We denied Richmond a huge percentage boost. They will pay for it.

Monday morning at work when footy discussions start:

Same shizen, different round.

0 tackles for Viney and Jones. Was at the game and saw Jones Coast off the back of packs trying to get cheap touches. Didn’t see him get into a sprint once. His done.

Standard late season game between a contender and a team just waiting for it all to be over...

Extremely lucky to be within 5 goals. Richmond was in second gear and toyed with us. Dry conditions and they'd have run away in the second half even more than they did.

Dont know how Max gets the motivation to play with these blokes.

Their lucky they cant look him in the eye.

And we will throw him a year extension, if not two.

Following the cricket now. ?

Lucky to be that close. What a horrible season.

Really?

I thought we were magnificent and Richmond just played out of their skins on this occasion.

In the words of Homer Simpson 'they're the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked'

I agree that Richmond didn’t look like they got out of second gear, but the wet suited them massively. We are the worst team in the comp in the wet, they are the best. Could have been much closer if it stayed dry. Not that it really matters. They would have beaten us either way.

I’d love to ask Glenn Bartlett what his criteria for an external revue is (if falling from top 4 to second bottom doesn’t justify it).

Turn up the heat Glenn. It’s your job mate.

Don’t knock Toy Story - man.

The end of this season honestly can't come quickly enough. What an unmitigated disaster of a year.

Maxy, I hope you enjoy your second B&F trophy. You've bloody earned it.

Yeah switched it off and watched the cricket when graham kicked the goal from the boundary...

Aussie bowlers have done very well getting us back into the test!!

Max practicing for next years Captaincy.

Strange this is what you take out of the game. Every week it is a similar troll.

I get that it's late in the year and whatnot, but it always feels like Gawn is the only one trying to win the game back when things start to turn against us.

(With apologies to Oliver, Frost, Hibbard, Petracca)

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
