Anderson and Rowell are apparently good mates. Wouldn't be surprise if the AFL give them 1 and 2 coz they think it will help keep them up there.

Why the hell should we even agree to this?

I will be so p$&##@! off if they get pp in the top ten at all, why should we keep taking this s*#^ from the AFL?

We shouldn't and we aren't, but they simply don't give a damn. The AFL puts even FIFA into the shade when it comes to corruption.

This is so true. Rules are made up as they go.

So true, just sick of the AFL how they keep getting away with c&@( such as this.

Were you demanding the same thing when we got picks 1 & 2 through PP system?

I too am not happy, but we seem to have very short memories

The club was responsible for shocking recruiting, I agree you cant claim GC for asking and they deserve it as much as we did. What's different is they couldnt waste those picks like we did for 10 years could they?

The AFL wouldn’t admit that being a reason. But if it is then the current administration need to step down.

All teams 'waste' picks in retrospect. No team can afford to.

At the moment, we are just as irrelevant as GCS. Difference is that they will be backed by the AFL into success (eventually).

So true. I grew up playing both AFL and ‘soccer’.

I have since decided that soccer is a much better sport to follow. Has its faults but at least can watch a game and not want to kill some due the [censored] umpires and the admin serve up.

Sorry but if we ever make a World Cup quarter final or beyond soccer will overtake AFL

As to pick 2 say goodbye but AFL will do a deal to get King to dees for pick 3. Happy with that.

When we got it, it was due to us having won less then 4 games. A pre defined / measurable amount which was in place before the season had started. Not the same in this instance, this is just being made up on the fly.

Agree, much easier to adjudicate and less grey areas. That’s what kills afl internationally, it’s too grey and people don’t get it. Cricket, soccer and basketball are clear cut and that’s why they are so successful on international scene.

AFL needs to urgently simplify the game or be at risk of dying, can start by removing ‘touched off the boot’ rule when players kick goals. If it goes through just call it a goal, no need to [censored] around with 50 slow mo cameras to still get it wrong.

It is now discretionary and we were refused PP's many times when we deserved them.

They have more top 10 picks than any club on their list and many young players ready to blossom.

We didn't have past deals where future picks traded are being affected.

Our last pick 1 was just taken from us by a new franchise run by the AFL.

Regardless, did we deserve it any more than GCS do now? No.

I'd argue the less than 5 games rule promoted tanking, which is what we did to get it.

Oops, there's that word....

Ummm...we tanked to get it...that's worse than GC who are actually trying I believe. We never deserved a PP, such is the disgrace of this club

It’s guaranteed.  Afl helping their problem child by keeping the two best mates together

Short sighted?

We were offered money and PP by AFL. How is GC any different?

MFC. 2013 - 2 wins 54%. Nil priority picks (7 years out of finals)

2014 - 4 wins. 68%. Nil priority picks. (8 years out of finals)

Suns 2018. - 4 wins. 64%   3 priority VFL picks.  Collins   Corbett   Burgess   All played in 2019  40 games between them.

2019 - 3 wins. 62%. Priority. ????

Wow - Suns were given 12 of first 18’picks in 2011 draft plus 10 priority youngsters. Plus an extra salary $$$ cap.  They have blown it. MFC got no sympathy in terms of priority picks for the 2013 and 2014 years because we had “made our own mistakes”

my eye sight is fine btw

What about when GC and BWS came into the comp? We were bent over many a barrell in 2011,12 and 13.

Jeez we're an arrogant lot aren't we.

We've been around since the dawn of footballing time and it was only 10 years ago that we received a priority pick from the AFL. What's worse? As recently as 2014 we submitted another request for one with the AFL denying it. However, we did recieve pick 2 as compensation for Frawley leaving that year. For Frawley. Let's just take a minute to think about how other clubs felt about that if we're playing this game?

The AFL bring in two more AFL clubs to expand the game and there are Melbourne supporters on here whining that the Suns might be taking precious pick two away from us. We've been around for how long and still need assistance in almost all facets. We make a prelim and are so arrogant to think it will just happen again the following year.

We are a nothing club right now and supporters whining about the AFL giving the Gold Coast assistance are completely contradictory, pig-headed and are in total denial of the state of their own club. It beggars belief.

How about we look after our own backyard you peanuts.

Steve I'm against them receiving a PP  but not because of our benefit, my view is further access to young players will do little they need older bigger bodies, C.O.L.A and no limit on FD spending to become anything resembling a football club

When people are discussing potential list changes the same names are put fwd,

JKH, Stretch, ANB, Spargo, Wagner, Omac etc.

Petracca and Hibberd seem to escape scrutiny. Hibberd turns 30 next year (last year of contract) so would be of no interest to any of the other clubs. The Suns would be chasing others in that age group but in the Luke Hodge mould.

We lack star power, when we drafted Petracca I was so excited thinking he would become a hybrid of Dangerfield and Robbie Grey. He is yet to deliver on his dominance as a junior and regularly goes missing for periods in games. I personally don’t think he’ll ever become the player we need him to. We are faced with the Watts / Hogan scenario, what have we learnt....We held Watts 1-2 years too long and got minimal return. We got rid off Hogan at exactly the right time and got May in return. Some argued we should got more and whilst this year hasn’t been great for May most were happy we were able to land him when we did. The time to move on Petracca is now, package him up with next years first round pick or trade for a mid to late first round and package that with next years first round pick and go after some real midfield class. Let’s go after Kelly, Cogniglio or Whitfield. Offer up some big money and make something happen. Another year of waiting for Petracca’s to reach his potential doesn’t cut it anymore.

When are the AFL going to tell us that gc are going to be given pp?

After they decide which PP they are giving to GWS who are clearly struggling at the moment.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
