Forget predictions - the truth will be out there by round 6.

a lot in that

I can see the Board when we are 0-2 with all the usual spin but if we are say 2-4 it's almost season over... it certainly would be at say 3-6.

That was what was so disappointing about 2019... you could see the season was lost relatively early.

4 -2 and I'm on the bandwagon

For most of the last 10- 15 years we long suffering fans have been able to confidently book September holidays by round 6.

After much study and crystal ball gazingI think we will win 12 games in 2020 and scrap into 8th place.

Win the first final and lose the second. It is hard to imagine we could have the levels of injuries as this year.

Gawn will be a Dual captain with Viney, sadly he will once again miss a goal from 30 meters out in the dying minutes of the first game and see us go down by 3 points.

The Weid will play 15 games and kick 25 goals. Pickett will play 14 games and win us the first final.

Spargo will spend the year at Casey.

I predicted last year we would miss finals but still make a GF in one of the next 3 years.

2020 is the year. Top 4 finish and we make the GF (I won't ruin the surprise by saying if we win or not)

Clarry to win the brownlow

May to be AA

Viney to win the BnF

of the 5 losses we have, some on DL still blame Goody after each one

Harley Bennell plays at 80%+ his previous capacity from the bye on and most other things going right - we win the flag.

This is a serious chance of happening imo, he will go to another level next year, capable of kicking big bags, most natural classy forward i have seen at Melbourne since liam jurrah

Goodwin sacked after Round 6, replaced by Yze and Lewis working together

OMac traded for free to the Filth as an incentive for the trade of the Weed

From Round 7, Dees win every game and play in GF (and winning the Premiership)

Preuss kicks 80 goals at FFwd, Jackson nabs 50 for the year

Oliver wins Brownlow

Pickett wins Rising Star and kicks 60 for the year

Vanders returns in 'break out' fashion

Membership hits 80K

Gawn becomes Co-Captain with Viney

We learn how to handle the Media, and they start to love us because we don't start making stupid predictions about the season.

Only Club reps with an IQ above 100 are allowed to talk to the Media.

We invite all the Umpires to come to the Club incessantly instead of going to Cats or Bummers period....

Razer gets an all expenses trip to Los Vegas or The Vatican depending on how he bounces, after the GF no strings attached...

Petracca is  ready and will bring his A game.

May  and Lever will be injury free  and will lead the back line.

Langdon  and Tomlinson  will prove they are worth their salt.

Oliver to win the Brownlow by a country mile.

Gawny to be AA again.

Goodwin to be coach of the year.

The sky is the limit. Why not we have the team.

Dream if I may However we are good enough.

Bring on 2020.

10-12 wins but if everything goes well we might win 1 or 2 more games and gain a finals spot.  Maybe.

  • Forward line may well remain a bit of a problem although it will improve.   Hopefully the yips disappear.
  • Our backline is highly dependant on Lever & May standing out but we need to see some real dash out of defence (turning defence into attack has to be the mantra)
  • Our clearance work needs to improve a lot too - especially 'clean' clearances.
  • Pace & quick ball movement should improve as well but we still might have some disposal issues
  • The better sides will still have our measure (from an overall perspective) but there are at least 10 sides that we have a chance of beating.  And we play some of those teams twice.
  • We'll regain respect though especially if we can somehow gain a finals berth.  2 or 3 extra wins could happen if I'm wearing my optimistic hat

And if the above happens Goodwin will remain as the coach.

The media will be most unhappy not having any club reps to talk to.

Turning defence not attack as Macca said with addition that attack needs to be converted.

We first win respect by beating the 10 sides that Macca says we are better than and then enhance that respect by beating the sides  he suggests have our measure.

We use the entire squad sacrificing some for specific matches to provide or exploit opposition match ups.

We initiate surprises by complementing established structure with surprise unknown selections.

We are able to play several styles and structures during and between games to produce an element of uncertainty for our opponents.

Plenty to be positive about

We’re back again boys and girls. Time to rub your balls and lay down your predictions for 2020. For those who aren’t too scarred after last year.

Team or player. Good or bad. Coke or Pepsi. The ball gazer closest to the pin with their quality and/or quantity of accurate predictions will win the heralded Demonland Crystal Ball.

A template is too restrictive. You predict whatever you want. That’s the point ?

I predict that this thread becomes a mess and will need a template.

It’s always chugged along just fine until this one year where people kept whining about there not being a template.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
