Nobody took any notice of what Max said at the B&F

Of Course we plummeted

Big Max placed the writing of the wall this season very early - he'd obviously stewed over it time and again before his statement.

Wondering if random supporters can join the pre-season camp, and bust their guts showing the lads how to give everything you’ve got..

You volunteering, KoD?  Would at least add spice to the pre-season training reports!  I can see the headline now:  "Kiss of Death needs the Kiss of Life after his first 50 metre sprint waddle."

In a way I like hearing this, as it explains a bit of drop off in our form, along with the injuries etc.

We all make mistakes, the key is how the players respond. It's up to them, the coaches can only give them the tools, they need to execute on that.

Could be the best learning curve guys like Brayshaw, Oliver and Petracca ever get.

Lewis whacks the coaches?

“You don’t know what you don’t know, and you just think after a successful year it’s just going to happen again.

“I think everyone’s found out from a tactical coaching point of view, from an athlete point of view, that that’s just not the case.”

The harsh lessons from 2019: Lewis

It beggars belief that the whole football department took their eye off the ball and just thought the good times would simply roll around again.

For those that thought:  "It is the pre-season stupid".  We now know from a number of sources that it wasn't.  The primary issue was the Off-Season!

To me the article talks to the lack of experience of our leaders, coaches and managers.  I've talked many times on DL of their respective lack of experience in their given roles.

Lewis' comments  just reinforce for me that Goodwin needs a coaching mentor/director to help him avoid such rookie errors.  Like Lewis said 'you don't know, what you don't know'.  That is what a coach mentor/director is for.

And rightly so.. Maybe if they reviewed the Prelim  in a lot more  details...

Easy to read too much into comments quoted from on air interviews but this line caught my eye:

The boys who are around next year and come back to pre-season, I’ve got no doubt their attitude … compared to last pre-season, will be completely different,” Lewis said.

Could be serious cull about to happen

This line from that article seems to imply many won't be back:

You’ve got to make some really harsh decisions......

Once again this is something relevant to us long suffering supporters, but of only minor relevance to current players.  I can imagine an excited player being interviewed after the GF siren and being asked how does it feel to break the drought.  Response, "oh, yeah, that too".

Missing the point Sue. The players who do it will become heroes to the Club and fondly looked upon for life.  Your thoughts also do not tie in with how the Swans and Bulldogs players felt when they broke long standing droughts. Many said the best thing about the win was seeing the look on old time supporters faces.

But I do see the point. Sorry, I don't put much weight in your examples.

Heard the same from someone close to the club...

It’s staggering that the players would come back in that condition and have that attitude, especially in 2018-19. IMO, the coaches and staff are just as much to blame. It’s unacceptable.

Lewis questions Demons attitude in year from hell

Some truth starting to leak out of the MFC now...

Leak?, what he was hiding behind a bush and went ppssssttt to a journalist

From Day 1 he has been very vocal exactly why Goody got him

Lot of trouser expanding in the thread here

He is free to say what he likes now, good on him for firing both barrels, if it pisses off the playing group , good

Attitude and confidence is a part of the whole package, a team lacking form, consistency and cohesion will sonn fail

Remember watching a player video ANB did on the Qld camp. Even allowing for the fact it was young guys having some fun outside of training time I just got the impression they were all on pretty good terms with themselves.

I’m going to look at the upside because what the hell.

Surely this will serve as a huge lesson for the players to be diligent and professional in how they conduct and prepare themselves in the off season.

Surely the extent of the embarrassment they have brought upon themselves and the club will make them want to avoid it next year at all costs.

Surely this would be the ultimate motivation for a professional athlete.

Surely.

SURELY.

Ffs our culture is still poor with poor leadership!

Disappointing if true because goody as a serious finals player should know how hard it is to get there and should have been ahead of the curve in pre season.

Is he dumb or just so inexperienced its scary.? ??

Hey mate, not sure what any of that has to do with the point to be honest?

The events Lewis is describing happened almost a year ago, so seems fair to say it's 'leaking' out now.

All I've seen from you about preseason is that it all went great and it was totally uninterrupted. Doesn't seem like Lewis shares your view.

The only trouser expanding appears to have been within the playing and coaching group at one MFC...

A team that (some said all was fine, what are you talking about idiot during the preseason....) that turns up under prepared and arrogant (players and coaches) will generally fail. You might not see it but last on the ladder (Suns don’t count) shows it. There is nothing that can justify this debacle of a season.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
