Rd 1 Team vs West Coast

Are we a chance to knock them off?

We played well over there last time without getting the chocolates maybe with the inclusions of Langdon, Tomlinson and our 2 draft picks (unless one of those is Kemp) with only the loss of Frost we can get the chocolates this time.

West Coast have gained Kelly but I suspect have lost Rioli.

Based on us having the feral season we just had, but still nearly knocking them off over there (I actually think we were robbed from recollection) I think we are absolutely a chance.

Our recent against WC record in Perth would actually be something like 2 from 4 games, (including the Prelim where a somewhat shagged MFC took on a super fresh and rested WC).

Our Demons need to come out with venom in their veins against the West Coast Cheaters.

...and May to monster Kennedy

I'll also go out on another limb and predict O Mac to rediscover confidence and form to do a job on Darling.  I really do question if Lever has the size to play CHB.

We were more of a chance in the PF 2018 to be honest.

That forward line looks incapable of putting any defensive pressure.  Slow and reactive.  If we don't mark the pill, the oppo defenders will waltz out.

Not many here talk about Jetta now as a liability since the league cracked down on defensive grappling.  Check his free kick against in relation to one-on-one contests involved in during his last 5-7 games.

Frostless, where is the rebound run?  Harmes is decent in the air, and might add to the back half.

Our first 2-3 games dictate the season next year.  Simple as that.

You did not factor in the umpires into the teams above.

I hope the Dees take my suggestion of the last few years and invite umpires advisers to attend our club and advise what is wrong with our techniques. We seem to be called to play on often from mates and free kicks that then means we are off balance and structures are not formed. We give away free kicks for tackling and do not get frees when tackled high or in the back. Tripping also seems to be ignored. Maybe we are clumsy.

Anyway invite the umpires and treat them as wise gods even. Show them over emphasised respect and build a cooperative and friendly relationship. Treat them as and make them our friends.

Maintain that relationship not by criticising them but asking them for support all season to overcome our problems.

Am I the only one who fears that this team, whilst probably not that far off the 22 that will play, is incredibly underwhelming?

I think our only way forward is with blokes like Sparrow, Joel Smith, KK and some of the other kids being part of the team? vanDenberg clearly best 22 as well.

Absolutely, but cheating only gets you so far and makes it even better when we stick it right up them.

Those goals to T Mac and Kent.  How sweet did that feel.

...arr winning how I long for that feeling again.

Same as last two games against the Eagles when we kicked ourselves out of it. Improve delivery with quick low ball movement and it goes a long way to solving the problem.

Some of our deliveries last season would have seen a forward line with Carey, Ablett Snr/Jnr, Dunstall, Milne and Neiter struggling

Ouch!

I do like the make up however I see a huge deficiency in pace from the back line. Cripps, Ryan, Shuey & Cameron are going to expose our lack of pace. Hunt has to play in defence or we will get pantsed.

Unfortunately May, Jetta, Lever, Salem & Hibbo are far from Stawell gift winners.

Agree. little spark or adventure about it. We need some super development from a few outside the listed best 22.

Gee I don't know about Lever and May as our only talls to take on their two bigs.

Is everyone convinced Petty will play predominantly forward?

I think unless Weid is injured it will be Petty playing back to fill in the Frost role. Lever is just too damaging as an intercept defender to have him play on a tall all game.

An awful lot of preseason to happen before any of the above makes sense. Hannan,  Hore, Dunkley, Lockhart, AVB, ANB, Pruess, Smith etc could all have big preseasons and push for a spot on the IC bench at least.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
