I love Jones and he is a warrior for this club but it’s refreshishing to see not a single player in our best 22 on that list.

Having said that Petty will be come finals.

We aren't the club doctors and unless we've heard something from the club all we can do is speculate, it might be nice to look at some people guessing but that's pretty much all it can be at this stage.

Some of the things we know, based on the club telling us, are Tomlinson's calf strain is minor and Bennell is aiming for training in February. Sorry to be a bit of a downer but without actual word from the inside there's just no way to really tell.

That felt to me like a bit of an upper ?

Thanks for that imElated. While this whole site is basically based on opinion and speculation, I'm not sure that's too much of an issue. However, I'm pretty sure there are at least some known facts about when an injury occurred, what it was, whether surgery was required, and when. This would at least be a start.

I reckon Tomlinson is a lock best 22 if fit. He missed one game in 4 years for a  more advanced team than us and it sounded like he only missed that game when they found out he was leaving them.

What about Vanders?

should be according to most Dees fans

Tommo might be a certain starter in Round 1 but training  over the period, team balance and injuries and form will also be crucial.

The more fit the more available I reckon and plenty of competition is great for depth and future of Club and 2020.

Tomlinson will be one of the first picked every week.

AVB if fit is easily best 22.

Weid if fit is almost a lock to get a game.

Strange comment.

Yes agree a rash generalisation !!

I wonder it the term 'rehab group' is a bit misleading inasmuch as players can sometimes be there simply managing loads.

Or is that too logical???

Logic now that is something we don't need around here Mr. Shadow.

I think Wrecker is saying that Jones isn't in our best 22.....which is obvious if everyone is fit.

Also indicated Weid and AVB ain't...and that ain't so. They are best 22 if everyone is fit.

Not sure I agree on one of those pitmaster but like all these discussions beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Less than "obvious" to me.

Unless you're at a night club or pub, in which case beauty is in the eye of the beerholder.

Do you realise that many of my posts in the off season are satire. I'm feeling rather bullish about where our club is, including during the season last year.

God, i miss that satire......

So let me guess, you think the Weed needs to do more to justify his place? I could buy that argument but I think he needs persistence.

That prompts an interesting thought: must a Best 22 be the best side you can field on any given day, or could it be the Best 22 you can field today while developing for the long term. If it's the latter, then Weid is, in my humble op, in that team.

How on earth did you know who I was talking about!!!!!!!!

cornes not falling for it again, sounds like us last year and he still had us finishing 1st, it’s funny all the media saying we can’t use it as an excuse yet bombers are already getting a free pass for there injuries, so if they fail it will be yea they had lots of injuries in pre season blah blah

I heard that today. He is a peanut. I get his role is to have an opinion and stir the pot. But he doesn't back his palaver up.

Cornes suggested (or at least questioned if) the bombers had mismanaged their players. But provided zero evidence for this.

I have no idea of course about the situation at the ess with injury, but the most likely scenario is just bad luck. It happens. And happens to all clubs as some point.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
