Nascent 9,345 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Well, 2019 is proper boned. Can't believe that the draft will become more relevant than September this year. At least we'll actually have a 1st rounder to use. Draft: Matthew Rowell Noah Anderson Other top 5-10 suggestions..? Trade/FA: The dream but won't happen.... Coniglio Would also love Fiorini from sun's or Florant from swans but probably not worth speculating over. Other slightly less unrealistic options that are either out of contract or not getting a good run at it... Zac Jones Ed Langdon Lewis Taylor Matthew ling Nakia Cockatoo Shai Bolton Darcy Parish Jayden Laverde Jack Martin Brayden Sier Any half decent small forwards available? P.s. I'm not advocating that all these players would be a good fit at mfc. Was looking forward to this season for 5 months, ugh... 2 Quote
dazzledavey36 56,332 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Darcy Parish and Lewis Taylor are two interesting players. Taylor has been in the 2s all year and Parish has been dropped again. I know for a fact that had Salem been drafted earlier we would have taken Lewis Taylor at pick 9. With our other interest on Parish during his draft year i wonder whether we will chase one of these two. Taylor is probably someone we are screaming for in terms of outside run and carry. Surely these two would be far better options on a wing then Jones or Lewis. 3 Quote
whatwhat say what 23,854 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Parish is more an insider than an outsider, and Lewis Taylor is very vanilla Throw every spare cent we have at Coniglio as a free agent Get Ed Langdon as a trade for our (unexpectedly high) third rounder Draft Rowell with pick 1 Begin again Quote
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 No to Parish and Taylor. Quote
TeamPlayedFine39 8,525 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Tomlinson is a free agent this year. Versatile with excellent disposal. Would play Fritsch’s current role much better and would only cost us cap space. 1 Quote
dazzledavey36 56,332 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 I see an article on AFL.com that the saints are already linked to Jack Martin and Tomlinson. Mean while we are probably venturing out to Frankston oval scouting VFL plodders... 4 2 1 1 Quote

Elegt 872 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Matthew Rowell is the best kid in the country by a mile. Can run , is tough and has fantastic skills. Target him with pick 1 1 Quote
Watts the matter 1,235 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Tom Culter would be of interest to me, but I haven't watched him that closely and not sure of the reason he can't get a game this season. 1 Quote

So yes, go hard on Coniglio. Should we have pick 1 (shudder) then by all means draft Rowell and offer 2nd round draft pick for Ed Langdon (can't see 3rd round getting it done). 1 Quote
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Cogniglio, Langdon and Rowell..... hmmmm.... Quote
Leoncelli_36 2,264 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Rowell with pick 1 if that’s where we end up. He is ready to play AFL next year, could have played this year, and has serious pace. Pick 1 should go toward drafting this bloke 1 Quote
Little Goffy 14,963 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 A shame Alex Sexton signed up with Gold Coast, he'd be handy about now. Alright, others have already noted just how perfectly some of the big fish would suit us, like Coniglio and Tomlinson, so I'll see what might be in the bargain basement bin, since we'll probably have quite a few list spots to fill anyway... Nope. On further thought, I don't think we'll do much good with the bargain basement free agents at all. We need weapons, sharp slashing shiny blades, and I just can't see where they are available at the moment because even the 'just pretty good' ones are proving so useful as the cream on top of the well-organised cakes of the successful clubs, nobody wants to toss them out. Only thing to give hope is that these players rarely go right at the start of the draft so we can at least make a run at finding a few dangerous diamonds in the rough mid-to-late draft. 1 Quote
RalphiusMaximus 6,112 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Obviously we're going to end up with a solid first round pick. We need to grab someone with pace and skill. Having seen him against Casey I agree with Rowell if we manage to finish last. For trading and other, obviously I'd love Coniglio and/or Martin. I've said that many times and I maintain that they would both be great additions. Sadly I don't see us getting either of them. GWS will re-sign Coniglio and Martin is going to wind up a Hawk (I have no evidence to base this on, but I've seen Clarkson having a chat to Martin on the sidelines more than once during Hawks/Suns games). I'd also like to throw Tim O'Brien into the ring. We've seen what he can do when he ripped us apart last year. He's been patchy and can't force his way into the Hawks' senior side, but he runs all day and takes contested marks. We need both of those attributes. I'm betting we could get him fairly cheaply from the Hawks if he said he wanted to jump. 9 hours ago, dazzledavey36 said: Mean while we are probably venturing out to Frankston oval scouting VFL plodders... Funny you should say that. Nathan Freeman is playing for Frankston this year in the hopes of re-starting his career. He's been getting some very big numbers down there (Aside from last weekend). He's an inside mid who has a bit of pace and a very nice boot. Former top ten pick who spent time in Collingwood's system. I'd spend a rookie spot on him in a heartbeat if he manages to stay healthy through the season. Quote

Adam The God 30,730 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 I'd throw a heap of cash at Conigilo or Kelly and draft the best available in the ND. Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 (edited) Grab anyone with PACE SKILL AND A HEART draftees : Matthew Rowell, Hayden Young and Noah Anderson are my clear top 3. But I think as bad as it has started, we will finish above Kangas, Suns, Blues, Lions or Dogs. Likely 13th spot. Pick 6. Brodie Kemp, Caleb Serong or Dylan Williams are the young agile mids that have appealed for likely additions if we get a low pick around 5-7 range. Brodie Kemp will rise and rise given he is ready to go round 1 2020 type. For trade period, pace, skill and heart. 1. Ed Langdon (Freo) is most likely. MFC 2020 1st round for Langdon and Freo 2020 2nd Round. 2. Zak Jones and Swans 3rd pick 2020 for MFC 2nd round pick. 3. Tom Cutler from the Lions. Probably trade Jkh to Lions or perhaps Josh Wagner.
