Hogan was gone either last year or this year.

Tmac was our number 1 forward in 2017 while Hogan was sidelined for most of the year. He is capable of being the number one forward he is just woefully out of form/injured at the moment.

That’s 1.5m a year for 2 key defenders, they’d want to get out on the park pretty soon....

I have to say the softest performance last night was the Melbourne supporters who didn't turn up. 72k and a predominantly Richmond crowd. There should have been at least 10k more Melbourne supporters there. The crowd has an impact on players and umpires and we let the team down when we don't show up to provide the support.

We want these marquee games we have to turn up to them regardless of our form. Coll/Ess supporters always turn up to Anzac Day regardless where they are on the ladder.

We’ve always had fair weather supporters....when we were garbage between 2009-2013 some of the games I went to we were outnumbered by Adelaide or Sydney supporters at the G....there’s probably only 10-12K hardcore supporters who turn up no matter what each week...

This surely is the buy-in that was the buzz a couple of weeks ago.
I think @beelzebub was the first to suggest that maybe the players just don't rate the gameplan, and are therefore failing to carry it out as expected. Clearly Lewis doesn't like it.

My take on it all is: Goodwin implemented his plan, unsuccessfully, and was then forced to make the changes that saw the team turn it around late last year. However, over summer the coaching staff have reverted back to the original and the players, having experienced too many of the same losses, are just not liking it. That would go someway to explaining Roos suggesting they aren't playing the way Goodwin wants, and also the constant bombing it forward blindly.

the only times we looked dangerous was when we steadied up an went lateral. Squeezing down the boundary only played into Vlaustuins hands, although the tigers were good at putting pressure on that last kick into 50, making for a pretty predictable intercept. 

For mine, Viney’s bull in a china shop approach would be better if he learned how to change direction. In many ways, Trac is better than Viney at creating his own space for a deliberate but lateral move. This cost us a lot this week..

I wouldn't call last night "rubbish". We tailed off and were overrun but definitely played with intent and were in the game for 3 quarters.

Mate if you accept last night's mediocrity you're part of the problem. 2 tackles I50 for the whole game and continual bombing forward to the opoosition. Bag your fellow supporters all you want but some people prefer to spend their hard earned money and time on more valuable things. They are full time professional footballers playing like amateurs

What a load of crap. When collingwood were down and it was essendons home game, essendon supporters outnumber the majority and vice versa.

It was richmonds home game and only limited ga seats. If members wanted to reserve a nose bleed seat it cost more, why pay more when the clubs shown what they have?

Queens birthday we turned up to watch us get pumped for years.

Every club get better attendance when going well.

The player that concerned me the most, and I never thought I’d say this, was Oliver. His disposals used to be like knives, cutting  the opposition to threads. Now he’s turning it over or choosing dumb options.... looks a different player. 

I reckon this lets the club and players off a bit. We're not a bottom 4 worthy team with our midfield. We constantly break even / win the midfield battle. This group of players is not a 1-5 team. This is coaching, fitness and now a total lack of confidence.

This is clearly why they've played Melksham in the midfield over the past two games, to improve our connection between mid and fwd. He was the leading assister in the league last year and remains our best ball user. 

Unfortunately, the move hasn't paid off as much as they would have hoped, because Melksham has less time in the midfield to ensure his kicks hit targets.

Agreed, DJ. Lewis should be released from playing ASAP and used in the coaching/strategies/development role.

I never got asked what team I wanted to follow as a kid. Neither did my father or his. 

We are melbourne, no matter how painful it is. 

We haven’t yet seen what we are capable of.  Imagine if Lever and May had both been on the park, and we were able to structure up in the back half behind the ball with elite pillars?  Imagine if TMac and Weids had a bit of form forward of the ball?  Imagine if we were able to hit a target by hand and foot?

Jesse wanted out.  We made the best of that, and the deficiency we had in defence ‘appeared’ fixed when we secured May, and KK as a freebie to go with him.  We have not yet seen how this will go.  

It looks like it will take us until the Bye to get all the right pieces on the park.  I just hope that as we write off 2019 that we can use it to redefine a style of play that we can manage, and to get some cohesion into our players so that we can become ‘elite’ in 2020.  I also hope we start playing a style that will encourage the AFL to give us premium time slots and not consign us to the rubbish time slots again.
