Mid-Season Rookie Draft: Check out the full list of nominees

https://www.afc.com.au/news/2019-05-04/midseason-draft-nominees

I don't know one player from another (with a few exceptions, such as Jake Spencer) but note there's a born defender in the list by the name of Philip Backman and a player from WA called Ajang Ajang which, unfortunately for him, is also the name of a known terrorist group in the Philippines.

Good luck to them all.

Tyler Roos is also on that list

I don't know them either,  'LDvC'.

I haven't followed any under 18's,  in recent years.  So I posted this site,  in the hope some here might be familiar with some of those Kids.  And hopefully get-back some insights on them.

Actually I don't even know they're ages ?

Angus Hanrahan (Sandringham) represents good value for a young small mid sized forward.  Also good pace for future midfield wingman.  Think a young Melksham.

My money is on a slow inside mid with average footskills to complement the plethora we have already.

What about this Lowson guy lightning quick Coburg VFL forward, leading the goal kicking. Richmond, Carltank and Norf in the hunt. Sounds like something we need ....?

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx factor

??? who, or what?

Theres gotta be another Allen Jakovich type out there in the country somewhere.  We plucked him out of the SANFL at age 22.

Come on Jason Taylor, bring us an X factor showstopper who puts bums on seats.

Corey Gregson mentioned.  Small mid forward. Charlie Spargo mark 2.  Injury prone history.

Ummmmmm ... no

Ahh clearly you need to get behind our recruiting strategy.

Gregson would be a perfect fit on our long term injury list with 4 x surgeries on a troubled left foot.

Lets sign him up.

Best bet is still Corey Gault for the Dees.  Goalkicker. Physically AFL ready to go.  198 cms. Forward/ruck role.

You're kidding yourself, he's to slow to play AFL no tricks and would be well behind Pruess and Keilty.

We need

Small/Med Forward

Outside mid

HBF with run and decent disposal

Wants v Needs

I want us to be absolutely dominant,  in-between the Arcs.

We can have average keys from there,  because the dominant Mid players will hit them lace up anyway.

We've got a little way to go still,  as we do-not have  the best midfield, atmo.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
