he's my preferred free agent for the end of the year, ahead of tomlinson

tiggas offer is reportedly significantly under expectations

i am, as per every player ever, presuming he'll go to hawthorn*

*unless they're originally vic country, in which case they go to geelong

Ellis & Tomlinson why wouldn’t we chase them, both free agents, be smart MFC.

Because in a year's time they could be playing for Casey on good coin.

We could be in the box seat to land a big fish free agent but not quite have enough cash because we have overpaid a depth player because they were 'free'.

I agree that we need to be smart. Will these players be getting a game in their second year?

I'm not opposed to getting them.

if they were with us this year, they would both have played key roles

i think both players would be be a walk-up start for us for several years to come

that being said, i wouldn't think we'd be able to get both - it's one or the other

Depends what you define as a key role. You could say that just about any player in the league with a few years under their belt and a healthy body would have gotten a game with us this year.

Tomlinson plays ok in a team surrounded by great players. He is tall and can play both ends of the ground which is handy.

I'm just not sure about Ellis. He has buyer beware written all over him. He could plug a gap for a few years, but is that really going to help us long term? Especially considering we would be paying overs in salary.

If he wasn't a free agent would we look twice at him?

i think so

offers outside run and carry plus better-than-most ball usage

Agree... Both would be really good gets.

Tomlinson sounds very possible and Ellis should seriously be considered.

Bizarre move from Ellis. Money talks.

Edited by A F

Do you need more than $300k year though? The only other scenario I can think of is that Richmond have only put a 2 year deal in front of him.

Yes it is.. but he is potentially about to be a duel premiership player. He done something that everyone dreams off.

Off to the GC to start his retirement fund and a cruisy lifestyle.

???

Brandon Ellis comes from a family that battled and had little. His story is well known to Tigers supporters. He has provided for his mum and siblings for years.

Not an elite player by any means. Could be a 2 x premiership player. Wouldn't be against him becoming a Dee.

Good on him for making the most of his opportunities.

Good on him if that's the case. As already said, it's a great get for the Suns and I am sure Ellis will add some much needed experience and leadership to that club.

Sounds like a nice guy.

A kid from the housos has the chance to set himself and his family up for life, extend his career in to his 30's and play a significant role rather than end up in the VFL, pretty reasonable choice to me.

If the Tigers have been smart they'll have convinced him to look around and never bothered with making a token offer that could just hurt his feelings.

They'll get at least a 2nd round draft compensation pick and with the way they've recruited lately they'll probably turn it in to a better player anyway.

And this is the thing. I don't begrudge anyone for chasing money. I haven't needed to because I come from a position of privilege. Good on him.

Take what you’re worth... what someone is willing to pay you.

I reckon the general board would light up with a topic like that.

Tell us how much you would keep if the world was offered to you.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
