Collingwood would be highly motivated this week. They should win easily. For us the only question is to how many quarters we will turn to play? Perhaps one I guess.

For some reason I’m looking forward to heading to the G tomorrow, especially looking forward to seeing the look on the kids’ faces when we arrive after telling them we are heading to Wet ‘N’ Wild.

Go Demons, gives us something.

What a bizzare and utter joke of a team selection. Collingwood have 1 bloke inside the forward 50 who is over the 190cm mark and we bring in Steven May yet continue to select Oscar!? To play on who exactly? Their 188cm full forward in Hoskin Elliot!? It's going to be wet and miserable and we stack a backline with tall defenders.

Blind Freddy could see we need to bring in an extra runner or maybe reward a bloke by the name of Marty Hore who was a daylight BOG and much better match up for Collingwood small forwards.

Sums up our year.

Melbourne  doesn't  tank....we just play that badly.....

The only thing I can think of is that Marty Hore must have a bonus payment or trigger in his contract at 15 games this season......

(ATM hes played 12)

I think they will throw Steven May forward, why else would they trade Preuss for him. he was a genuine forward before he got turned into a defender by Gold Coast so he can definitely play in the forward 50. at this point we have nothing to lose so i would expect an odd change like this.

Methinks Hore comes in for Lever as a late out and this was always what was going to happen.

If Lever does play then I have no idea why Hore wasn't chosen over OMac.

They only have one tall. I assume frost gets Mihocek. May to Elliott. Omac is surely surplus to needs this week. Hire hopefully late in for Omac. Although I suspect Lever a chance to miss.

I remain baffled how Oscar continues to get a game over Hore !!?

Gets outbustled too easily, Slow and horribly out of form. Seems to be no match for him this week. And I can't buy him in the Ruck at all. Hore has been fantastic and is clearly in form.

Really baffling!

Do you guys think Hibberd will get any mid time? Was he off the flank.last week when he got high numbers or was it a result of being more on ball??

I think he played most if not all in the back 50.

Played one of his better games last week, but has been a disappointment this year.

I don’t know how this happened, but for some reason my phone number is in Jamie Elliot's phone as “Diary”.  I was only able to work this out after I started getting all these texts from him that started “dear diary”. This is probably the best thread to share some of them in so here goes…

dear diary, I had this idea today to finally see what happens inside a dishwasher when it’s on. Bucks said he didn’t have any scuba gear I could borrow though and reckons no one else at the club would either.

dear diary, Steele Sidebottom  called me a short [censored] at training yesterday so today I went to Luna Park to check if I was tall enough to go on all the rides and it turns out I am so he’s wrong. I didn’t actually go on any of the rides because I had too much coke zero.

dear diary, got a massive fright earlier today. I went to grab my phone but accidentally grabbed my ipad and for a moment I thought I had shrunk.

dear diary, was late to training today because I poured a can of Red Bull in my garden and then got about halfway through drinking 20 litres of water out of the watering can before I realised what I’d done.

dear diary, today I went to Ikea with Darcy Moore to get some stuff for his new place. At the checkout the lady said are you gonna pay for the plunger too? What plunger I said? Turns out one had fallen off a shelf and stuck to my head about 20 minutes earlier and Darcy said he didn’t know how to bring it up so didn’t say anything.

dear diary, me and some of the boys went paintballing. I wasn’t very good, I kept getting shot in the face mask in like the first minute of each round. During the lunch break the guy working there showed me how to hold the gun around the right way and I played much better after that.

dear diary, some of the AFLW players were doing handstands and so I gave it a shot, but it turns out you need to put your arms on the ground yourself first, it doesn’t just happen automatically. Seeing the dentist tomorrow.

dear diary, I went to the ice rink today with Jaidyn Stephenson and Brodie Grundy and whizzed around a few laps but didn’t like it much because my feet got really cold and wet. Jaidyn reckons I’d enjoy it more if I wore skates out there but I’m not so sure.

dear diary, took the cheese greater I bought at Ikea the other week back because it didn’t make the cheese greater at all it just cut it up into really small bits.

dear diary, I went to get some Maccas today to get a Big Mac but remember someone at the club said I shouldn’t eat red meat, dairy or carbs. After I told the Maccas person this they just gave me a handful of lettuce.

