Cant help but feel , like everyone here, overwhelmingly depressed about this year. Thought Id start a thread about what is left ( if there is anything at all)  to be interested in or hopeful for,  for the rest of the year given finals are done.

In no particular order.

1. The new players. Especially Jay Lockhart. Have the sense he could be a gun. Looking forward to seeing him find his feet and play a few more games getting ready for a big 2020. But him and Baker and Dunkley in particular will def have my full interest.

2. Lever and May playing together at last. Get a  glimpse of how those two, with Frost and Hore look all in the same backline. Could be exciting.

3. Weids taking further steps into his game. Maybe one really big one of 5 or 6 goals to just whet the appetite for next year.

4. Finding form and beating one or two really good sides before the end of the year.

5. Resting Tmac and Viney

6 looking at draft picks

7 Petracca kicking  a bag.

Anybody got anything else?

I’m not really looking forward to anything Demons related. If I had to choose something it would be the progression of Baker.

Non-Demons related, I’m looking forward to Essendon not making the finals again.

Buckley/Filth pipped in GF again would do me.

My tax return

Getting my full 15 years worth of long service leave in 2 weeks.

4 weeks in Thailand starting next Tuesday.

Seeing the cat in my profile pic for the first time n 14 months. (I really love that dopey looking thing)

Christmas, because the place i live at should be visable from the moon with all the Chrissie lights we have planned.

Draft period.

Trade period.

The Ashes.

Hell, i might even plan a colonoscopy.

Not really feeling the footy right now tbh.

Geelong choking in finals again would be funny.

Fremantle, from 8th, eliminating 5th-placed West Coast.

The Port Adelaide football club going into fits of self-hate after missing the finals with nobody to blame but themselves.

Ditto Richmond.

Demons going undefeated after the bye, for 13 wins total and a 7th placed finish, ahead of the Dockers and five other teams all on 12 wins with better percentage than us.

I am hoping that we string some good wins together. Seeing Lever and May playing some good footy together and avoiding any serious injuries. Oskar B  has plenty to offer and should accumulate good game time  and more so in the midfield. He has the talent and the speed and above average skills and most of all he is a goer. Hore and Frost to keep improving just love their commitment.

Like to see more of Lockhart and young Mid recruit in Kyle Dunkley make his Debut soon. I like to see Petracca playing stress free footy and kicking a bag of goals.

We have the talent just have to find the passion.  I look forward to finishing the season off strongly. Think what you like if we lose more than 10 games we cannot make the  8 however the candle will burn while we have a mathematical chance.

I must keep the faith until we can't make it.  That is what keeps me going.

If we win thr next 5 in a row we will then enter the mathematical possibility conversation - one can only dream.

In seriousness I'd oike to see our best 22 gel and start playing some good footy, finish the season with minimal injury, make some changes in the off season (not to drastic) and give 2020 a massive crack.

Lets just all enjoy the next 10 2020 pre season  practice matches without the pressure of making 2019 finals.

I'm looking forward to May, Lever & Frost gelling.

Tom McDonald remembering how good he is.

Sam Weideman living up to his preseason promise of helping us forget about Jesse Hogan.

Deciding what part of my body I'm getting my 2020 premiership tattoo.

Hoping to see Goody develop a possession / momentum game style a la the Hawks/Cats before the season is out and we recruit Cameron in 2020.  A Clean out of any forwards who can't learn to take some overhead marks and kick at around 50% conversion before season 2020 begins.  Mids start kicking to favoured side of forwards more often (this season).  Some speed, class & finish on the outside for 2020!  Clarry, Viney and any other inside mids connecting with outside runners that aren't sitting 3 to 5 feet away and about to be tackled and who can escape their opponents with burst speed and deliver nicely inside 50.

Don't despair, the Demonland drafting and trading threads are only 3 months away....

It is always worth waiting for, especially after a garbage season.

Planning for Asia will begin on Monday, leave Late August after my Mum’s 80th

Back before Christmas ?

footy is done and dusted at the halfway mark.

That is depressing

A Kyle Dunkley debut, Gawn smashing a “sore” Grundy again in the return fixture, winning the toss against Norf in R23 and kicking with the wind in the opening quarter.

Like most, this household is feeling pretty flat.

Would also like to see if Goody and the match committee have the gonads to omit players severely out of form.

I get to save money buying finals tickets and spend it on alcohol and cheese instead (but will most likely just put it towards the million wedding related bills).

I just hope ALL the Coaches are putting in 12 days over the bye week to try and sort out some remedies. I expect wins in the the last 10 games.

This Club better not put the Cue in the rack and say “oh it’s too hard”

We have earnt no Respect

Nothing.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
