Just wondering if anyone on here has heard anything about the contract status for Frosty? He's still unsigned and I can't find any information anywhere to show that they are even in talks. I would imagine he's one on our list who could have a bit of currency, so are we holding off to see if he could net us something, knowing we also got OMac, Petty and even Hore as taller defenders, assuming May and Lever are our keys and those others are pieces to fit around them.

If they do see him as potential trade bait, what's his worth? We paid an 2nd rounder for him but got back a late 2nd and a 3rd. Remarkably we got Frost, OMac and ANB for a pick who ended up being Pat McKenna, who made his way to us a few years later.

Think he deserves another contract. He's in our best 22 and their is so much room for improvement with him.

Much improved player, shouldn't be traded.

Frost.... another outlier for the salary cap spreadsheet.

Thankfully it should not be too much. The interesting one is the term. I like two but he might be angling for 3 with a raise.

Closest thing we have to X-Factor/excitement  playing right now. He’s done all he can to get himself another contract with us.

Interesting to see if the Keath chat has any substance and/or link with the no talk of a Frosty extension, none that we know of anyway.

I do wonder if he's looking at this contract as one where he can load up a bit. He wouldn't be on huge money at the moment I wouldn't think, when he last signed he was very much a fringe player. So maybe he's asking both for a longer term and bigger dollars????

Anyone wondering if the Alex Keath rumours might possibly be linked to Frosty being unsigned at present? COuld be traded for one another.

I hope not. Give me Frost any day. You can love him and hate him at the same time.

Has really started to become an asset now that he has some settled heads & big bodies around him. Really hope we can hang onto him. Strangely, even with all the talk about 'Frost-ball' and 'The Frosties' (On The Couch) there's not been a lot of noise about him either way.

Just a little worried about Lever - despite the fanfares and costs in accessing him - becoming what might be known as a 'key defender'. I do not really see him as such; he is slight, injury-prone, somewhat hesitant yet remains a very good intercept player. He is not the player he was at the Crows, either. A couple of good games does not a summer make - let alone a strong backline.

I think Lever is fine for a guy coming off a knee reco, he's never going to be in that 'key defender' role, 3rd tall is his best position and the one I'm sure we got him to do. He is a key to the backline, if we have May being aggressive in not only taking on the oppositions key forwards but also the game, then we need another tall to stand the other tall forwards, and Lever can float in taking intercept marks and setting up the backline. I think another summer will bring the backline together even better, but happy there getting a few games together at the end of the season.

At the start of the year he would have been regarded as around 18-28 in the rankings. I suspect he has now moved to the 14-18 bracket.

We seem to be having this problem with a few players not necessarily having linear development.. ie Brayshaw and Tom Mac. Nice problem to have IF they continue on the upward cycle. With improvement in his disposal Frost has the ability to get to the 10-14 bracket.

Wondering if he sees himself (or his agent see's him) in that 10-14 bracket already and is asking for $$$ and a term that reflects that? There's just be no noise about his contract which is very strange for a guy who's played all season?

I’d like too keep frosty and let him have a run in the middle or wing and give us that outside run from the centre. He’s quick, good overhead and agile enough at ground level, defensively been solid although erratic at times, he’ll improve that I hope, wouldn’t mind if he turned into a Bontempelli or like. Bit of size and strength in the centre. I think he would certainly attract offers but I’d like him too stay.

Whenever I watch Melbourne there are some things that I know are going to happen;

  • Mids all leave their man to become ball magnets
  • Long bombs into the forward 50.

These are expected, Frost gives us the unexpected so he is an excitement machine, no one knows what he will do next. He's a wildcard that must be treasured.

A few clubs might be thinking they can fix his disposal and in that case he becomes a valuable "rebounding defender". In these days that's a rather important player.

MFCSS just keeps on reminding me that we never seem to get these re-signings right from a value proposition basis. Jeff Garlett on his last contract renewal comes to mind among others. Makes decisions like that we are said to be making on the Nathan Jones contract all the more important.

He worked on his game to be able to run fast and then kick short. He may not always hit targets but its obvious he listens to what he needs to do. I am glad so many are wanting him to stay.

I'm all for keeping him. Has that X factor and whilst will make the odd dumb decision he is different and not your normal clone type footballer that we have plenty of and can also set up scoring opportunities

With any contract there's the 3 things at play, what the club thinks they are worth and are happy to pay ($ and term); what the player thinks they are worth and what other teams think they are worth. I just haven't got a sense if it's the club waiting, Frost demanding more or other clubs (via his manager) who are giving him reason to think.

It was reported in some articles about our interest in BHill that we're weighing up how much we think he's worth, and maybe a delay on Frost and the low offer to Jones is about lining up the ducks for other moves and they see Frost as a piece that will fall into play later on?? The danger with that is isolating the player, like it sounds like Adelaide are doing at the moment.

Think most want him to stay, it's just what he's asking for and what he could be worth would be the question? Is that why there's nothing happening with his contract???

Someone said you have to be very good/exceptional at one thing and OK at others to stay on a list. Whoever said it was talking about Hunt and his breakaway speed. Then again, they could have been talking about Silvani who is ok a but not exceptional in height, speed, high marking or elite kicking. Frosty specializes in grunt and speed. Works for me.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
