I was speaking to Kate Roffey at a club function and she said Riv really loves the club and can't see him wanting to go anywhere else.

His girlfriend has also just moved from interstate to be with him. He ain’t leaving.

I listened to Mitchell's post game presser - articulate bloke ,clever coach.

He praised Max as a "generational ruckman" but , in what I considered a very interesting comment, he said that Rivers has been "underrated" across the competition.

Mitchell knows. Rivers is an A-grader. That’s the kind of form he is in this year.

Rivers is a gun. He has desire, guts, skill, speed and intuition (a great ability to read the game). One of our most valuable players and not far off the likes of Petracca, Oliver and Max.

Trent Rivers, likely to be rated in the Top 5 at MFC by the end of next year.

That said, I think Judd McVee, in time, will be a better player.

That's a big call. I think they compliment each other in one has dash, agility and strength and the other has  poise and flair.

Ultimately i can see Riv move into the midfield as a starting member and McVee being used as a weapon off half back much in the way Salem plays today.

It’s funny with Judd McVee but for some reason he reminds me of a young Hassa Mann type player, has anyone else noticed the similarity and that mark he took over Breust was scintillating stuff.!!!

A young Hassa,  I can remember a  25 year old or about.  But young !
how many other readers here. Remember a young Hassa ?

He joined the club as a 19 yo in 1959 and played in the granny in his first year.!!

When we drafted him, JT's described him as a "real MCG player" (behind the scenes footage video) and was over the moon Brisbane didn't take him.

Excellent foreshadowing. He's good on every ground, but he's a real weapon at the MCG.

JT has been one of our finest assets.  Picks them from nowhere.

When he was recruited I said he was better than Hayden Young who every man and a dog wanted him.

JT and I were on the same page.

I do remember this being posted after that draft. I was hoping we went for Young instead of Jackson. I still rate Young very highly and would have him on a par with Jackson. But getting Rivers over 20 spots later in the draft shows how good a recruiter JT is.
It’s why I’m so excited about our draft hand this year as it’s stronger than what we had in 2019.

And yet he let Rivers run around by himself...?

Strange comments from Mitchell given what he allowed Riv to do.

I'm fairly certain I saw Maginness line up on Rivers at various points in the 4th quarter.

So it took them three quarters to make the move? Pretty poor coaching if that's the case.

As a start I cannot stand the cats so I feel dirty making the comparison. But as the year has gone on for me the comparison to two of their finest backs becomes stronger. Rivers plays very similar to Andrew Mackie and Judd McVee to Corey Enright. If we could get the careers these two had for the Dees we are well placed for the next decade.

Rivers copped a tag in the last quarter. Goodwin acknowledged it and shows how highly regarded Rivers is!

Sure, but he didn't even seem to have a 1v1 let alone a tag in the first 3 quarters. Odd.

Some of the kicks Rivers did on the weekend were just a level above anyone else on the ground. 50-60 metre pin point passes. Only player that can get that length AND accuracy is Tex Walker.

He can certainly roost the ball. Saw him at Optus a couple years ago kick the ball I swear it was close to 80 metres. Shame it was a point.

Well I guess they tagged Oliver and had the midfield ascendancy, so it was the right call by Mitchell.

Sadly for Mitchell, we have too many good players and you just can’t tag them all. When they took the tag off Oliver he basically won us the game in 10 minutes.

So sad for Hawks 🙄

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
