I am fine with what @Demons11 @Lord Nevand @Demon Forever  have posted.  The latter virtually confirming the others who reported having 'heard' that Petracca has been unhappy and had meetings with the club.

Any player manager worth his/her salt would sass out other options for him.  And lets not be naive enough to think other clubs aren't knocking on player manager doors especially if they get a sniff of a player being unhappy  The player manager is obliged to pass that on.

Lets say that Geelong have been talking to Petracca's manager, it doesn't mean Petracca initiated it.  He would be a fool to not listen to what they have to say.  And Geelong desperately need a player like him as Selwood, Danger and Ablett are aging and they will lose Kelly.   They don't have a potentially elite midfielder in the wings.  Petracca would be a perfect fit.

Collingwood is in the same boat with Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Wells getting on and Beams in all sorts of grief.  They do have better midfield coverage than Geelong so less in need of a Petracca type.

The club and Petracca seem to have sorted out their differences and as Demon Forever said 'nothing to see here'.  Petracca is under contract so isn't likely to go anywhere this year.  But next year is a different story.

Why folks are complaining about posters saying what they have 'heard'.  There are posters who have contacts at mfc, other clubs and player managers but they can hardly name their source.  That things don't eventuate isn't proof that what they heard was wrong.  There are numerous, genuine reasons why things don't eventuate.

I would rather read what posters 'hear' than not - it would be a very boring trade period if none of that came to DL.  If some posters don't want to read it fine, but please stop the whinging about it.

Agreed. You will never see me put up a fake rumour. I will clarify stuff but never pass on what’s been told to me. Believe it or not some of the players and others at the clubs sometimes read this. Have been told if for nothing more than a laugh. You have to options in life (1) read fiction (2) read non fiction. That choice is yours.

Your spot on about the different posts. What Lord Nev heard, Demon3 and I are all different. However I can only pass on the non sensitive stuff I’ve been told from the horses mouth. It all comes down to respect and I wouldn’t want to be seen by this person as untrustworthy. Not that a lot of highly sensitive gets discussed outside the four walls.

Loose lips sink ships and if word was to get out that someone leaked it, they risk losing their jobs, compromising their income, families and social lives. Do you all think real sources would let it out? The odd time you will hear something rare but it is “rare”. I’ve been told on countless times, don’t ask a question you know can’t be answered. I understand this and respect his position not to compromise himself.

What I can say is that the issues the club was unsettled on, were the positional areas where the guys would play. Hence the meeting with Tracs manager. The boys across the group are frustrated. They all think they can do better. They had an offsite whereby they all put their hand up to play in the middle (brayshaw, trac, Oliver, Lewis, Jones, Neal Bullen etc) and some were chosen over others and some players didn’t agree. That’s the only issue.

Ive got more but will not let it out as to protect my source.

So Demon Forever.. im not being smart at all here, but  i just want a bit of clarification because i respect what you have to say, so is the wash up that Trac wont move (at least this trade period) and that while there is a bit of agitation within the club, its not  a total disaster?

Is that fair?

I could care less if posters post rumours without any supporting info. Good for them.

But when posters include the sort of contextual information Lord nev and demon forever posted (Thanks to both btw) I find it much, much more interesting and valuable, particularly because I have zero inside sources. I can use that info to sort out what I think might be the 'truth' of a given situation and often two bits of info build a picture and sometimes corroborate other info.

Define my won’t move and this has been made to be bigger than what it actually is. Brayshaw, Oliver and trac are know as the 3 stooges inside the club. So much bro love they could never leave. Well you know what I mean. Never say never but sure as hell not this year or anytime soon that I can see. The boys, not just the ones mentioned here are very tight as a group.

You seemed quite demanding for posters to name their source earlier today:

To even consider taking a rumour or any mail seriously i for one need a source. Or if that is not possible at least some indication of who the rumor has come from (eg player manager, club employee, board member etc etc).

and

To Lord Nev:

Ok, lets play the game. Who is your 'reliable source'.  its not guaranteed he'll be with us in 2021 by any stretch? Seriously? Sheesh.

So if you couldn't care less if posters post 'rumours' why push so hard for sources...

As Demon Forever said if someone identified the source eg player manager, club employee, board member etc there could be serious consequences as there are ways of tracing info back to the source.

It easy to tell which posters have reliable sources:  they are considered posters on most matters are neither 'happy-clappers' nor 'club knockers' and they post what they hear on selected players/events.

Bingo - if I or anyone else placed the winning lotto numbers on here and it didn’t work on Saturday, would you be mad? Like I said take what you want out of it. Use your wisdom and get to know who is usually accurate. It’s your call. Sometimes the guys that post the least are the ones just overseeing what the outside are thinking and vice versa.

Serious question. Why would Trac’s manager get involved in issues relating to Trac not being happy with what position he’s playing in?

Because with a player like Trac, his manager would make it his business to be more involved than he needs to be. Trac likes attention, and he’d be a cash cow for a manager.

Obviously I'm not going to pass on who has told me things on the internet.

From "Source 1", whom I don't know personally but a good friend knows well:
Geelong are chasing Trac VERY hard and believe they can get him, more likely next year than this. Some situations between Trac and the club have not been handled well and he's very unhappy about it. No mention of it being Goody, so don't know if it involves him or more player management people like possibly Mahoney, Viney etc.

From "Source 2", whom I know well and has very strong connections at the club:
Bartlett told him directly Trac won't be going anywhere this year. However, there are some problems within the club that have the playing group split somewhat and it hasn't been handled very well.

