Sorry if this is about Spargo, then it must be a joke. Spargo was gifted games in 2018.  Didn’t get a rising nomination because his games were average.  His final vs Eagles was a sign that he is not up to it.  At his height, like Daniels and Gresham, you need real grunt and skills.  Spargo is a nice player, kicking is horrendous and has no real pace. Imo he should be delisted or traded now.

I am not saying he is a superstar but for people saying to get rid of him after 2 years is ridiculous.

Gifted games and not nominated for the rising star, mate please you are kidding yourself.  There would be 100 players eligible to be nominated for a Rising Star in any year and  only 18 get nominated, so you theory is completely flawed.

The final against the Eagles shows he is not up to it??   The kid was in his 1st year we got beat by 90 pts.

You are completely off the mark.

Time will tell. The shocking turnovers he had in EVERY game he played will need to be solved. His disposal is a killer to the team. We will see who’s off the mark.

Not sure where to put this so here is as good as any place.

Heard King yesterday put big wraps on Sparrow as a mid...

I don't think he would have seen much if any of him so the wraps must be coming from someone he rates to make that call.

Hard at it and explosive pace away are King's comments.

Personally I've been concerned that he didn't get a lot of ball at Casey when playing as a mid.

Have though he might make it as Jetta's replacement.

I guess we wait and see.

I hope King is right on this occasion.

Heard it too. I remember watching a practice game and noticing one very classy thing he did which prompted me to find out his name.

I would add May to that list, just needs to spend more time on the park.

He added real stability to the back half when he was there.

May is a dam solid defender, but he is not AFL elite like Maxwell Gawn

Agreed. Some pretty questionable moments attitude/ego-wise throughout that season. I hope he irons that stuff out as he improves.

Agreed. Gawn and Oliver are A grade.  Clarry just needs someone to tell him to kick the fuc&))$n goal rather than handballing the footy inside 25 metres of goal.  Then he’s dusty like !!

so still only 2 blokes delisted??  all exit interviews would be had by now yeah?

At the moment we have 3 senior spots open 2 if we pick up Langdon, pick 2/3 & 38. That's not enough to regenerate the list, so I reckon there must be more delistings or trades to come.

Dusty-like? I don’t reckon.

Just because we project a Dusty-like image over him as he fearlessly breaks through a pack then finds his balance with lightning pace in order to summon a handball like the crack of a whip to nobody in particular, doesn’t mean he’s Dusty-like.

this is a by-product of a bad year and the need to be constantly updated on what we are doing trade wise and draft wise, but I'm hearing very little of what we are doing. Which in previous years has been a strength, we have not leaked a lot so i just hope we are active, i see Langdon not even confirmed from our point of view and no agreement has been reached.

I keep reading that Geelong are into everyone, St Kilda, Carlton, Hawthorn, the dogs, but really nothing about us. i hope we are busy, the amount of players that get to other clubs fairly cheaply for third rounders makes me wonder why we are not doing those deals, this year there are a host of players that would improve our side, like Cutler and even josh Bruce, but we are not linked to these deals.

As i said, this paranoia stems from the shocking year, but some news would be good, instead of articles about players saying they had good years when everyone of the 50k members we have would disagree strongly.

Wrong !Spargo, Billy Stretch just as bad

Trade or delist. Spargo, Billy Stretch, JKH, ANB, T Smith, both Wagners.

AVB Gets one more year under the new fitness Guru and thats it

Chandler and Bedford Just by the skin of their teeth

Hopefully Dunkley comes on a Bit

Spargo 80% efficiency, 4 tackles,  (77% game time) v North

Stretch 95% efficiency 21 disposals (70% game time) 3 tackles,  v North

ANB signed for 2 years so hes a lock anyway......

C Wagner 70% efficiency, 5 tackles  16 disposals (78% game time) v Syd

JKH 73% efficiency, 2 tackles, 15 disposals (72% game time) v North

'Just as bad'......what do you mean? When Goodwin says quote 'Our efficiency & turnovers are killing us', I just don't get it. No point in spending all of our salary cap money on more recruits that continue to turn the ball over. Game plan & direction is the issue......But I'd be interested to know who's efficiency is on average better than some of the above?

Ok PF....

Will do, but who would you like me to do the comparisons with? Viney, Brayshaw, Oliver, Jones, Melksham, Lewis, Hunt?

I don't think you want me to do that because you already know what the result will be......

OK but whatever stats ur going on there will always be discussions about Validity.

Example Clarry makes Supercoach Team of the year AND NO 1 for Contested possessions in AFL and doesn't even Rate for best 40 AA

FARCICAL!

The players mentioned are all NQR and should be moved on IF we wanna be successful

Well I disagree again, but appreciate the discussion.

Its your thoughts that some players are NQR & my thoughts that the senior players are more responsible for our demise this year....but at the end of the day its the coaches opinions only that matter.

for example: The coach loves Spargo, Hannan, Lever , & that's been evident this year & he would play them prematurely & at every chance he could. Brayshaw & Hunt (& others) warranted being dropped this year, but the coaches favored them, so they stayed in. (Classic example was the trade of Watts who IMO is the best kick in the AFL)

I agree with your thoughts on Oliver....love him.

Also my thoughts are that Goodwin & co only wanted 22 bulls playing in the seniors highlighting contested footy & pressure etc..... unfortunately that has been our undoing this year, especially with the  new 6,6,6, rules. Goodwin was like a deer in the headlights & it appeared like he didn't know what to do in the back half of the season. No plan B.

If Goodwin's priority was efficiency & accountability, defensive strategies etc,  (like Roos) then the team would have a  very different make up, that's what I'm saying. He's stacked the team with too many bulls & hasn't utilised  his outside running players with a suitable game plan.

Like you I hope something changes, because it needs too.

So thought I'd have a crack at what my ideal end of year changes/trade/draft period would look like.

From the current list Lewis & Maynard have retired, Garlett & Keilty have been de-listed. I expect that JWagner; JHK; TSmith and Stretch won't receive contracts. With the addition of Dunkley, that means we'll have 7 list spots to fill.

I do expect ANB, JSmith, CWagner, Chandler and Baker all to be extended (some may have been already).

The Suns will get a priority pick, so our first pick will move back to 3. We will then trade that to GWS for picks 13 & 15 (moved back again for GWS's academy selection), we'll also end up with O'Hallaron as part of that deal.

I'd love us to send ether pick to Adelaide for Rory Laird, but doubt that will happen.

I'd be trying to trade our first round 2020 pick with the Dogs, they have an academy kid who is coming through projected to go top 3, so if they bet on us being bad next year, then they might trade pick 14 (as it stands now) plus their 2020 2nd round to us. We'd then have 13, 14 & 15 in the first round.

We the trade pick 22 to Freo for Langdon as a straight swap. We also get Tomlinson as a free agent. We send pick 40 to Brissy for Tom Cutler.

We then hit the draft with picks 13, 14 & 15, while also having Langdon, Tomlinson, Cutler & O'Halloran. Plus have an extra 2nd round in 2020, however having lost our 1st round next year.

Don't understand the interest in Schoenmakers at all, he'll be 29 by next season, has never managed to average more than 1 goal per game and hasn't played more than 11 games in the last 4 seasons. I also very much doubt that Freo would entertain a swap of first round picks next year (or are you talking about spending our 2020 1st on Langdon? Because we're likely to be able to get him for our second this year).

Not Schoenmakers, too old, not that great, loses his bearing for half a game quite regularly.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
