Hope we get a social club with this new place??

Won't matter. By the time this facility is in place, western governments will have banned alcohol.

Or we will all be to old to drink ? it!!!

I am not sure that is a priority any more.

Admin and training facilities, including whiz bang gym, pool, medical and recovery facilities in the same building or area is the aim.

Agree Redleg. Whilst the idea of a social club is a nice idea, i'd be more than happy to not have one if it meant maximising the quality of the players' facilities. That needs to be the most important aspect of any move, it's what will attract and retain quality player's and must take precedence before anything else.

Spot on Mr. Leg. Social clubs are so 1980's. Just get the player/ admin facilities and quickly.

Even with approval, if we ever get it somewhere, it is going to take another year or two to get it done.

Well it has been 50 so far so another year is only 2% extra.

Can somebody shed any light on the club’s progress here? Was more land acquired? Or is it still just the Cheltenham Under 15s facility for the next few years?

This will be another compromise that will be shown within ten years to be a mediocre move at best.

Simply put the power clubs have already or will soon be moving to another level.

We wasted so much time and money on the last silly proposal that most people could have told them would not work in five minutes.

this one will work in a fashion but to think you can build cheaply etc in such a major location is fools gold. For those loooking for firm announcements don't hold your breath. There are simply so many stake holders it will be a negotiation minefield. At least the area is empty of residents which is the biggest problem. One example is short/medium term road closures if needed. The Andrews government are particularly sensitive in this area at present and would not allow any medium term road closures in the CBD. (Not saying they are needed in the proposal but it's just an example). Another is the obvious need to redevelop the access to Richmond station from the MCG precinct. The list of peripheral issues goes on.

Collingwood will undoubtedly move soon and I am sure they are busy looking at locations now. As we all know these moves are mainly about community alignments etc to garner the federal funding.

Then there's the next round of TV rights negotiations..... we may have seen the best of that gravy train.

Bloody hell. I just read 26 pages on my Saturday to catch up on all of this as I'd stayed away since April, and the ending (non-closure on this) is as unsatisfying as the end of The Sopranos.

Many here disagree but I think the obsession with being near the G is a curse. Community is the way of the future just like it was a 100 years ago for most Clubs. Our curse is not having a heartland and a Board without the guts  and foresight to develop one going forward.

Just think how much $$ and time the club could have saved SK.  We could have sent OD in as the "Reality Attache'" for the wake up call and be already well into the next search for a genuine option (outside the CBD!).

Pies are close to the MCG & moving from Vic Park hasn't affected them!

Pies had a heartland and still have massive community involvement. And one swallow......

Agree it looks like Gosch's...

Has anyone ever mentioned Caulfield Racecourse as a possibility? In our "heartland", half way between the 'G and Casey and stacks of land in the middle of the racecourse to build a carpark, elite facilities and an MCG sized oval.

Could serve as another base for MCC sides, and we know the Melbourne Racing Club is based there..."Team Melbourne" mark II?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.

The Demons return to town fresh off a thumping win over the back-to-back wooden spooners, the West Coast Eagles, played in front of a sparse crowd at Marvel Stadium, the same venue that hosted last week's heartbreaking loss.
