Anyone else a Vikes fan, or do you all think you suffer enough as Demons supporters?

Go Chiefs - but hard to dislike the 49ers after the way they smashed Green Bay!

Best day of the year to go skiing is Superbowl day.  Everyone, and I mean everyone is inside in front of the TV, and the slopes are all to yourself...and the few disgruntled towies sitting in the cold!

Yep, spent a whole day in a sports bar in Park City and that was just for the Championship games

Always had a soft spot for the 9ers. A mate of mine organizes an area at the Wharf Hotel every year and he has never seen a Superbowl victory for them. I'll be there decked out in my Denver Broncos gear. I recently came across my old Orange Crush jersey that a purchased in Denver in 1983. I won't be wearing that as it's a bit tight and I don't think I'd be able to breathe after a dozen Bud's.

All you NFL fans should be posting on the NFL page in other sports

I generally post on the NFL page on bigfooty or Jets Gang Green forum if in doing my NFL thing

On the 9ers, Bosa is a beast, love watching him play. Mahomes does ridiculous things I haven't really seen other QBs do, throwing across his bodywhike running away from the receiver

There will be plenty and quite a few of my Niners friends will be there. I'll be at Kicks in Elizabeth St but if we win I may end up at Beer Deluxe who knows!

Look for the old bloke in the Young shirt and young bloke in the Kittle shirt. Happy to say hello.

Go Niners

It's weird that Kansas City is actually in Missouri...but anyway carry on my wayward sons...

Why is this game called Football?

1. Hired a phenomenal coach in Kyle Shanahan who had done a long and varied apprenticeship in many spots but hadn't got the credit he deserved due to concerns about nepotism, youth and failure to see how well he did in bad circumstances.

"The 49ers have 2 head coaches. Kyle Shanahan and his father Mike Shanahan" - Skip Bayless last week (leading US journo, the Slobbo of AFL)

I wonder if the narrative will be that Daddy helped coach Kyle win a superbowl if the SF win?

how much are they struggling for half time entertainment - J Lo and Shakira.

news flash - its not 2001!  and even in 2001 they were both rubbish!

How much are we struggling for sport to discuss - American “foot”ball!
Finding this post in the Melbourne Demons forum is like finding an anchovy on your meat lovers pizza. Surely it should be in the Other Sports forum (it only appeared here because of some very tenuous link to the MFC’s recent performance).

Why would you win the toss and defer and let the other team choose?

An extremely good question for which I have no answer

You get the ball in the second half. It’s often hard to score on the first drive of the game, better to have the ball to start after half time when you can make adjustments. Plus the team that defers often ends up with the ball to close the first half as well so you get 2 goes in a row either side of half time

Nope, only someone like Skip would go with that. No doubt Dad has played a role but this is Kyle’s team and game plan

And like that, it was [censored] away.

Just for once I picked the winner to support. What a great last quarter, did everything the could not manage in the first three.

49ers Choked

Rubbish the Chiefs fired up. 49's started posing for photos a quarter too early. One long term losing streak gone, one longer one to go!

The thing is, the niners would have been better last year if JG didn’t do his knee.
Mahomes is called showtime for a reason, he just finds ways to win.
Niners played well but like the Texans and Titans before them, it’s bloody hard to stop KC offensively, you need to score as much as them. Hence last year the Rams and KC played a 54-51 game. They. Just. Score.

They were having trouble protecting the quarter back for the first three quarters and could not get going. A bit better protection in the last quarter and WHAM.

But Mahomes still scrambled a lot, the Oline did a massive job on keeping Bosa under control all game really.

Good game

KC got the benefit of two close decisions which could have gone either way.

The half time entertainment was woeful. While the singers may be  very good their choice of songs and the over production using dancers left a lot to be desired.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

  • PREGAME: Sydney

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
