Hibberd - disposal was haphazard

Neal-Bullen - continued to underwhelm

May - held his own

Petracca - some isolated involvement

The data is there, but I felt that Gawn was clumsy and didn't dominate Hickey

Very un - Gawn like as he is a giant on the field

It's happened before with Hickey...he pulls one out of the bag against Gawn

And...I was watching, not listening to the commentators

Fair enough and trust me you made the right decision not listening to the commentary.. by far the worst broadcast of the year.. utterly embarrassing,.. but that is a whole other thread!! Gawn wasnt amazing by any stretch,  just that he ended up having far greater influence on the game than Hickey did. when a Ruckmans main job is hitting the ball to teammates, Max had 13  to HIckeys 5.. thats actually a comprehensive smacking.

Not sure about petty’s comment. He looks solid and did miss due to his ankle injury and looked sore the rest of the game.

Lever took 9 marks and had a game high 12 intercepts. Few sloppy disposals sure, but I for one was rapt to see him flying for marks again and helping us rebound.

Gus just managed 15 touches, including 8 handballs, and his man kicked the go ahead goal in the last quarter when he got caught not running back hard enough. Reckon 'excellent' is a pretty generous summation. We've seen Harmes play the tagging role effectively and still get plenty of the ball, I think we need to raise the bar for our former pick 3 if that was classed as 'excellent'.

AFL Fantasy Points - Gawn 101 Hickey 57; Supercoach Gawn 132, Hickey 57.  Interestingly Oscar Allen scored 70 in supercoach and was second ruck.  So Gawn 132 beat Hickey/Allen 127 combined.  And that from a bloke who didn't play at his best.  Gawn is a star even on his bad days!!

Didn't "his man" get the "go ahead goal" following a bad turnover? If that's correct, Brayshaw had presumably run off "his man" because we were in an offensive play and it was "his man" who could easily have been criticised for "not running back hard enough" if Brayshaw had ended up being involved in our forward momentum.

We were in an offensive play LDC, Gus was used as the last link in a defensive clearance through the middle of the ground. His long left foot kick inside 50 just went over the head of a leading Fritta and was marked by Jetta. Yeo was nowhere near Gus in the first place, just hanging out on the outer wing where the ball eventually ended up for his goal. There was no way Gus could have gotten to him in time.

I thought he did a terrific job all day and a bit harsh to say the Yeo goal was due to Gus not running back hard enough. Unfortunate his kick missed Fritta. Liked the left field move of using him as tagger. Maybe he’s gained some much needed confidence after taking on one of the league’s best and doing a fairly good job at it.

Yep, so Gus' shocking kick ended up back in the hands of the man he was meant to be tagging who kicked a goal. You guys can take that as harsh if you wish, but I think it's a microcosm of our season: Horrible delivery forward and no defensive accountability. That's just how I saw it.

Turnovers like this example are all but impossible to defend, shallow F50 entry, turnover at CHF, defender rebounding in space down the corridor. You're at the will of the gods from there. No amount of accountability allows Brayshaw cover 50m or more on 3-5 seconds.

Simple fact is if he hits that kick Fritch is having a shot and we are critical of Yeos accountability, butcher the kick and the argument goes the other way.

Yep, so because he didn't hit the target (Gus, Oliver and Viney are all miles below the AFL average for inside 50 retention) West Coast go the other way and kick a goal that levels the score. I get that it's a hard situation, but that's footy, and that's why we're failing.