dear diary, I watched Toy Story 3 tonight. About halfway through one of my teddy bears fell off the shelf on to my face. The fire brigade guys that helped me down reckon my ceiling will need to be replaced.

dear diary, I went for a run today but it was pretty boring, so I decided to chuck a stick as far as I could, then run after it and do it again. Set a PB for 5k. No wonder dogs fkng love doing that.

dear diary, I don’t think Taylor Adams likes me. We were over in Adelaide playing Port Adelaide and I got a postcard from Taylor that said “miss you and wish you were here” and the picture on the back was of him taking a dump on my bed at home

dear diary, at the airport the airplane lady asked if I wanted a seat with extra leg room and I said no thanks. I don’t know why she asked me that because I only have two legs.

Don't think so BBP.....good attacking & gutsy backman when up & running, however, like many, been disappointing & managing injuries this year....I don't think he has the endurnace to be an accountable mid either, but only my opinion.

I agree that I don't see the match-up for OMac this week and I'd prefer to see Hore playing in his place, but the hyperbole about his play against the Tigers is completely over the top.

Lynch and Riewoldt did not dominate the game and Frost and Omac both did a decent defensive job. OMac had 8 1%s - the most of anyone on the ground and 5 intercepts.

Lynch kicked 3 goals but he only took 4 marks - he got 3 of the softest free-kicks ever given - he went to the Matthew Lloyd FF school of acting and is one of the biggest stagers going round.  In one instance at the Punt Road end Southern side he pushed OMac fair in the chest when the ball was miles away and was awarded the mark - I was OK with that but not in the context of him getting frees from OMac simply touching him in the marking contest.

Similarly Riewoldt played well enough but didn't dominate like he has in the past, sure his 0.3 could easily have been 3.0 but that's still a modest return with the service he had.

OMac has his limitations and a couple of time was caught out on the lead, his lack of body-on-body in these instances is concerning, but when he did apply legitimate pressure he was free-kicked.  He does turn it over too often for my liking for someone who generally takes the safe option, unlike Frost.  But people have set opinions about players and can't see the forest for the trees sometimes.

Wandered over to Gosh's this morning.  Appears training was cancelled.

The rehab squad was out there.

Joel Smith running straight lines with a tracker. Looks strong and has bulked up around the hip area.

Aaron Nietschke and Tom Sparrow walking and running laps.

Jake Lever was doing lots of ball work with two trainers. Appeared to be moving without restrictions.

The problem is there's never been a time in our game where the forwards have received the softest free kicks like this year.

O Mac has to adapt to this if he's to have a future as a defender. Giving away 3 free kicks to Lynch no matter how soft they were, was too many.

Without the frees against, O Mac's performance against Tom Lynch would've been commendable.

Part of the AFL's 'more goals' strategy?  Though  set shots are the most boring of goals, I guess they provide ad breaks.

For starters, he's not. They're different players, in very different roles, it's not either/or. The players being picked over Hore are Hunt (played back last week), Salem, Hibberd, and in particular, Lever who does Hore's sweeper/intercept mark role better. If Lever doesn't get up this week (or any week), that's Hore's spot.

Under normal circumstances, it would be May for Oscar, but with Preuss out and so many other of our talls injured, it becomes May for Preuss, and Oscar keeps his spot, presumably on Mihocek, with Frost taking one of the more mobile forwards. May then covers for Petty up forward when Petty covers for Max, or May just take second ruck duties. Neither Frost nor O'Mac are good as backup to Max, and neither have any experience (ability?) as KPF's, and to go in with only one KPF (Petty) who also has to double as backup ruck, is asking for trouble.

Finally, it's going to be wet, so not ideal conditions for an intercept marker like Hore, though ideal for the king of the 1%'ers and spoils, Oscar Mac.

What!?!  Surely you're not saying the FD has got it right.  This thread will explode.

The real question isnt why Oscar instead of Hore, it's  why Oscar at all as he's  no valuable role or matchup. On the other hand Hore DOES have something  to add to the equation.

They are separate concerns

That was quick. I drove by about 11.30 and there was no-one in sight. Having said that the Pies' oval was also deserted.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
