I’d thoroughly recommend nobody listen to coach press conferences after a bad loss. There is literally no right thing the coach will say. Or at least, you’ll never hear whatever it is you think you want to hear.

Goodwin is still saying he sees improvement

How can he say this...?

i feel for the guy, he is delusional

i need to hear from Bartlett.

Not one word after 10 rounds. Our Season is over...

Spargo and the Wagner’s are disgraceful footballers. Spargo offers absolutely nothing. He leads up as a forward and cannot take marks because he is 4 foot. He isn’t quick and can’t crumb and he hates tackling. I would be happy to never see him play for the club again.

as for the Wagners... the less said the better. Slow. Slow thinkers. Poorly skilled. I’ll leave it at that

Spot on don’t blame them blame the recruiters. Blind Freddy could spot their deficiencies.

This is not about one loss but a litany of mistakes that will consign us to more years of misery. Who is accountable for;

1. Recruiting and trading the farm on Lever when everyone knew he had acl problem. An out and out disaster;

2. Recruiting May when the whole industry know he has discipline issues;

3. Recruiting Pruess so we can play him in the reserves every week;

4. Extending Goodwin contract for effectively 4 years after his Essendon involvement and with little demonstrated experience

5. Recruiting Kolodjashnij with known concussion;

6. Continuing to play Garlett when he wouldn’t even get a game in Hawthorn reserves

7 Recruiting players with names such as Sparrow; Jordon; Nietshke; Spargo; Petty; Baker; McKenna; Johnstone. Yet Geelong perennial winners pick Tim Kelly with 24. There more than luck about it.

8. How can we be the only club with sub standard facilities and split administration yet GC and GWS have state of the art.

i really had some hope after Roos/Jackson but it was a fraud. The place is a house of cards. You can take losing but you need some hope and joy. Even when we were seriously bad we had Flower; Jako; Farmer; Jurrah. Now it just sterile boring football. One goal for a half is unwatchable.

We recruit too many bog ordinary footballers, with a few exceptions, while happily taking other clubs NQRs.  All thiz while missing way too many good ones.

No wonder the Casey cupboard is bare.  Nothing's changed on that front in 50 years plus.

Cripes, here we go. Why on Earth do you want to hear from Bartlett?

Can someone please explain the role of Spargo today? I was there and for the life of me I couldn’t work it out. Hasn’t played for nearly a month and yet gets the late call up to replace our best player for the year possibly.

When you bring players in the team you hope they at least have some impact. C Wagner and Spargo brought nothing, they weren’t alone though.

Max led our possessions, we need to clone him.

For at least three consecutive centre bounces in the third our forward 6 were, Lockhart, Spargo, Garlett, Hunt, Stretch and Baker. Not sure if by design or due to T Mac moving back and Smith copping a knock again. Odd set up i thought at the time.

From ground level the Giants looked too explosive for us at stoppages and used the ball really well. Beaten by a much better team today.

Tell us what is really going on Goodwin...

What is he eexpected  to do or say? I can't recall such a weak list available. Thirteen out, then we learn that Salem was gone also. I predicted a ten goal loss. We've found a couple of players in Hore and Baker

He is the President of the organization that has had a shocking year. If you are not interested, cover your ears, i don’t care.

I’d suggest what Goodwin tells the media during his press conference and what he tells the players post-game is two different things. We are basically playing a VFL team, the extra pressure on our players who are usually better would be enormous.

Doesn’t explain effort for the first 3 Quarters. That is suspect far too often at this club

Good average player but seriously would not change the current disaster

I believe you missed the second half of my point. We got nothing back. Good clubs don't do that

We need the likes of Brayshaw and Petracca to be at a much higher level than they are. They are meant to be our blue chip stocks. Not our cheese and onion chip stocks.

Our midfield is Not as good as what people were Hoping/Projecting for,   last year.

Oli and Brayshaw both spray their possessions....

And Tracca is in traction,  half the time.

Jonesy is cooked and needs to be a 2nd fiddle mid.

AnB is severely limited,  as is Stretch.

Gawn is great when he's hitting his targets...  apart from Not taking enough Marks for a dominant big-man.

Harmes is the real deal and improving still.   And would be my early candidate fror a future captain of this club.

.............

If Whitfeld were to wear RednBlue that could release Salem into the midfield.?

We need to hit the Draft. Quick.

Well it’s about time that changed. Home truths.

Both our Captains are a joke

i remind you, our 2nd goal was kicked 17 minutes into the 3rd Quarter.....

If only we’d selected Preuss. ?

Wouldn’t have made a difference, but please can you explain to me why we traded  for him when we refuse to play him?

What does you actually want him to say???

Not being a smartass or anything just dont get why you want to hear from him?

Will you  be satisfied and assured if he came out and said something?

Max led virtually every statistic for us:  25 disposals, 13 contested poss, 8 marks, 6 clearances.  He played a better around the ground game than any of our on-ballers.  They should be embarrassed and that includes our two captains.  I hope Max gives them all a good talking to.  It is not acceptable to waste all that work around the ground by Max (and his 35 hitouts).

Max is the lone ranger and there is a limit to how much he can do week in and week out with very little support.  He deserves better.

And before folks say it:Preuss would have made no difference; it was the ground level players that blew this.

Absolutely pathetic, I agree. Goodwin would no doubt tell the players the home truths. No point spinning them to the media, imagine the extra negative attention those leaches would bring onto the club when already down.

Well, bugger it! It's boring to set this out but some of you need to read it. Add the  following to the team and what does it look like? Hibberd, Jetta, Salem, May, Lever, Hannan, , Vandenberg, Koladjasni , Joel Smith,

So you expect the coach to come out and back the players for all the world to see? C’mon SWYL. I know you’re frustrated, as well as I am but to suggest that is wrong. How did that serve Neeld?

No doubt that he could be giving them a serve, but that’s behind closed doors. One good thing about Goodwin is that he’s measured and composed in front of the media. But don’t grill players to the media. As soon as you do that, the players will lose respect for him. And I don’t blame them.

Well I reckon he would have made a difference - we would have had a forward in the team for one!

Unless he kicks 5 goals the result is still the same.

But I still don’t know why we went out and recruited him when we don’t actually play him? Could have use that pick to get a decent crumber or some outside run instead and gone for another baby giraffe in the draft as ruck backup.

And I remind you that at some point between the team that made the prelim last year and the kooweerup 2nds plus Max Gawn, performance drops off. Has it dropped off more than it should have taking into account the players we have out? Well that's a question every demons fan (and coach and player) has to ask themselves, for sure.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

    The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

    “Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

    The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
