For sure Jones is tradable, if managed well (though far from a certainty at MFC)

Would I like to see him stay and get to 300 games and be a one club player? The romantic in me says yes. But romance won't get us closer to a flag. He won't play in a flag at MFC. Do you think Jones would want to stay because of loyalty or because he thinks he's weekly best 22? In 2020 he's not.

He has a couple of years to add to a club like Gold Coast who struggle to keep experienced stars. He'd get one year with us, some of it at Casey. Fresh start at a young club, surf next door. I'd say it's tempting.

3 + Jones to GCS for 2 (Anderson).

As much as you might want that to happen Jones is staying Moon.

Hopefully he'll improve a little also assuming he gets a full pre-season in.

Jones is not in it for the money and has no affection for the Gold Coast. Why would he make himself some tradeable commodity?

He has never been a leader by tongue it is all on field. Lead by example and his best footy is behind him. His leadership doesn’t work with an aging body.

The idea he would go to another club is ridiculous.

You create a winning culture by winning games of footy. Period.

All else is smoke and mirrors.

You create a toxic culture by doing the wrong thing by your staff. Perception is important.

We on demoland are all passionate supporters and expect the players to play for the jumper. They need a reason to.

Winning is important but it can be short sighted. Carlton sold the farm to get Judd to win a few games. How did that work out for them?

I don't doubt he will. We don't have the balls to do the deal

you seem to miss the point where he needs to agree to a trade too, and he might not WANT to go north to finish his career, seeing as his wife is based in melbourne, her job is in melbourne, his kids are forming friendship circles here, his brother is about to return to the state, the rest of his family is based here?

it's not just down to the team in the afl - the players have a LOT of control over their own destiny, much more so than in the majority of international sports

also, there's NO WAY if gc17 are gifted a priority end point pick - which seems a fait accompli - that they won't be taking rowell and anderson as best mates to play together

He doesn't WWSW.   Wants to finish as a one club player which is why he'll be staying.  He may not have continued on otherwise.

Regardless of whether you may want him to stay or go, as a Demon supporter you have to admire his love of and loyalty to the club.

I am happy he is staying but if his form is down like this season I expect him to be dropped to Casey, no exceptions.

We lose about 500 points if we are forced to move down from 2-3.  That is a second rounder.  If they get 2, we should get 21 behind our 20! (Won’t happen....)

Only won't happen because every other club would then try the same thing.

Also, if GC do get pick 2 and we say nothing about it, I expect that could be because we have done a deal for something with the AFL and have been told to publicly cop it on the chin. We will see.

It is far more productive to work with City Hall, than against it.

I think his leadership must work off field, because I've very rarely seen it on field as you describe. Being on the bottom of every pack is not leadership.

That would be a sensational  deal, but maybe a large AFL contribution, together with help in getting it through the approval stage would be a pretty good deal too.

Not so. What i did say was "if it was managed well" which implies that we would put it to him in a way which might work for both parties. Doesn't mean he will. Of course he'd more than likely turn it down, likewise we might might not meet his expectations for another MFC contract. People change jobs and move interstate away from family.... stranger things have happened at trade time.

I also have posted that I don't doubt he will stay. Not sure any other clubs would be interested apart from GCS. We'll nurse him through to 300 like the polite club we are.

A few on 'Land have suggested any PP to GCS might come with the condition it is traded, to bring in experienced player/s. Who knows. My suggestion gives them Jones and pick 2 only moves one spot to 3.

It's healthy to explore options, and on here to propose a few leftfield suggestions, whether they happen or not.

Every other team is pushed right one as well, would that mean they all get another pick directly after their second round pick?

Don’t get me wrong, GC getting a PP annoys me  but too many posters (and I’m not saying yourself bn) are taking it too personally, every other team suffers as well.

Yeah.  I’m looking at the ridiculous nature of the whole thing.  I am resigned to us having zero input into what happens, so we have to roll with it.  The fact is that shifting from 2-3 has a bigger impact than any other move, and the size of that move is that of a second rounder.  I am not taking it personally, just looking at the AFL-ness of the whole thing....

Rowell and Anderson won’t be the best 2 players in the draft. Lock it in, take it to the bank.

How many picks 1 and 2’s in the draft were in the All Australian team this year? Hint = less than 1.

Getting pick 3 instead of 2 is so irrelevant it’s not even funny.

Winning games of footy takes precedence over sentimentality and loyalty. All options and possibilities should be on the table, including moving on Jones.

We have tried that with a couple of recent captains in McDonald and Green and that worked well.

Mr Old, I'd say more because of the way the club handled it rather than the reality of their time being up.

Interesting to note that Junior is no longer involved in footy - Old McDonald has a farm.

I hear what you’re saying but we never quite seem to get our act together. I keep hearing about what a great side we have but on the field it’s generally more shattered dreams. Who knows if 2018 was just a lucky season can anyone say with certainly it wasn’t? We’ve endured another season from hell and if pick 2 nets a significantly better player than pick 3 we have every right to be furious that the AFLs pet basketcase gets it over us...

But we were once it's 'pet basketcase' and received the same treatment. Isn't this just sour grapes?

Judd on Classified mentioning that we should trade pick 2 for Ben King and helping them draft Rowell + Anderson, followed by Caro saying we think GCS will get pick 2"

Judd: "Well "we" don't. My professional opinion is that I think they'll get pick 10" - It was his response to Lloyd after he asked if Judd knew anything.

Maybe that's part of the deal. They get 1, 2 and 10. We get King.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
