It might not have been captured on film but I saw it at the ground. Goodwin claimed it was due to rotations, however Richmond set a precedent in 2016 by playing 1 or 2 players short in the last quarter of a pre season game V's Port at Etihad and the AFL community were cool and understanding of that. Why didn't we do likewise? The footy club stuffed up and need to own the mistake and ensure it doesn't happen again as Joel has wasted 50 to 75% of what was supposed to be a promising year for him. Great post. If I was Joel Smith, I'd be sounding out Hawthorn, who appear to be light years ahead dealing with complex ankles (Scully) and knees (O'Meara). We can't even get the basics right by respecting significant pain concurrent with an acute injury. Quote

It's a massive fail by many at the club. I spoke to a player a few days after that match. We went in with a squad 2 less than what we were entitled to, we then lost 2 players to injury before halftime . Consequently, this particular player (among others I assume) had to play far more game time than planned. That player has been hampered by injury this year also. Coincidence maybe but who would know.... Nobody at the club that's for sure. Amatuer hour. 4 Quote

It's worse than that. We were allowed 24 or 26 players on the day and chose to go in with 22. They could have easily had one of the extras on standby or even warm up and come on once the injuries started mounting. Pathetic managment. 2 1 Quote

The Herald Sun understands Joel Smith is frustrated by his injury but is not unhappy with the management of it by club medicos. Melbourne is aware of his father’s comments. Well well well. I was at Casey the day Joel Stayed on the park and I said to myself "This bloke is Clearly injured why is he still on the on the park"? If I was his manager and Dad I would be asking the same questions , Demanding answers and wanting Heads to roll! Clearly Clearly NOT GOOD ENOUGH but oh so typical!! I can understand Shaun venting on social media if he'd tried discussing this with the club and git nowhere but if he's done this without any dialogue with the club then it's poor form. Sounds like a dad who's frustrated that his son is out injured. 1 Quote

Wadda We Sing 10,685 Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 (edited) Shaun Smith has had a long battle with his concussion based injuries suffered during his 20 years in the AFL/VFL system. He has been long campaigning for changes and has donated brain tissue to science for research in the area. From what i understand he didnt really want his son playing AFL in the first place, but of course left the decision to him. He would be one of the first to question any perceived lack of proper management in any case of an injury to his son, and so you can see where he is coming from. Its not at all surprising to hear from him in this case. We wish Shaun all the best in his efforts to recover. Edited May 7, 2019 by Wadda We Sing 7 1 Quote
