Got my ankle biter's today. Full of plastic crap that will go unused. Another rubbish backpack and toy footy. Reminds me of the primary school 30cm ruler collection at home.

Well today mine turned up and probably  because I had been prepared by this thread I am happy.

Yep little more than the membership card but I can remember that is not so long ago that is all you got.

Will one of us not buy a membership without all the bibs and bobs of recent years? I seriously doubt it.

For 2020 all I want is to win 12- 14 games and play finals everything else is superfluous.

I'll take those wins and finals as fair exchange for the loss of my very handy former lanyard. To explain, as an MCC member you have to display your membership when you return to your seating area from the bar, sunny, food concourse etc, so being able to hang the thing around your neck saves hunting through pockets. I have the MCC card back to back with the MFC card (which I almost never use) so the lanyard and plastic pocket are about the only useful things in the old members' pack.

The calendar; never looked at it more than once, the stickers...the choice of design was nice but most went unused, the plastic envelope was also next to useless. It would be great if the letter included an explanation for the cutbacks, especially if they were taken as a matter of principle for reducing waste. I suspect, however, that it's a cost cutter only and a reflection of our financial standing.

Just use this year's lanyard?

My oldest son got his membership pack the other day but no indication my youngest son's pack has been posted yet.

This may well be in my imagination but was there not a survey last year asking questions about what you received in the pack and it's worth to you? Perhaps the cut backs are the result!

While we are on memberships, has anyone noticed that the standard 'benefits' are being slowly whittled away, without notice?

Until a few yeas ago we would receive a yearbook, a calendar and as an option 2 free game passes.

  • Last year, the yearbook was replaced with an on-line version.
  • Last year the calendar was made conditional on agreeing to automatic renewal.  Having agreed to auto renewal the calendar has totally disappeared!
  • And the 2 free passes are now only an option if you agree to a digital membership 'card' on a phone rather than a plastic cared.

Like od, I consider my membership of 20 years an annual donation so the 'benefits' aren't part of why I join up but I like having a physical copy of the above.

I understand the club wants to cut costs and go digital but these are small benefits to extend to members and shouldn't be so readily withdrawn.

I think I need to read the available options a little better, this year is my 15th consecutive as a Redleg and until I read your post I had no idea about the two free passes. I only get down for about four games a year but always takes guest by purchasing GA tickets as well as Redleg guest passes.

Thanks.

Luckily I do have a backlog, but the plastic pockets have a limited shelf life. Officeworks my next stop.

We received our three on Friday..............!!

I received the lanyards but no plastic pocket, used our 2019 issue.

Arrived on Thurs, 19 year consecutive. Would be 23 years consecutive but 2001 still remains a mystery at 15 y.o. All good.

I did pay the extra $5 to get Maxy on my card but the regulation card has arrived in the mail and the office closed for the break as soon as I found out. Ah well, on the new year resolution list.

As per normal, my membership pack on my dedicated Demon payment plan failed to reach WA prior to Christmas.

Serious question Steve, why is this a problem?

Because they say “buy now and receive your membership pack before Christmas.”

Other than that, I couldn’t give a [censored].

But, why say it? It’s fail upon fail.

It isn't if it's not a Christmas gift. Doesn't help by the club promising to deliver pre Christmas

Ok, I never cease to be amazed by why the club makes this promise. All I need is it delivered before the first game.

Why they don't make this an opt in for delivery before Christmas amazes me.

They seem to have never heard the old business statement of under promise and over deliver.

Seems they are stuck in over promise and under deliver.

Seems the simple solutions are lost in business these days dc.

A recent parcel to WA was sent on the 14 th and due to reach a WA friend last Mon on the 23rd Steve.

So really MFC  can't control the post and I Live in Brisbane and allow extra for mail unless it is EXPRESS

Would u be willing to pay the extra ?

I might but it's not a present or anything urgent. I can give my friend the Members ticket if arrives before I visit Melb at Cmas OR can give it betw Dec and March if down or post it down otherwise.

I then get RecRights tickets for the home games I come down for on the day or pre book Anzac Eve, QB and prob the Carlton game.

Perhaps the MFC can say that no guarantees interstate and offer person to pay for express if want too to remove doubt or order on special delivery.

I'm surprised how few on here seem to have opted for digital! Surely this would save the club a fair bit of coin.

In saying that my digital membership hasn't arrived and I've been on direct debit for about 10 plus years.

Any other digital opters received theirs?

I also opted for a digital membership and the club's FAQ says that the digital 'card' will be available through the MFC iPhone App in November just after the AFL releases the 2020 fixture.

After the Club sent me an E-mail saying the membership kit had been posted out I waited to see what would arrive. A scarf appeared in the post the day before Xmas and no further information was included.

And then I found that the Melbourne iPhone App is currently not working - the landing page comes up but then it crashes.

I wrote the Membership to see what the issue was but the office had already closed.

So I guess we will have to wait until the new year to see what the problem is. But there is still 3 months to go so no problem.

best wishes

bill

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
