Dwayne Russell thinks he's off to Hawthorn. Might explain why our coach wasn't making definitive statements.

Deeeerwayne Russell was dropped at birth.

If Hawthorn and us are offering similar contracts to Elliott and they’re both substantially better than Collingwood’s offer, it’s a no-brainer which one he’d take, unfortunately.

Just another downside to having such a poor season.

Anyone think Fritsch could be the equal to or better than Elliott?

If Fritsch’s games against West Coast (4 goals) and North (3 goals including a mark of the year contender and goal from outside 50 into a howling wind) are any indication for the future, then we’ve got a belter of a player on our hands.

Possibly, but Elliot is is a big upgrade on ANB.

IMO Fritsch could more be a replacement for Joel Smith as the 3rd forward who jumps on everyone, especially given Shaun's comments during the year and Joel yet to re-sign.

Sam Edmund on SEN just mentioned that while Elliot has many suitors, it seems Hawthorn are in the box seat. Did say that there is a lot to play out still.

We have formally tabled an offer.

I believe he actually said Melbourne have made informal enquiries.

Something along those lines yes. I thought it was offer but could be wrong.

1.  There is no way of knowing that either way 39.  We are all speculating.  You may well be correct.

2.  Agreed

3.  No argument but i doubt we would know fullly every detail/truth as to every single club that is seriously in play for Elliot.  Recall the Saints had no idea Ross was signed, sealed and delivered till it all went down and were none the wiser at any point during the season even though discussions must have been well under way at least a few weeks out.

I believe that Ross Lyon acted without the knowledge of his manager (His manager also managed Mark Harvey) and that there are no restrictions to coach movement. (The deal took ten days from initial contact until announced - according to Michael Warner Herald Sun) So it is possible that only two people knew about it and they weren't talking, unlike players with managers and multiple teams and a whole raft of rules. It is not the best comparison.

Interesting that the Hawks have Breust and Wingard who are HFF's and that bloke from GWS also plays there occasionally, as well as Worpel, Shiels, Harrison, Hendersen and a couple of others.

Maybe we are not putting the biggest offer on the table and that is what it is probably about.

Any serious team will have  multiple quick talented small forwards  . Meanwhile Melbourne has none.

Hawthorn are smart, as are Richmond.  And thats why they are successful.

Hope it's no more than a 3 year offer

Why is he leaving Collingwood out of interest?

from articles he is being squeezed out by cap space/length of term he is after.

I love how people assume that Elliott is the only player we're going after to solve our small forward crisis.

The club simply can't win. If they show their hand in a trade, some Demonlanders lambast them. If they keep their cards close to their chest, some Demonlanders question why we're not going after more players.

He sounds very confident.

"...I know that with his upbringing and with his personality, he is really drawn to ... kindred spirits or people that feel like family to him and I know that this place feels like family to him".

Maybe Buckley is trying to sell Elliot on the virtues of sticking with the blue collar team rather than join the so called 'silvertails that take their RR's to the snow on QB'...

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
