Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sigh.

Go back and look at the Gameday thread when it was announced that first Hore, and then Salem were out. The discussion wasn't whether we were going to lose or not, but by how much. About the only time in the last 24 hours that collective Demonland has displayed any objectivity.

Doesn't matter what was said pregame. The actual game showed we had the ability to win, and didn't.

I'm generally not one to be a perennial critic but it's time for the excuses to stop. The strong clubs do not keep making excuses for losses. You can have reasons, sure. But the reasons don't stack up when we clearly had the ability to win and flat out choked.

If this were a one off I wouldn't be so annoyed. But it's happened so often it feels like it's inherent in the nature of the club that these losses will keep happening. As supporters we need to hold the club to account, continually excusing these performances doesn't work.

It's not the loss, it was the inevitability of the loss/Crows comeback once we got out to a decent lead. How many long time Melbourne supporters were genuinely comfortable at half time thinking "we've got this"?

It was interesting when trac kicked that 50 m goal.

When hes not under pressure he slots them.

If hes 25 out directly in front its anyones guess.

When he kicks through the ball he slots them.

When he tries to chip/guide it through its anyone's guess.

It certainly was a 'better' game for the Weed in comparison to those that he has demonstrated in the past. For this, it must be considered to reek some potential.

I thought he showed a lot of good movement and provided an option. The mark he took at the last was a pack mark.....pretty good under pressure, it is just that he did not  finish it off otherwise we would be singing his praises.

I can honestly see why he would be preferred to Preuss because of his capacity to play a game out. Preuss is there as a back up ruckman not as a second ruckman. For him to go from the first to the second he must develop his tank.

Both Weid and Preuss are very youn g players in big bodies and need time to develop and condition themselves.

He has development left, but he would need to start improving quickly otherwise I'd be looking for a trade especially if he really is demanding $700,000 a year.

He's a good young player. To build a good side you dont want to be giving away good young players regardless if u agree with what they are worrh or not.

While 700k does sound excessive, we have bo idea of its incentive based or not or even.

Id like to see him continue to keep clunking them and making contest like he did last night. If he dose that consistently i dont care what we pay him.

I can't see where this "good young player" tag comes from re Weideman. He's a 196cm KPF who kicked 10 goals in 10 games in his third season (2018) and just 6 goals in 7 games this year in his fourth. Averaging just 4 marks a game across those two seasons. They are very poor returns in which way you want to slice and dice them.

As it stands he is not cutting the mustard at AFL level.

When Sam took that final mark last night, he knew the state of the game and would have been(censored) himself.  I would have expected our “ leaders” to have walked back with him and calmed him down.  But that did not happen and we know the result.

As soon as he took the mark Viney patted him on the head and walked away, Oliver did the same. Jones was nowhere in sight and didnt make the effort to go to him.

we lack leadership on the field.

Don't like it? Go get a 9-5er like every other Joe schmo out there and live in anonymity.

It’s part and parcel of the game because we accept it and don’t demand better of ourselves and each other. It doesn’t have to be that way. The idea that it abusing players is inherent as part of being passionate or emotional is just garbage.

A day later and I’m over the loss. It was nice to see some good ball use going inside 50 and our overall intent was quite good, especially considering we are missing so many key players.

I have no doubt that if even just Hore played we would have won. Our backline was uncompetitive against 3 big man and losing a tall pre game really hurt. Hibbo was also underdone as you expect, leaving Frost as our best defender down there. You can’t win games a football with that sort of defensive quality. Or lack thereof.

Encouraged by Weideman who other than the poor kick at goal was quite good, especially given he was battling a hip issue just a couple of weeks ago. Also another good showing from both our gingers. Oliver was superb, so much so they got Gibbs to tag him.

All in all another disappointing season. Injuries have killed us, but equally so has our inability to adjust our game plan to new rules and losing our key forward.

Yep, and I've supported this club through them all.

I was watching the match with my American lady friend. She knows nothing about AFL. When Melbourne was well ahead she said "your team is going to win". I told her we wouldn't. In the last quarter she said "your team is going to win". As each player took a set shot she said "he'll kick this". I said "no he won't, we'll lose". Sadly I was correct.

The only upside is winning $58 betting on the Crows. I've bet against the Dees all season. Financially well ahead. (I'd rather see Melbourne win and lose the bets.) Get on Collingwood for QB. Offering juicy odds of $1.35.

Expecting better of yourself,  means you stay consistent,  without fear OR favour.   A real drought of supply of that around here for many teats that I've witnessed.

All those here,  whinging about criticisms of those,  they've put on their pedestals,  are mostly Hypocrites of the highest order....  who criticism others a the drop of a faart.

Some even had power once.  and used it to Bully others...  a far worse crime.   And most lack any real courage or starch.

hopefully he goes back and revues his set routine or is helped to. Whatever he is doing  just  didnt hold up under that intense pressure. On the screen it looked to me like he leant back and lost control. Could be he learns from it and becomes elite. As many have observed, if he kicks the goal he would topped off a good night and have been spoken of as the difference between the teams. What a difference a meter can make, to seasons and careers.

Don't usually post tables of stats in the general forums but thought this was relevant given the abominable kicking in the last quarter.  Obviously the efficiency improves the further you get towards the back half of the field and we should only be comparing like with like ie., defenders with defenders, inside mids with inside mids etc.

Forget selling this home game to DaIrwin nonsense. The crowd was clearly heavily supporting the crows. Could have sworn on the telecast it was being played in Adelaide.

Yep.

We should probably sell it directly to the Crows and let it be played at the Adelaide Oval:

1.  We have a pretty good track record against the Crows there;

2.  We wouldn't have to play in the heat and humidity and sucked our energy of the next week.

Totally disagree with this. And exactly what would you expect the leaders to do? Coach him in ball drop, how far his run up should be? No, the poor execution of that kick rests solely with Weideman. For Christ’s sake, he marked it 20 metres out and missed by a long way. I just wonder whether it is “ burning in his guts” like Max said it was in his after the game. I doubt it, because I just don’t think he wants to be a Melbourne player. Of all the players this year, I would say this guy has been the biggest disappointment.

It would make sense for that happen but judging by the shabby quality of our goalkicking this season, little attention is paid to kicking mechanics and set shot routines by our coaches. Take Petracca as an example. Five seasons in still, ludicrously, has not been taught how to modify his kicking action so that he guides the ball onto his foot from a lower height. Or if he and others are being taught then they're not listening, practicing or following instructions. I suspect it's more of the former, however.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
