The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread

I watched the Guerra interview the other night on Footy Classified. I got the impression he wasn't across all of the new home base issues yet and also got the impression Eddie was just speculating about Mt Scopus and a supposed delay as well rather than having any real inside knowledge.

Agreed. Eddie loves to go off on tangents and pretend he's the AFL chairman and Victorian premier at the same time.

Hird speculating about Port Melbourne was just bizarre. The whole thing felt like Guerra was at a club function listening to members throw their bright ideas at him.

He's definitely said multiple times in interviews he won't comment on Caulfield as he isn't fully across it yet.

Fair enough given he has only been appointed this week and technically doesn't start until later this year.

That is the reason Pert has been kept on as a consultant for the Caulfield project to ensure the process is progressing.

Did seem Eddie and Paul know each other fairly well though....

Need to focus on Caulfield Race Course and getting that done. That is the top priority for our Home Base.

However, Port Melbourne (at Fisherman's Bend?) could be a back-up plan, if there is the possibility of 2 ovals being built, but only if the Caulfield Race Course project utterly falls through for whatever reason.

Haven't we already ruled out Fishermans bend??

There would be few in Melbourne's corporate scene Mcguire does not know. He's always been incredible at networking.

Port Melbourne as our VFL side, ditch Casey win/win

I'd much rather go back to an alignment with Sandringham if St Kilda are pulling out. I don't really care what jumpers they wear, or what the team is called.

Clearly the Casey alliance is doing nothing for us in terms of developing players. Who are the players who have spent significant time developing at Casey in the past five years who have come back better for the experience? Maybe McVee.

couldn't agree more

And playing for Sandringham will make them better players?

Caulfield will be an awesome spot to get. If it falls through it’ll be a huge loss for the club. I imagine there’s plenty going on behind the scenes. I believe there’s an announcement in June/July as per initial report.

As an aside I'm still on the Zebmail mailing list because I hold Sandy in extremely high regard after our time there and I was very happy to see that they knocked back that request from STK.

One of the best footy clubs in the country for mine.

Do Casey even exist as their own entity anymore? Thought we bought them out. Any shred of identity of the old Springvale Scorpions is dead and buried.

Reading our annual report from last year, it appears the Casey Demons FC is a subsidiary of the Melbourne Football Club (or something along those lines).

But he does comment on Caulfield - he says he wants to understand it more "and the other options". It's that additional comment that is the problem. Members are only aware of Caulfield as the current option (we've had a few before). It would have been easy for the Board to instruct him that it's Caulfield all the way, and to say that - unless it isn't? Creates confusion.

Still sounds like he wants to get out of his old job sooner rather than later....

I lived in sandringham in the 60’s 70’s used to go to the Beach Oval regularly.

Great Club

Celebrated Flags in the 80’s and 90’s

If they went back to Stand alone I could be a Zebs Supporter again.

Couldn't agree more SWYL. I also spent some time in that area and absolutely love that ground.

I don't really have a connection or interest with Casey other than tracking how our players are going, Sandy is where the heart is.

Casey was selected as a growth corridor, and the land or lease is essentially free l believe.

We are trying to attract new young members given the demographic of our existing base. Has been very useful given we still don't have a proper primary home base

One of the few achievements of past administrations

We were at Casey when we won the flag.

Can the hand wringers remind themselves of that when they self-flagellate/copulate on this topic? Thanks!!

It’s all doom on here at the moment, only interrupted by occasional bursts of gloom.

On reflection it's strange that Guerra hadn't done more homework on the "Caulfield plan." If I had been preparing for an interview I would have anticipated a hypothetical on how I would advance the training ground.

It's a simple SWOT exercise.

Not a biggie but odd

Watching the Bulldogs game. Looks like the Ballarat stadium is getting expanded?

GMHBA aka Taxpayer stadium 2.0?

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
