollies or a toffee apple if we end up going there?

Anyone!!??

Agree. You don't send the incoming president, CEO and vice captain to Waverley as part of the 'design process' for Caulfield. It just doesn't make much sense given the unique residential layout/build of Waverley.

I think (and am hoping) that they considering Waverley as a temporary home while Caulfield progress over the next 3-5 years. These things always take longer than anticipated so it would be a smart move if it is financially viable to execute without jeopardising Caufield.

Well you would. You’d want a players point of view about things that are important and aren’t, facilities wise.

Waverley would be an interim location while Caulfield gets built is my understanding

It cuts the to and fro from two locations

Happy to be corrected

Agree that a player's perspective would be important in the facilities design but then Waverley would be an interesting first location for such research given the many other superior facilities. You may be right though and this is one of many facilities that the Dees crew visit or at least the first which is public knowledge. I was just speculating but of course time will tell.

Caulfield has always been a swindle, now pushed between a car park and the pokies that we sold them from Bentleigh.

It’s been a bust from day one.

The pic doesn't do justice to the size of that carpark. It's enormous.

I'm surprised that Mitch Cleary hasn't reported this as Viney being asked to look at his options and touring Hawthorn's facilities.

Half a bag of lollies and a future jelly baby?

Just rent Waverley as a stop gap. Get the admin and footy department at one location. Half the drive from the city. Sort out Caufield in the background.

It will make us instantly more appealing as a club.

Agree. It definitely is an improvement in the interim and a plan B option.

Too sweet to turn down. Sold!

No research whatsoever so I could be way off the mark here.

Wasn’t Hawthorn at Waverley and is so why did they decide to move to wherever they are at now?

Yes they were, and they're moving because Waverley is basically a housing estate with a single oval in the middle overlooked by townhouses. Clubs want multiple-oval facilities these days.

It's a better setup than we've got ... and it would be interim.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Sunday’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