Source 2 is the same person who told me McCartney would be gone, Jennings would be gone, Langdon was a lock, GC will get pick 2 and more well before any of those things were publicly known. Some of those things I posted here before they happened also. That person also told me about the Yze enquiries, which I posted here and have since been mentioned in the media, but not hanging my hat on it yet given it hasn't happened.

I understand the hesitation to believe what is posted by random people on the internet, I am exactly the same, so I'm not too fussed if you choose to not believe me. If you look through my posts since being here though, I haven't been one to just make things up and have posted some info well ahead of time that's proven to be correct. Not saying I'm infallible of course, but I'm not here to make up false stories.

See, this is where I get a timely reminder to treat everything I hear myself and everything anyone claims to have inside knowledge of, with a very healthy dose of care and skepticism.

I can just about guarantee I know more about the machinations around the Yze situation and not all is as it seems. What you’ve said may be correct to the knowledge of the people involved on your end, but that does not mean it is absolutely correct, and I happen to know different. And it doesn’t mean events won’t play out to look like it was correct.

Not going to happen from me anyway. Totally understand why you would want it, but please be mindful that although my source has left the club recently it wouldn’t  sit well if people thought he was leaking stuff. He has much bigger aspirations than what he did for us at our club and is a top bloke also. Just to be clear and for the protection of whom I’m speaking about, he has at no stage leaked anything that is detrimental to our club or it’s players. More so just clarifying some of the BS that was going around.

Maybe i didn't make myself clear. I totally understand that more often than not people can't reveal their source. But if that is the case contextual info of the sort you and Lord Nev provided is really helpful. You gave me more than sufficient information to help me make a judgement on the validity of your comments. Which is great.

LH, perhaps  you are right and i am being disingenuous to say i couldn't care less if posters post unsubstantiated 'rumours'.

The more honest comment is that in most instances i don't but i am suspicious about the motives of some posters and have read enough misinformation over the years on DL to know that some posters deliberately spread falsehoods to further an agenda (which might be as simple as causing drama on DL)

Petracca’s comments re wanting to play more time in the middle stink of Generation Me. It’s very clear that he’s currently not fit enough to play as a pure-mid or even be a part of the rotations on a consistent basis. Work hard over the summer, trim down, build your tank then we’ll talk.

And that’s what has been asked of him. Think we will see a different shaped Trac by 1st round next year. The club has basically said, you want the midfield? Go and get it!

If Petracca seriously wants to play in the middle then the answer is pretty simple.

He needs to work with the club to lighten his frame and build his tank.

The onus is on him to do so.

All good and well to want for things, but you have to put yourself in the best possible position to do so.

Id personally love to see him in the guts...the ball’s in your court Christian.

This is why I think Petracca wanting to play more in the midfield is a real positive for both him and the club. He's had a super consistent year, taken ownership of his role in making the team better, and looked great in the time he played midfield. He's worked bloddy hard all year and is asking to play more in the midfield, I'm really confident he will have a massive preseason and demonstrate what he can be. Exciting times!

Sounds like a few of generation "me" is showing its feelings of entitlement at the club.

OK, so you arent getting enough midfield time.... ask yourself why.... it may just be you havent earned it.

Im not a fan of the coach, but in the end the players should NOT be calling the shots.

They havent earned the bloody right.

My mail is that Tracc had the opportunity and was being pressured (somewhat) to move at his last contract negotiations but chose not to as he was happy with things at the MFC (at that point).  If you recall, at that time he stated he wanted to be a one club player.

Like any player worth his salt in the AFL trade circus though, Tracc staying on is not a fait accompli but i'm quietly confident he isn't going anywhere in 2020 and will at least see out his contract.

However, the club we should be wary of and will likely come knocking if he has a very good 2020 is much closer to home and it's banners don't fly from dawn to dark.

Another very important reason to make sure 2020 is a ball burster of a season accross the entire club.  We can ill afford to lose the likes of Christian, assuming he finally has the year we have been hoping for in 2020.

Do you remember when Roos made mention of the player managers having too much influence?  That was in early 2014 not long after he took up the role as coach.

The comment got brushed off but I thought it was quite an important observation.

Prior to that Roos often said that "There is something wrong at that club"

Make of that what you will.

Spot on 'Rusty Nails'.

2020 is a huge year for player retention:

  • Petracca out of contract
  • Hunt and Harmes OOC and in their 'pre-free-agent' year
  • Salem not OOC and also in his 'pre-free-agent' year
  • Hannan, Fritsch, Petty and a few others OOC.

Wondering if anyone is confident one of the Adelaide clubs won't make a play for Petty next year?

For mine we need to fix the off-field stuff, improve player development and make inroads into finals (not just scrape in and go straight out) and no reason for players to go.  Fail on those and who knows who will fly the coop.  Lord knows there will be plenty of enticement from other clubs for their services.  Undoubtedly clubs would be circling as right now.  As as you have alluded to our friends down the road are circling.  Who knows if any of the above are enticed out next year but we need to give them every reason to stay.

Hopefully, most of the above will have re-signed by mid 2020 for more than their 'pre-free-agent' timeframe.  For mine the number of young talent re-signing by around mid-year will be a litmus test of how the club is traveling.

Not saying he's gone of course, but it seems like it's more than just the usual manager posturing.

Rumour of course, so you're welcome to believe or not.

That is the one club i was hoping not to hear anything of.
